Juniper on Main is a hidden gem in Carmel for those seeking authentic cuisine that is generally found many miles away from here! Easy to reserve a table on line, free parking, bright and comfortable inside and outside seating (with heaters to take off the chill). They have a great menu that will entice lovers of southern fare. We had apps of fried green tomatoes and a flight of deviled eggs. We followed up the Charleston style shrimp and grits and their Low Country Boil. Large portions and decent prices for all that we ordered! Beer and wine is available as well as soft drinks. We were a few minutes late for our reservation but called to let them know. They graciously held our table! Deyan was our server. He was very knowledgeable about their menu and offered great recommendations! All and all, a great experience. Highly recommended. Cute space outside! Perfect for patio dining. Parking is difficult with a small lot and busy side streets, but manageable. I had the Sea Island Platter with chicken which was delicious. I really enjoyed the plantains. The rice was a little dry, but good together with the rest of it. I got a side of grits and found them too dry as well. Good flavor though! I was headed to Indianapolis for an event and scouted some spots on the northeast side for lunch. Juniper on Main was the winner. Nice, clean atmosphere. Only note here is that tables are close together, so you will hear every word of your neighbor's conversation. Since I was dining solo, I chose the cornbread appetizer because the leftovers would survive the rest of the day in my car. Good choice. It was enough cornbread for eight people! The BLT with a fried egg was an excellent twist. Sweet potato fries are top notch. Service was quick. I didn't have to ask for a refill or a box for the cornbread. The ambiance of this restaurant is great but we ended up on the outside corner of it, right near the benches of people waiting which really lacks the same ambience but regardless the food was delicious! The sangria we got was also so yummy. It was definitely costly for me and my husband to eat but that's the price you pay for great food nowadays anywhere you go. Went here to try it out during devour! The patio was first come first serve and they're super dog friendly! We started with the watermelon caprese appetizer! I unfortunately didn't get a photo. But it was so good! The watermelon was so refreshing! We both then got the blackened tilapia with guacamole. It really reminded me of sitting along the coast on a nice day. The rice and beans and other side items resting beneath the tilapia just added the freshness alongside the fish. The flavor was full yet light. Big fan. For dessert my friend got the vegan brownie which she loved. I got the seasonal specialty cake. It turned out to be a blueberry cake! Perfect for summer! The frosting was lemony? I'm not a huge fan of frosting, but it was good. Sitting outside was super nice! I love how much the staff seemed to love the pups! The southern coastal vibes in the Midwest were there! We went for brunch on Saturday late morning. Reservations weren't needed as there wasn't a crowd yet. We chose to take advantage of the good weather and sit out on the patio. The moderately priced menu items reflect its advertisement of being a Midwest restaurant with "southern charm". We ordered the blacken tilipa sandwich and the fig salad. The fig salad was huge and the greens were fresh. It also included fresh berries, nuts, dried cranberries and other items. The best part were the 2 goat cheese honey fritters. Outstanding and unique. My least favorite item was the cubed sweet tea brined chicken. It was rather bland. Roasted chicken pieces would have been way better IMHO. Another thing, the rosemary fig balsamic dressing was the BEST. That's a recipe made to impress. Ole Boy said his sandwich was really good and that's contrary to his usual "it's ok" response when asked how a dish he orders is. There is parking beside Juniper and on street. We left enchanted with this place! They nailed Southern Coastal Fare concept. I tried the Forsyth Fig Salad which was huge and very filling. The fritters are filled with herbed goat cheese which are lovely and rich. Almost a dessert by themselves! My husband had the Sea Island Platter with pulled pork which reminded him of another dish he loves dearly. We each got a dessert. The key lime stacker cake was light, moist, and tasty! The lemon blueberry cake was chilled and had lemon cream cheese frosting. Good but on the dense side. Service was great from Karen and the owner stopped by to ask how our meal was. I've been going to Juniper on Main on an occasional basis since they opened a few years ago, but my latest visit a few days ago really impressed me. I had a shrimp pasta dish, and it was fantastic. We sat outside on a 'perfect weather' summer day, and the outdoor seating area didn't disappoint. Usually