The overnight stay is exceptional for kids, being the park after it's closed at night or first thing in the morning is a really fun experience. Most of the animals are born in the park or from similar parks, they exist, and while the cages are small they are well cared for and it's all they've ever known. A certain element of the community will be outraged regardless, ignore their opinions, they offer no alternative and normally prefer their soapbox more than the cause itself. read more

Fun, hands on experience with some of the biggest cats you'll come face to face with. Behind the scenes tour to feed these big boys/gals is definitely worth the fee and was a very special experience. We got to feed the lion and the snow leopard and to finish our behind the scenes experience, we got to spend some cuddle time with the fox kits in their den. If I could give zero stars I would. I am amazed at how many high ratings this place got. I also have no idea why this place hasn't been shut down yet. The animals are not well cared for in the slightest. Their wondering donkey had tuffs and tuffs of hair all stuck together with dreads through his mane. So so dirty too. The fox was in a cage that had no grass and was all mud and dirty. they were filthy. they also had no place for shade from the sun, only this tiny little box which would get so hot if he were to go in. the spaces that were large, they had animals in them that just didnt make sense. Like a large space that was of mostly water or pond and then had a bunch of wolves... again no shade. If you are an animal lover, you wouldn't give this place money. If you are an animal lover, you would see how horrible it is here and not just care about "getting close to a lion" just because normally you wouldn't be able to and you would look at how they are looking and walking etc. So sad. I wish I took pictures but I couldn't bring myself to because I was ashamed to even be there. We got the tickets as a gift, had never been, and regretted going. This place is amazing! All of the employees are very passionate about their jobs and you can tell that they really care about the animals. Jungle Cat World is smaller than your typical zoo, but I also felt like the animals were a lot more interactive and really curious about visitors. We spend the night here and I highly highly recommend it. When you spend the night, you can enter the park anytime day or night and being able to go in at night is a unbelievable experience. So many of the animals are awake and active, and you basically have the place to yourself. Being able to listen to lions roar from your patio also cannot be beat. My boyfriend surprised me with the behind the scenes tour, which is 100% worth the money. I met a skunk, two foxes and a baby tiger cub. The keeper was very knowledgeable about all of the animals and even took pictures for me. The skunk was so cuddly! Highly recommended meeting him if you do behind the scenes, he doesn't get enough love. This place is definitely not your typical zoo experience. My experience at Jungle Cat World was absolutely amazing! First, I stayed at the Bed and Breakfast they have on sight , which provides you with free admission to the zoo and access to the zoo after hours. First, they zoo has a large variety of animals including lions, tigers, leopards, wolves, kangaroos, tortoises and a variety of lemurs and falcons. They also have peacocks, swans, bunnies, goats, donkeys, turkeys, deer and alpaca, which you can have a hands on experience with. Even better, I paid some extra money to be able to have a hands on experience with three different animals. I decided to meet the kangaroo, lemur and the baby lion. I was also able to meet the tortoise since it lived with kangaroo. Just viewing the animals is also amazing. You can get within a foot or closer with these magnificent beasts! At 1:00 PM they also have a feeding tour where the animals are feed! It is pretty cool. If you stay in their Bed and Breakfast you can also see the animals at night. One of the best things is to hike around the zoo to the roar of lions or howls of wolves. I felt as if a few of the animal's enclosures were a bit too small, but they were not tiny by any means. However, I suppose that thought could be due to the fact I am a member and frequently visit the Philadelphia Zoo, which is one of the best in the world. Anyway, this zoo is CAZA accredited and most of them seem happy. The snack shop here is somewhat small and sells popcorn, chicken, ice cream and drinks. While they do have two gift shops, there is really nothing too amazing for sale as well. Jungle Cat World also has a small playground, a lookout point, a pond and a dog training facility. Altogether, this is a great zoo where I especially loved getting to play with the turkey, Butters, as well as being able to feed the donkey and lemurs! One of the best things, though, was petting the white lion cub. read more

