Well what can I say F Maddocks in Poynton are a respectable local and organised electrical retail…read moreoutfit. They use they website to much so about 6 months ago I took a trip to there store in the centre of Poynton, Cheshire. It's a very well presented shop with friendly staff who have a very good knowledge of products they sell, unlike most large retails stores, I don't think I have to mention any names! Anyway I was on the hunt for a water proof camera as I recently took a trip abroad and failed to capture some of the amazing sites I saw as I bought a cheap throw away camera that not only didn't work under water but failed to print out any photos above water. We were gutted. I thought if I spent a little bit of money on a professional camera with a brand name that I would never loose these memories again. The camera I bought was a Panasonic waterproof Lumix. It was amazing, I took some of the best photo and video footage under water in high definition that you can imagine. A few months later I booked another surprise holiday for Christmas for my partner and took the camera away again. Unfortunately half way through the holiday the camera stopped working. It turns out on further investigation the camera had leaked a small amount of water at no fault of mine, it was just a random happening. The staff at F Maddocks were more than helpful they made the appropriate investigations and informed me that my warranty was covered by Panasonic and not them, which initially put the fear of god up me as I thought that from past experience in dealing with a large company that this is going to take me ages to find the right telephone number and person to speak to without the necessary product knowledge required. To my surprise the two gents behind the counter offered to phone their contacts at Panasonic, and as I initially guessed even with their contacts it still took 4 or 5 phone calls and 30 minutes of informed time to get the right answer. God bless them as I would have been calling for days. They even offered to send the camera to Panasonic saving me the postage and packaging. It was still up in the air whether or not Panasonic would conclude that I had opened the camera under water or not, but the expertise of the staff pointed out to Panasonic that the camera had a water proof seal that if broke would reveal an indicator inside which would change colour if exposed to water, which had not, so the camera must have faulted due to no drop marks or indicators. Panasonic confirmed this and issued a credit note, this in turn resulted in a brand new camera, even better the staff for the same budget managed to get me the next model up, which extras like case etc. In turn I'm writing this article to thank them and recommend them to anyone who is in the area and looking for any sort of electrical items specifically TV's, home cinema systems, cameras/camcorders, dvd's, hi-fis, etc. Thanks again.

[EDIT: This was a 2 star rating, but after an unpleasant experience the morning after I revised the…read morescore.] I've never understood why so many Chinese takeaways sell fish & chips. It doesn't use the same cooking equipment, the same flavourings, or the same cooking style much at all. But loads of Chinese take-outs are also chippies, and as I've been trying every chippie I can find I thought I'd give the Lloyd Street Chippy a try. Sadly, I still don't understand why Chinese takeaways cuisine-jump, because this fish & chips was just a bit wrong at every turn. Fish & chips, as the name implies, is a simple thing with just two components. And though it is often considered a cheap vehicle for salt and vinegar (or gravy, mushy peas, or whatever), it is best with a bit of flavour and subtlety before you add your condiment of choice. Lloyd Street Chippy simply doesn't deliver either of these, replacing them with lashings of salt. There are three issues with this. Firstly, it creates a very one-dimensional and boring flavour. Secondly, it means that if you ask for it without salt it will taste of nothing at all. Finally, especially when combined with the oiliness of their food, it makes for a seriously unhealthy - and almost unpleasant - dish. And don't underestimate the amount of oil you take home with you. By the time I'd gotten from the shop to my kitchen (less than 5 minutes) my food had soaked through the polystyrene box, paper wrapping, and plastic bag it came in. I can't recall a more greasy fish and chips I've had for years. Lloyd Street Chippy does have some redeeming features, mostly value. At £4.10 and a good-sized portion of fish it is one of the most cost-effective ways to solve a chippie craving around, but even at that price I wouldn't go back again in a million years. Steer clear, and I hope their Chinese food is better.

We happened upon this place when visiting our grandparents after church on a Sunday. After staying…read moreat their house until evening, we decided to get something to eat. They told us about this Chinese takeaway around the corner. They showed us a menu and recommended the salt and pepper ribs, special chow mein and chicken fried rice. Pretty standard fare, we ordered by telephone but found out they don't deliver. But as it was only around the corner, no problem. We picked up the food and when we ate it, we were not surprised but blown away. The salt and pepper ribs were to die for, a crispy crust with a really strong pepper and chilli taste. The other meals we ordered tasted more like dishes from a Chinese restaurant than a takeaway. I actually held off reviewing until I visited this place a couple of more times, just in case everything was a fluke. I'm glad to say it wasn't, we also ended up trying the salt and pepper chicken wings, they were just as good as the ribs. If you ever visit the place, make sure you try the salt and pepper dishes. Eat them before you get home, they taste even better fresh. This place is a little hidden gem, throughly recommended.
