December, 2024, we lost the neutral in our house circuit. The prior owner did his own wiring and…read morejury-rigged the neutral with an appliance plug. It melted. The owner of Ken L., Doug, came out to fix. What he did was replace the melted, jury-rigged neutral with another jury-rigged appliance plug. He did not protect the different metals touching, and he did not place the apparatus in a waterproof enclosure. Less than 365 days later, his substandard repair melted. There was a fire. Fire department came and asked me to get my electrician on-site. It was night, snowy, and the temp was 5 degrees. I left messages on both "emergency" numbers for Ken L., per the answering recording. The recording said plainly if it's an emergency, someone will return the call. In fact, I called both numbers several times, leaving frantic messages. No power, no heat, fire, etc. No one called. The next morning, I called the office number. Spoke with a receptionist who said she doesn't answer the emergency messages and would have to check into it. An hour later, I called back. She said, "we have no availability this week." I made sure it was clear: no power, no heat. She was equally clear: no availability. I said the symptoms of the failure matched those of last year, and maybe he should consider coming to check on his work. Later in the morning he called me. He explained he went back to the office last year and put a note in the files never to service this address again. Apparently, he had to work in cat poop (not the word HE used) under the house. He didn't tell us about it, did not suggest there was any sort of problem. And apparently CAT POOP is enough for this fellow to leave people without heat in the Maine winter. We could have died. From his shoddy work, his substandard repair, the fire, the cold. And he's A-OK with that. Cat poop. OR. IT JUST MIGHT BE THAT HE WAS IN HIS FEEFEES OVER THE PART WHERE WE'RE DYKES. 60-Y.O. LESBOS. Cat poop, or queers. Either way, he didn't care if we died.
