I ordered my usual pin head oat meal with the lady working there on friday 13th January, she asked me to call and collect it the following week, I then called on Friday 20th January at about 9.45 am only to find the shop closed! I waited for 5 minuites but to no avail. I called into the shop this morning, Monday 23rd January, to be told that my order hadn't arrived yet. The lady working there was very dismissive and absolutely no help at all. It really does beg the question, is this really the way to run a business? Do they want to make a profit? I know a lot of people locally and will not be recommending the service or contents in Funny Foods! I have since called the lady in the health food shop in Horbury who was most helpful and has put 3 packs to one side for me. Mandy Mee.

I remember the lady on the cheese stall, she knew everybody and everybody's kids, and gave all us kids a taste of cheese every week when our mums came for their half pound of Wensleydale. The sweet stalls, little sweet shops round the market house, tobacco shops, the pet shop and the second hand book stalls, they were all fantastic and a key part of my childhood. (Not so much the tobacco shops, perhaps - they just added to the general vintage 70s atmosphere - in more ways than one). Now they've moved the market, cut it down to size and half-way ruined it. Still, I suppose we're lucky to still have a market at all, which is why it gets a grudging two stars.

Spice Corner was his savour when selecting the mixture of mainstream and more obscure ingredients required. I don't think there is any herb or spice that the stall does not stock. The aromas that waft from the stall are fantastic, it makes me feel immediately hungry. The lady that served us was fabulous. Extremely helpful and knowledgeable about all things spicy, she guided us into finding what we needed, whilst also interjecting her own hints and tips. The prices are significantly less than the brands that rip you off in the supermarkets. So much better value, and the quality is incomparable. The stall resembles somewhere that I would like to shop, grocery shopping with personality.

There are also lot of packets of mysterious looking dried bits and bobs, bread, dates, some fruit and vegetables and dried and fresh herbs. The signage is much neater and clearer than many of the poorly signed stalls in the market and it packs a huge variety of products into a tiny shop. Prices are pretty cheap here and the staff are friendly and informative. At Spice Corner you're sure to find all the constituent parts of a good home-made curry and several new and unusual ingredients to try!
