So I've been at Sonora twice, once for 10 days, and once for 12, both times in their level 1 Sabino…read moreunit. The staff have been helpful, listened to my problems, giving me things to write with, etc... The docs only work weekdays, aside from on-call, so if you aren't quite ready to be released on Friday you /will/ wait for Monday even if you are stable enough on Saturday. That can be a bit upsetting. The main problems with Sonora, and there are two, are as follows: 1. The food is terrible. If I nearly exit your facility with an eating disorder as a result of your food in less than two weeks, you've got a serious problem. I get that dietary choices for a large population are limited and we're trying to cut costs, but Sierra Tucson can handle this no problem (granted they have a much large budget). 2. They don't really have on-call therapists, and techs are left to do their job when they have time and aren't doing their other responsibilities, which is rarely. Most of the therapy you'll get is from talking to the other folks in the ward and swapping stories. This does work, but probably takes longer than it would with a trained therapist. Also, these are random people with their own issues, so your mileage may vary. I guess it comes down to this... would I go here again if I were in danger? Absolutely. Would I be pretty worried about #1 above... yeah. Basically you have to live off the snacks in between meals. Overall though, they're a great safe space, and Doctor Wilson is fantastic as a psychiatrist.

I would never recommend this place. EVER. I walked in…read morevoluntarily looking for help. I was never admitted, never filled out paperwork, and staff had no idea why I was there. Despite that, I remained locked in and threatened with a court-ordered involuntary stay simply because I refused a voluntary evaluation. That is not legal. Educate yourself on Arizona Title 36, Chapter 5 before you ever walk through those doors. I only wanted to leave. They forced the situation to the point that I had to call 911 to get out of the building with my partner--who they also locked in and never offered to release. Do not trust this facility. One nurse in particular caused the entire escalation. She knew nothing about my situation, so this was not about safety. It felt personal because she was told no. The volume of threats from a medical professional was disgusting, tactless, and extremely unprofessional. I immediately felt unsafe and have no doubt any actual treatment there would have been a nightmare. It felt like jail--except worse, because trust is supposed to be part of the process. I don't know how they run the facility, but my personal experience was hell. This traumatized me enough that I will never trust the mental health care system again.

I now see why ..As a business if you take someone's money, the least you can do is try to figure out what you can do to fix the problem. Or at least tell me what I have to do. This is a place that is supposed to be helping people, if you don't have the decency to be a normal human being with just a little bit of respect don't work for places like this.

On Tuesday October 19th, 2021, I went to the business AMI Behavioral Health Services around 2:45…read morePM, for a Revocation Packet to be done so I can get my Driver's Licence back. I paid the amount of $175 and it took about an hour to be done. The counselor at the end told me that the Revocation Packet would be sent to the MVD in Phoenix most likely the next day, Wednesday October 20th, 2021, as it was already 4 PM and they'd be closing soon. Yesterday, Thursday November 18th, 2021, I called the MVD to check the status on my Revocation Packet and was told the usual that nothing was showing on their system. The agent recommended that I call the business that I had it done, so I called AMI Behavioral Health Services and was told that the Revocation Packet was sent on Tuesday November 9th, 2021, exactly 3 weeks AFTER the counseling, which it should have been done much earlier than that. I feel cheated and defrauded because of how long this took. It does NOT take weeks to send a Revocation Packet to the MVD, especially when it's all digital and should have been sent within a week if anything. I feel like they've stolen my money and made me waste time into believing that the matter was taken care of when the counselor promised me how fast they'd deliver the Revocation Packet. This is completely unacceptable, and I should be receiving an apology, at best; and at least refunded half of my money when there was absolutely no reason for them to take 3 weeks to send it.
