Absolutely awful experience. I am writing this review as my wife had to leave to go pull cash, because it wasn't until after we got the check did they tell us the credit card machine wasn't working. This place was quite interesting, we were looking for a steakhouse close by reviews were good so we thought we would try it. Expecting a steakhouse like Texas Roadhouse, Coltons, Longhorns, etc. decor and vibe great western appeal. Music was like fine dining, fancy plates, etc. Food I ordered the ribeye, with shrimp and my girlfriend ordered the sirloin. I think I got New York strip instead, but even though they mixed up my steak. It was still pretty good. My girlfriends sirloin as well was very good. Staff was very nice and polite. I thought the food was great. Only reason they are not giving it 5 stars is they need some management help. They were doing a good job but it did take a awhile to get our food but seem like they was some training going on but not a lot of guidance. Bottom line I will go back again. read more

This is NOT a steak house. It's an over priced place to get a over cooked piece of rubber. We have been a few times...twice on our own, trying to make it good and a couple of times, because other chose and we couldn't get around it. The do not know how to cook a steak. The service is slow and horrible, period...no way around this. If you want a good steak in Elgin...go right across the street on 290 to M....rs....trust me! They went above and beyond! I made reservations for a large party on a Monday night. I had no idea they closed on Mondays. They opened just for us! Wow! I wanted to impress my guests and I think getting a restaurant to open just for them did it. We had excellent service and the food got five stars from all twelve guests. We ordered several bottles of wine, scotch, medallions, ribeye, filets, salmon, herb chicken, asparagus, Mac and cheese (huge hit), chocolate cake, crab cakes, beef wrapped with shrimp, and key lime pie. You can't go wrong with any item listed. We could not believe how much the bill was! We typically pay twice as much for food this good. Great value! The exterior doesn't look impressive but the food and service is outstanding. Amazing there is a restaurant like this in Elgin! It's a hidden gem! read more

We visited here,Wednesday, September 28 for my daughters birthday! We enjoyed the food very much! The crab cake appetizer was amazing, however the bacon wrapped sirloin bites were very tough and bacon was very undercooked! Our entrees were very good( chicken fried ribeye, chicken fried chicken, short ribs and a filet mignon) our meal would have been much better if our server would have been attentive or personable! She was not a happy person bordering on rude! But we had a good time being together and enjoyed the food! read more

The place is clean and nice, friendly staff. But it took 10 minutes for the waitress to come to our table to get our drinks, we order something from the bar and it took 30 minutes to get our drinks, my husband ordered t-bone medium well and it was well done, I ordered chicken fried steak, the consistency was good but it needed a little more flavor, and there was only 4 tables but everything took long time, I think they should have a manager in turn to make thing to run a little more smoothly. read more

By far the most under rated place in Elgin. The food is phenomenal. I can not believe the quality of meal for the price. It's a steal! The ambiance is wonderful and typically very quiet. It's great for a family night out or a romantic dinner for 2. I have always been pleased with Joseph's. The pork chop is amazing, as are the steaks and salmon. If there was a downside to Joseph's, it's the service is unpredictable. We have had some great servers some nights and other nights it's been a disaster. We are a family that generally laughs stuff like that off, so it doesn't take away from our experience but if you are in to places with sommeliers and a wait staff team to serve you, you may be too ritzy for Josephs....and Elgin. read more

We arrived at 7. The ambiance was nice. There was nice calming music in the background. We were promptly seated in a booth with a small loaf of warm bread and butter. It was 7:10. The waiter running the floor took our orders at about 7:30 while delivering me and me wife's first drinks.. We received our bacon wrapped sirloin medallions at 8:06. They were really good. Can't say a bad word about them. Roughly 8:15 out Main courses come. Again the flavors were really good. The ribeye was a little tough and thing cut but not bad for the price. Asparagus was really good. My wife's braised beef ribs and mashed potatoes were very good. Drinks were average. I say all that to say...... the place wasn't very busy at all. Maybe 5 tables total but the service was slow. He was always moving but almost like some tables were prioritized. To sum it up if you're looking for a place to hang out, sip on a drink( because it'll be a while before you get another) then wait a pretty good while for the main course, this is your place. If Joseph's Steakhouse were a smidgen closer to Austin, you'd have to make reservations months in advance! Start the meal with a handcrafted cocktail - my favorite was the Margartini - not too sweet! Then enjoy warm bread and bacon wrapped medallions with house dipping sauce. For the entree, the sirloin was melt in your mouth tender, and the au gratin potatoes were creamy, rich, and definitely made from scratch. Everything was tasteful and elegant. We were in town for the Sherwood Forest Faire and needed a decent meal. Faire food only goes so far. We arrived about 7pm and there were only a few people here. The atmosphere and music being played were appropriate for a steakhouse. I ordered the half pound Angus burger and the wife ordered the Braised Beef Short Ribs. The food came out in a timely manner and was hot when it got to the table. My burger could not have been better, it was juicy and all the veggies were fresh. The cook was a medium as I had requested. Flavor was good, in fact this is the best burger I have had in a very long time. The short ribs that my wife got were excellent as well. The meat just fell off the bone. Amazing food. Came on the Saturday of Mother's Day. When getting there they warned us that there was only one server, but if we could wait the food was worth it. After calling another popular restraint and being told that if we have a big party we shouldn't even come. We decided to try something new. The food was great!! I had an incredible experience with my family here and will be back at least once a month. Service was top notch, wine selection was diverse, steaks were perfectly cooked (Mac and cheese was a surprisingly great dish, too), and the overall atmosphere made me forget I was in this dump called Elgin. Delicious steaks and sides! You wouldn't believe this place was so tasty as you pull up, every day strip mall, antiques on one side and a cleaner on the other. I was pleasantly surprised when I walked in. The space is warm and fits a lot of people comfortably. Great wine and cocktail selection at their full bar. I had the filet mignon and au gratin side. Medium rare was perfectly done, and the filet is a great cut (size wise) for me. Au gratin were phenomenal! Great side. Tasted their loaded baked potato as well, and delicious with perfectly cooked bacon. It was clearly a busy night, with two large parties and only a few wait staff. We just moved to Manor and Joseph's steakhouse is the closest steakhouse to us, so we decided to give it a try. There weren't too many people in the restaurant but I felt good vibes from the front host and our waitress. Everyone was wearing masks and kept a respectful distance during our dine-in experience. The place was clean and felt comfortable. We ordered drinks, appetizer, and main entrees - my sangria and the crab cake appetizer came out quickly - I highly recommend the sangria! They provided us complimentary bread which was hot and delicious. The wait for our entree did take longer than desirable, maybe 30 minutes. But they asked us twice if we wanted more bread (we accepted the second ask), and I appreciated the waitress checking in on us while we waited for our entrees. The prices were reasonable for how full we were. My husband loved their T-bone steak. My veggie burger was good and our asparagus and green beans were surprisingly well-seasoned - it's so typical to get just steamed veggies without any seasonings. Joseph's is our go to steak house. The wait staff is young, but very kind and sweet. This is Elgin, not Austin. We always order the filet. sometimes we order two.. Medium rare. It's that good. Potatoes Au Gratin are wonderful, the bread is wonderful, the butter salad is good but a little awkward to handle, so I usually order a house salad now. Asparagus is always done to perfection, young and slender. Bread pudding is almost too rich.. but at least give it a try. It's wonderful. read more