This was such an amazing day at the park! We booked a behind the scenes experience and Jesse was so awesome. She knew so much about the animals and was super nice and friendly. We arrived about one hour before closing time. It was a chilly day with some sleet onthe ground. First of all, there was not really any sign where the office was to check us in. When we finally made it inside the small sanctuary with our bag of pebbles to feed the herbivores, we were told that it was getting late and cold and that the alpacas needed to go back to their Staples.. there were quite a few wild animals including foxes coyotes, lion and tigers.. definitely a lot of Canadian geeses and some domesticated white geeses . ( There were Mallard ducks and swans in the pond in the middle of the park) . The biggest attraction to the zoo ( apparently 10 acres of space was the large white and black timber wolves which were spread out around the entire park ( they need a lot of space to roam around) there were three tigers and two lions in the entire place. Herds of goats and bunnies. The park didn't feel like 10 acres as advertised and we couldn't see the alpacas ( when we had already purchased feeding pebbles).for that I am minusing 2 stars. read more

Behind the Scenes tour is a package and you get to meet 3 animals and spend about 20 mins each. Cost: $90 per person. Our appointment for Behind the Scenes tour was at 12 noon today. We thought we'd come 15 mins before 12, so we got there at 11:45. It helps the staff that we have all our paperwork done and signed in advance. Though we were fully prepared to go, unfortunately the person doing the behind the scenes with us wasn't ready yet, and we'd have to wait about 10-15 more mins past our appointment schedule, but I didn't really think much of it. They may be understaffed, but I am just really excited to start the tour. So April was our guide for the Behind the Scenes Tour, we picked the Hyena, Serval Cat, and the Ring-Tailed Lemur for our package. We met Ed (Hyena) and fed him granola while April fed him raw meat. I was told by April that some customers would change their mind upon seeing the Hyena as they get scared of it's size, but really Ed is a sweetheart! Oh, and yes, he was really hungry, so I guess that was a good thing, he just focused on feeding. Next we met Murphy, the Serval cat. We sat a few feet from her cage, and she just came over and sat on the grass with us. Serval cats can be pet anywhere on their body, unlike the Hyena which is off limits on the head part. I got too close-up photos with the Serval cat, and at the end of it I was pretty much saying "I want one". Again Murphy's really sweet and adorable. Last but not the least, we got to meet the Ring-tailed lemurs, and boy oh boy they jump on you like crazy! April has handed us another bowl of granola and the whole lemur family just started climibing on to our shoulders and arms trying to grab the granola bars in the bowl! They don't really like petting, but they love being fed and climbing onto you. They climbed on my leg, desperate to get some food, they grabbed my fingers, my purse like beggars for food, and yes it was fun! I didn't notice my time's up as another couple's turn now to meet the lemurs. After we finished the Behind the Scenes tour around 1:10, we were advised that feeding time for animals is at 1:30 PM, so we grabbed something quick to eat at their small cafe. We got hotdogs (each hotdog about $4) and ate quickly before the feeding time started. I suggest to make sure to watch when they feed the animals as they also give you some background about the animals and their history and how they found them. Over-all I would say it was a good experience. I suggest really paying for the Behind the Scenes package to make the most out of your visit. Quite a bit disappointed about the cleanliness of the washroom and the cafe, as there are flies everywhere on the condiments table, but other than that, I had fun. I will come back when the cubs have been born, hoping to get another Behind the Scenes tour with the lion/tiger cubs. Oh, and chicken just enter the cafeteria to chill. Not a big deal. Tips: -Feeding tour starts at 1:30, and lasts about 40min. If you are visiting the park, you should come at this time. Basically the keeper goes to 7 of the animals and feeds them, while providing some details about each animal. It's pretty interesting; and also quite entertaining to watch some of them (particularly the lion and tiger) eagerly wait for its food. -Saw some guy get sprayed by the tiger. Didn't even know this happened. A quick google search indicated that this was urine (gross)! So don't get too close to the tiger, especially before its meal time. -Parking lot is reasonably big -There is lots and lots of duck crap on floor. So don't wear your nicest shoes This place is fairly small. I actually wouldn't recommend it, because its about an hour drive from Toronto, so there's a good chance that you will spend more time driving the round trip than you do at the venue. Still, I'm giving 3 stars because the animals do appear to be happier/ in better condition than I've seen at some zoos (eg the Los Angeles Zoo). A great zoo! It's small and only $20 admission for adults. They don't only have cats, there's also goats, chickens lemurs, wolves, etc. Get there before 1:30pm! They do the afternoon feedings and the animals are the most active. You can follow the handler while they feed the animals. If you show up after feeding time, you will see many animals in food comas. For $90, you can meet animals up close. Check their website for the animals available to up close encounters. You can get a lot closer to the animals here than you can at the Toronto Zoo. This place is great for a day trip from Toronto. The zoo is spacious and has many cute creatures running about on the loose (donkeys, deer and ducks) as well as several big cats in cages. Wolves pace and you can climb the wolf howl tower to see if they'll howl back at you. Everything feels so much more interactive here compared to other zoos I've visited. The animals here are often right in front of your face, behind a simple green chain link fence. Sea otters see you and want to play, a monkey might come up and try to kiss you, a deer even came and licked my hand. Adorable things. read more

