We had made an appointment to look at a particular dog, but decided against adopting him.. Instead, we adopted a wee girl, Sandra, who was just over three months old.....We were allowed to "introduce" our German Shepherd (both a "mix" and a "rescue") to "Sandra" and the lady who was assisting us was patient and helpful to us, as the two dogs were introduced. Some folks don't seem to know that dogs may react positively or negatively when first introduced......it takes a bit of time to do it properly. We are pleased to say that In only a week, "Sandra", who is now "Jo-Jo" has adapted very well to our home and has become great friends and playmates with "Hailie", the German Shepherd. We finally lucked out and ended up with a Jindo (a rare and expensive breed) from the most unlikely of places...the Clarke County AS in Berryville. Granted, you're not likely to find a Jindo there. What you will find is a hardworking and dedicated staff, and animals that are receiving the finest of care possible (it is, AFAIK, a no-kill shelter). Unfortunately, they are operating in a cramped facility, but they make the most of it and volunteers help stem the costs. The animals there need care and a loving home and if you can give one, I highly recommend this shelter.

The two gals that work there were super accommodating and helpful both days I visited. I took our very timid beagle to see how he would respond to a potential adoptee. The gals helped with each new request: dog and cat relationship/dog and dog relationship, dog and human relationship.... We left less than 24 hours ago and already know we hit the doggy JACKPOT! She's a five-month old St. Bernard-Mastiff mix, very willing to please, is comfortable in a crate, is essentially potty-trained and quiet all night, is quickly learning to come when called, and we don't even have her on a leash in the yard as she explores. We couldn't be happier with the adoption fees and ease of process in getting her chosen and home with us. Thank you for providing this great service and another wonderful pet!

She was prompt to respond to texts. The kittens seem well cared for and socialized well with other cats and dogs. The buying process was straight forward, but she only accepted cash so we had to plan some ATM visits over a few days. We enjoyed visiting the kittens and would eat at the Apple House each time (Christina's recommendation). Luray Caverns is near by. She also gave us good recommendations on where to find pet supplies. Karma has great litterbox habits. She took to the litter robot right away. She is always in our business and follows us around. She is very playful and likes to watch animal shows on TV. She enjoys being brushed and she got along our other cat right away. We greatly appreciated the free pet insurance. Karma fell down the stairs 2 weeks after she came home and broke her hip. The insurance covered the vet fees of $8K! And it was quick - within 24 hours of submitting the claim. We've had Karma for almost 2 years now and she's been healthy and alert. I would recommend Royalist Ragdolls.

We also wanted a kitten so there would be no rejection issues bringing an adult cat into the home. We contacted Virginia Kittens and they had a 4 month old female. Communication was great, friendly, accomodating, and helpful every step of the way. The kitten has clearly been well and intelligently cared for. She is a very social cat, playful and curious, but also a reasonable energy level and safe for the home (and furniture). She loves to play, loves to be held, and seeks to be a companion. It is honestly a better family pet than I could have hoped, the best family pet I've had, and I have historically been a dog person. Additionally, I am having zero reaction to the cat. I would ordinarily immediately get itchy eyes and throat, with significant swelling around the eyes. I have had no reaction at all. Finally, the cat is absolutely gorgeous. While I was looking for family fit, personality, and health, I am astounded at how elegant and impressive looking she is. All in all, I could have have asked for a more perfect experience or family cat.

They told us that she was a super sweet and gentle dog, but she had SEVERE SEPARATION ANXIETY and she needed to "gain a few groceries". Despite serious reservations, we decided to go ahead. They told us she needed to be crate trained, but never gave us any instructions on how to do it. They never told us how to help her gain weight. After three days, we brought her back because she attacked me and my mother and proceeded to eat every sweet treat that we had in our house. She obviously had mental and physical problems, and they decided to allow us to foster (obviously hoping that we would spend the money that they didn't want to). Don't waste your time and heart.
