Nobody phones it in, and nobody treats the adult class like a light stretch session. I leave tired in a good way. My balance and focus are better. The room is clean, the tone is respectful, and people are there to train, not socialize through the whole class. If you're an adult looking for real Taekwondo in Mission Viejo, this is the school I would pick.

You get one semi private 30 minute class per week and an attend as many of the group classes as you're able to. They usually have 2 per week per age group. My son and I have been attending this particular Dojo for 2 years now. The main reason I picked…read morethis martial arts style for us is because it takes all the best moves from all the different martial arts styles and combines them into one style. As such, each move has a specific purpose for defending oneself (and attacking back if ever needed). I have done both Taekwondo and Judo in my youth, but I find this style much more preferable as all the moves are useful in terms of self-defense (for example, disarming someone with a weapon in an attack) versus just for show (breaking a board). Not that breaking a board is not cool to see, I just rather know how to disarm someone holding me hostage with a knife or a gun and then taking them out... Sensei Andrew, our main instructor, is just amazing and really good with kids. And we love the flexibility of being able to do private lessons which allows my son and I to get very deep experience within this style. They also take charter funds (charter schools) which is an awesome option for us.

Our family has been with Master Kang for years, and I can truly say he's had an incredible impact…read moreon our kids. Our 14 and 12 year-olds have trained with him for over 8 years (currently Level 5, 1st Degree Black Belts), and our 3rd child (8) has been learning from him for the past 4 years (Junior Black Belt)--basically, they've all grown up on the mats! Next in line is our 3-year-old who can't WAIT to start (I'm always holding her back from getting on the mat and joining class, lol). She's ready and SO excited. ALL of the kids, despite how many years it has been, find something new and fun to do in every class every single time. They come back HAPPY and take pride in their achievements and hard work/commitment. Master Kang teaches so much more than taekwondo. He's patient, firm when needed, and always encouraging. He's helped our kids build confidence, focus, and respect--skills that carry well beyond class. Master Kang is a life-long role model in my kids' lives and we are lucky to have him in our community. Instructor Gavin and Instructor Riley are amazing as well. They're both such strong role models who lead by example, show real dedication, and make training fun and motivating for the students. We're so grateful for everything they've poured into our kids over the years. If you're looking for a program that builds character as much as it builds skill, this is the place.

My 9 year old son…read moreearned his black belt last summer and loves tae kwon do so much he is working toward his second degree black belt now. My 5 year old son has been training with Master Kang for over a year now and will soon test for his brown belt. The way Master Kang interacts with the kids is fantastic - he knows how to be strict when necessary but also have fun. The kids don't just learn punches, kicks, and forms, but also important life lessons. We couldn't be happier and look forward to many more years with Master Kang.