We came here today because we love cats. We didn't know what to expect but we had an enjoyable time, despite the wet weather. We arrived at around 12pm and it was raining pretty hard. We took shelter in a covered picnic table area, that's next to the washrooms and gift shop/cafe. When the rain subsided a bit, we went outside to look at the animals. The place is quite small but you get really close to the animals and can get a really good look at them. Much better than a regular zoo. We saw tigers, lions, pumas, jaguars, leopards, bobcats, wolves, monkeys, rabbits, goats, foxes and lemurs. Then there's a lot of free roaming peacocks, chickens, geese, ducks, water fowls. We had a really good time looking at all the animals. You wouldn't spend all day here but it's good for a couple of hours. They actually have really good breeding programs here and the animals are just not for people to look at. Gave the kids a chance to look at some pretty rare big cats. They have a feeding and talk at 1.30pm everyday. It was interesting to walk around with the keeper and watch the animals eat. She was knowledgeable and gave us some info on the animals too. It costs $20 for adult admission but I purchased a Wag Jag. It was only $25 for a family of 5. Groupon has this identical offer on too. I would highly recommend a visit here. I bought a Behind the Scenes session for my husband's Christmas gift and we're so happy I did. We spent time with 2 of their kangaroos, 3 lemurs and a wolf. They were all so incredibly friendly and were more than happy to eat all the fruit from our hands. The girl who showed us the animals was so patient with us and answered all of our questions. It was obvious she had a great relationship with all of the animals. It was so wonderful that a place like this exists. All of the animals seemed happy and enjoyed the company of people. I would recommend this place a hundred times over. It may cost a bit to enter the enclosures, but it was worth every penny. read more

Lady walks a young lion around the park where peacocks, goats and donkeys are freely chilling.....then she starts to play with the lion tickling. Hung around to see the friendly and educated staff feed the cats whole chicken and explaining what they do and about these furry friends. There were also white foxes and other wild animals, its a mini zoo. The cafeteria was decent. Loved the Parrots, Cookie and Sarge specially Cookie. If there's a volunteer hanging around there, might let you carry the birds and play with them. This place also allows visitors to feed tiger cubs and other wild cubs and have a photo session for a extra cost. Great for young kids. Over night camping also available. I prefer this place over the Toronto Zoo if you are taking your kids. Since its much smaller, many farm animals and birds hanging out with the crowds for selfies. WARNING! This place houses depressed, angst ridden animals enclosed in small cages. The big cats pace back and forth just waiting for the next meal like rats waiting to be experimented on. It's the most heartbreaking thing I've ever witnessed. I'm all for preservation but not like this... these amazing mammals need much more space and freedom. All the animals were well taken care of and the staff were very helpful and friendly. At a cost of $20 pp it's relatively cheap. My boyfriend took me on a 9 hour trip from NYC to here for my birthday and let me tell you it was well worth the trip. We did the lion adventure $125 a person got to see the lion cubs, Eddie the hyena, and the lemurs. The Cubs were amazing and getting pretty big at this point, they let us pet them, and saw them eat chicken crushing through the bones, so they also wanted us to be careful of our hands. It was definitely an unbelievable experience something I had always wanted to do. I loved them and never wanted them to leave. Eddie was the sweetest thing, I would definitely recommend meeting him. We were going to meet one of the wolves but the lady said they weren't very friendly with men and advised against it. The lemurs were so fun to feed they were so adorable too! I would most definitely recommend this to any one that loves animals. Definitely worth my 9 hour trip! Afterwards we drove 2hours and stayed in Niagara. Amazing amazing experience. Also, the place had just been hit by an ice storm and even though the zoo was closed to the public they were still open for the encounters! Zoo keepers were awesome as well. As a fan of big felines I LOVED it. I have to admit my expectations were pretty low when my sister suggested we take her kids to the local zoo for the afternoon, but wow! Does this place ever packs punch. The animals are majestic, exquisite and far more active than I can remember seeing at any big time soon. Who knew that somewhere next to Peterborough, 1hr away from Toronto, there is a awesome zoo! They have lions, tigers (no bears, oh my!), leopards, wolves, more tigers, lynxes, monkeys, birds. Also goats, donkeys and llamas that wander around and you can get up close and personal with them! Admission is $15 and it's quite a good price for the amount of things you can see. Stay for the daily feeding at 1:30pm, where the zoo keeper takes you on a tour of all the big cats, and feeds them (with whole chicken and ribs, donated by Sobeys) and tells you all about them. We saw a snow leopard! What I wish I knew ahead of time that you can get a group together and have a private session with the zookeepers and time to cuddle and play with tiger, lynx, skunk, otter and another big cat (i forget) - pick 3. We saw some groups playing with the tiger cub and it was the cutest thing. It's $100 per group minimum donation, and extra $25 per person, includes the admission to the zoo. If you get 5+ people that's like $45 for some private time with animals! So much better experience with than the zoo at the same price. Apparently this was also training for the cubs to learn to like humans. They also take them to shows and schools so that they like the affection and applause. This helps when they get older and a permanent exhibition, and they actually want to hang out and see the people. It's nice they have a program like that. I will totally come back for this 'behind the scenes' one day. Great for kids! read more

