My so-so experience at Juan Por Dios! is likely a case of not having a referral. After an impulsive decision to take scissors into my own hands and release myself of all the length and weight and unnecessary frizz, I made a further impulsive decision to call JPD (remembering that a friend goes to the one in Malasaña) without a referral and saying, "I just need a cut". And they penciled me in for later that day.
And, well, a cut is just what I got. I'd cut my hair unevenly (duh, kitchen scissors and small bathroom mirror) and I needed to have it cleaned up but I have to admit that I was also hoping for something a little more creative, or daring even but what I wound up with was a shoulder length bob (and a strange little triangular point at the nape of my neck?). And, to be honest, I think that I got that cut because the guy at reception was also the guy who took the scissors and after a few opening comments of what he envisioned I got the impression that his repertoire might be somewhat limited. He was very, very sweet though, and he talked to me non-stop about hair and hair products. He seemed to know his stuff, you know, but the cut was un poco triste..... and for 40 Eu! I just don't think it justifies.
I'm willing to give JPD another try: I like the decor, it's cool and funky , and I'm very happy with the hair product that was recommended to me and everyone I encountered there was friendly and I know that they have many happy clients, but next time I will seek out a referral or I'll ask for a very experienced stylist. read more