when I sit outside at most restaurants, the overall level of service seems to be only a fraction of what it would be inside, but not here. This is such a cute spot to eat! And the food was fantastic! My husband had the most delicious meatloaf ever, so much so we had to ask how to make it so that we can try to duplicate it at home! I finally visited Juniper on Main, and I'm impressed! My coworkers and I went out to lunch on a weekday and required seating for 10 of us. A tall order with no reservations! The Juniper staff accommodated us at two tables next to each other to make it easier on the two servers. Speaking of the servers, they were incredible. The young men were so attentive to our tables and gave menu recommendations to those of us that were new patrons. We shared the cornbread platter which is a must -- the warm cornbread topped with butter and pimento cheese is as delicious as it sounds. I ordered the Cobb salad and WOW - I had enough leftovers for my dinner. All the portions are large, so be prepared for a lot of food. It was honestly one of the best salads I've had, complete with sweet tea brined grilled chicken, homemade buttermilk ranch dressing and a delightful deviled egg. The service was subpar. They can't blame it on the lack of staff as there were numerous servers and not many customers on a Tuesday night (there was only one group of diners inside and about a half dozen in the patio). Our server just wasn't very good. He missed my wife's drink order the first time around and during dinner he only stopped by once to check on us (he didn't bring any of our food out as there was dedicated staff for that task). My wife and I decided to try a bunch of small items rather than order entrees as we love the lowcountry cuisine of Charleston/Savannah and wanted to try as much as we could. Food was just OK. The crab stew was actually quite good. And it really is a stew rather than a soup - thick and creamy. The island rice was a huge disappointment. It was just white rice (I'm not even sure they used Carolina Gold) with canned black beans and coconut with a side of fried plantains - cloyingly sweet. The crab cakes were quite dry - possibly due to the fact that they were overcooked and almost black on one side. The cornbread was huge (about 10 x 3 x 4 in.), but also dry. It came with a couple tiny balls of spread (1 pimento cheese, 1 sweet butter) to moisten it up, but that's it. Which brings me to the next issue - price. We asked for more pimento cheese when our server finally came by, but he informed us that they charge extra for that. In fact the whole meal was just overpriced. I have been to Juniper on Main before and ordered the chicken tender with hot honey and they were amazing. This time around, we made a reservation to celebrate a graduation. We had originally reserved for 1:30 but called to see if they could move our reservation up and they were definitely willing to do that! We got the corn bread basket to share and it was really good. The butter was a little difficult to spread on the cornbread because the cornbread would crumble but the taste was really good. I ordered the Coca Cola grilled chicken sandwich and it was delicious. I'm not really sure what coca cola grilled chicken entails but it was really good. I really like the location of the restaurant and the outdoor seating is great especially on a sunny day! read more

My friend and I snagged a reservation spot here for a Thursday evening. I do recommend a reservation, Juniper on Main is a lovely spot but it is small. The weather was nice so we got to enjoy the patio during our meal! Our waitress was nice and tentative throughout the meal. As you can see from the photos, portion sizes are very generous and this was all more than enough for my husband and I. They have the cutest outdoor space as well. The corn bread was very good, although I didn't care for the pimento cheese spread it came with, I much preferred the sweet butter. But I'm sure that's personal preference. The fried green tomatoes and the lemon aioli was a perfect match! The crab cakes I think were my favorite such good flavor, and The plantains at the end was a perfect little sweet treat. The deviled eggs were disappointing and a bit sloppy. My friend and I went for dinner--and it was so hard to figure what to order! Everything sounded good. I ended up getting the bone in pork chop with green beans and mashed potatoes with gravy. I was surprised how well seasoned everything was, there was no salt and pepper at the table but it wasn't necessary to grab. My friend got one of the popular salads and thought it was great. Large portions, very filling, friendly staff. The indoors isn't super big, so it can get a bit crowded. Their patio looks very nice for warm days. I would def recommend coming and trying out the food--I will be back. Also tried the lemon blueberry cake for dessert--oh muh gawd amazing!