For the admission price, this is certainly a deal. It's like $5-6 a person, depending on who you are, and comparing it to something like Reptilia, I'd rather come here. The enclosures are quite close to the visitor fence, so the animals can be quite close to visitors. That's exciting. It's not every day you get to stand a few feet away from a tiger, even if there is a fence between you and it. There are a number of species, big cats and otherwise, at this zoo, but they don't exhibit all the animals they claim to have on their site at once. There were a number of animals that weren't on display. Upon checking their site a second time, I noticed that although the description on the heading says that one can expect to see the following species at the zoo, it also says in the subheadings that all the invertebrates and the amphibians/reptiles are for wildlife education programs only, and those are add-ons to the regular admission price. What I found rather thrilling, despite the lack of number of species, was the variety they had for their specialty: big cats. I know snow leopards are rather endangered, and that I've been to a number of zoos in the Toronto area and otherwise, and have never seen one. For under $10, I saw one. They actually have two. It's rather cool. They have multiple feeding demonstrations. The first feeding tour involves big cats. The second, I'm not so sure. For the big cat feeding tour, one goes from enclosure to enclosure as a zoo keeper describes the big cat, then feeds them a chicken or something like that. It allows the visitors to see behavior in the cats that they might not otherwise see. The downside is that the visitors have to go from enclosure to enclosure to see the various feedings, and usually, this means a mad scramble to get to the next enclosure to ensure that one gets a good spot to view the feeding. I really do wish this zoo was larger. It has two bathroom stalls for females. I think that covers all the public washrooms for females this zoo has. I could be wrong. Perhaps I didn't see one of the public washrooms. What I do know is that the zoo only took 45 minutes to go around with four kids, and we didn't do any running. We stopped, admired, and took pictures. This is good for a half-day trip, but don't expect to want to spend the whole day here on regular admission. Ah. One more thing. Poop. There's a lot of poop. Goose poop, other animal (deer?) poop. They have a playground area with sand pits. Also goose poop. Animal poop is one of my biggest pet peeves. Yeah. That made things a tad...difficult. read more

What an awesome place to take kids and any animal lover. The Zoo is open to public until 5 pm. At 5 pm and anytime through the night your family is able to walk alone through the zoo .It was pretty cool to go out with my son in our pjs at 11 so we could so the lion roar and a lot more movement from animals who move more at night. It is basically a small apt you rent for the night. Upon arrival they give you a bottle of homemade red wine with a junglecat world label. There is a queen bedroom and a pullout couch in livingroom. The Lions Den was the room we rented and it had a balcony overlooking the zoo. Also out the bathroom window overlooked the wolfs area and the cage for a baby tiger and monkey. The monkey was a little bugger and kept teasing the baby tiger....pretty funny to watch. Definately bring scented candles (they do supply some cheap ones) because you ARE staying in a place full of animals you must expect a slight odour. I had 3 ..living room bedroom bathroom seemed to keep it at bay. For an extra $75 on top of the $250 Lions Den room rental we got to choose from over 20 baby animals to get a family pic with.....the leemer "Guido" was my fave. BUT the wolf and baby tiger were equally amazing. read more

Initially, I felt extremely confused/ashamed with myself for waking up/regaining consciousness in this place, on such a dismal day. I felt as a mighty black panthercat might, upon seeing the first snowfall in his strange new home, so far from his mighty jungle kingdom. I also was far from home, with only the fuzziest Instagram-like recollections of the previous night prowling in my pounding head. I remember sunlight shining through dust and a pint glass, the neon hum of a submarine sandwich shop, an insurance broker named Marlissa, the cramped and swaying washroom of a Go-train, the cramped and swaying laundry room of a suburban home, running through an industrial mall with a bottle of Canadian Club Rye Whiskey... and that's about it. Where is Orono, Ontario anyhow? These sullen beasts are of no help. But they are magnificent and I feel a strong kinship with them. Four stars! read more

Went here on the weekend with my boyfriend to do "Behind the Scenes" and watch the feeding tour. If you're planning on going, go on a cooler day, if it's really hot out the animals aren't as active or hungry because they're trying not to move and stay cool. I would recommend showing up at 1:30 for the feeding tour. You'll get to see all the animals and watch the keepers feeding them lunch (not for good for those with weak stomachs lol). The behind the scenes is one of the best experiences I've ever had. You can choose from 3 of their available animals to do a private meet'n'greet with a keeper's supervision. You get about 20-25 minutes with each animal. We chose the serval, the hyena Eddie, and the two foxes. The Serval, Murphy, was a lovely lady to meet. She loved being pampered and getting attention, especially chin scratches and belly rubs. Sadly she was brought up to be a regular house cat and her owner declawed her. Later she realized that a serval is not a domestic animal and she was given to Jungle Cat world. Eddy was a sweetheart and ate bananas right out of our hands. He was a little dirty from rolling around in his food, but he still rolls over and wants his belly scratched. After we fed him he was getting a little feisty. He tried to jump up on me while we were in his enclosure, but the keeper was great at calming him down and escorting us out. We weren't ever afraid of him, but he's still a wild animal, so when the keeper decides that he's jumping up too much she will ask that you step out. The foxes were the best of the three! Don't underestimate them as not being "cool enough". Todd and Rufus were my favorite to meet out of all the animals. As soon as you go into their enclosure they are all over you trying to get at food and check you out. Once the food was gone we were allowed to try and groom them by helping get rid of their winter coats. It was adorable, they tried to groom us as we were grooming them! I'd advise you to wear jeans, possibly a sweatshirt depending on what animals you see, and running shoes. You will get dirty, you will be on your hands and knees, you will be crawled on, sniffed and chewed on. 10/10 would go again!!! read more

I must admit after reading the reviews I was very exited about this park but right now I am extremely disappointed at this .. The entrance fee is 15 $ , the park itself is very small .. There were hardly any roads , due to the melting snow it was very difficult to walk and soon our shoes were filled with mud and got wet .. There is nothing much in the park , you can cover it in an hour and a half max .. Worse still there was nobody around in the park apart from the lady at the counter .. All in all a pretty bad experience .. I found it too expensive and poorly maintained .. read more

Wow! both places are great. Now, I seem to be making regular trips to Orono from Toronto. The lions, tigers, donkeys, peacocks, monkeys, foxes, wolves, goats -- its upfront and an overall amazing experience. I had come to Jungle Cat World as a birthday present. I had told my boyfriend for my birhtday I really wanted to pet a tiger. Being the great boyfriend that he is, he found Jungle Cat World. We went and did the behind the scenes adventure, and it was unbelievable (way more than i asked for!!). When we got there we were told that we could choose 3 baby animals to play with. We had picked the linx kittens, arctic wolf pups, and adorable Dimitri the Siberian Tiger. All the animals were super fun to play with and very interactive. Our guide was very nice and informative, explaining interesting facts about all 3 animals. It was so much fun!! We well definately be back!!
