I decided to look online for a place to take them away and ran across Junk king. I called and and their initial quote was too high and I said "never mind, I figured around $50". the receptionist said "hold on while I make a call". She came back and dropped the charge and I made the appt. I came home early and then received a call that they were here. Apparently if they aren't actively making a run at a particular time, the guys aren't being paid which I thought was BS. But the guys took my stuff and were quote pleasant and even took a bit more than was expected (I figure since it's recyclable, once they're there, they wan't anything that they can make money from. They were quite professional and personable and the interaction is was quite nice. I do recommend them but it is possible to dicker with the price. read more

Mickey and Dom did a fantastic job. We had a moved-out apartment filled with... well, junk. From furniture, unassembled shelves, boxed stuff, to loose books and electronics, loose weights, and actual trash. It was about 3/4 of their truck in all. 30 minutes! Cheaper than 1800 got junk quoted by over a hundred dollars! It was faster than fast, they arrived on time, full of smiles and jokes. But I still wanted to leave them a 5 star review, because of the prompt and exceptionally good customer service. I was able to get to someone on the phone in less than a minute on a weekend, had someone commit to coming over and giving a free estimate in an hour, and actually had someone come by in 30 minutes. I came across the Junk King from a valpak coupon I received through email. I checked out their website and saw that they haul construction debris. After checking out the pricing section of their website I decided to purchase the valpak coupon and schedule an appointment. I scheduled between 10am-12pm for my appointment so I can sleep in since I work nights. They called me around 8am asking if they can come early since they were ahead of schedule. I said sure and rolled out of bed. The two guys working didn't even know the valpak coupon existed for their location. They told me it was only good for SF locations, but I assured them it was only for the Newark location as it said on the paper. They then told me they couldn't accept the coupon for the bricks because they charge by weight. Directly copied from the Junk King website - http://www.junk-king.com/help/junk-hauling-pricing.aspx "We charge by the amount of space your items take up in the truck and not by the amount of time it takes us to remove your clutter and unwanted items." No where there does it say anything about weight. Nor does it say anywhere else on the website. False advertisement and a waste of my time. read more

I made an appointment with them and they gave me a window of time they would come. They stated they would call 20-30 min before. Instead, they called my contact at the site an hour before - when they were at lunch. Instead of simply calling back several more times within the promised window of time appointed or even simply calling me (they had my number as I was the one purchasing the service), they told me they sent a truck early anyway when of course nobody was there. The individual I spoke with told me they had "issues with the truck" thus they wanted to change my appointment... In short, what a mess. Having used 1800JUNK at least 4 times, I have never had such a poor experience re junk removal. Also, just communicating with the intake phone people seemed cumbersome - they just didn't seem tht sharp. I had purchased a Groupon for their service. I returned/requested a refund. read more

We are a business that is having a grand reopening and also just finished a remodel. We have our corporate head honchos coming to do a walk through tomorrow. We absolutely MUST have the trash gone!! Called these guys at Junk King around 11 am-ish. They said sure, and set our time window from 2 to 4 pm. Whoops #1-They called me a few hours later to say they were running behind and might not make it until an hour or so after our window. At 3:30 or 4. I told him my window WAS 2 to 4?? and he said he had 2-3 pm. Whoops #2 The last whoops was calling me at 3:30 to say they can't make it today. Then they want to tell me they will be here in the AM for sure. Yeah, right...At this point, I really really need it done, and I can't trust this company to actually show up. Great experience. Had an on-site estimate done a few weeks ago, and booked an appointment on-line. I had a few changes since they were here, so they needed to recheck what I wanted to get rid of. Don and Junior showed up on time, looked at my 'junk', gave me an estimate and Voila! My stuff was in their truck and they were on their way to the next job. Very nice experience. Used these guys today to haul away some construction material after I remodeled a built in closet. They make it easy to setup the appointment online (did it the night before my appt) and they followed up twice on the day of service to let me know where they were at timing wise - a very nice gesture so I am not waiting around twiddling my thumbs. Had a bunch of old stuff that I needed to get out of my mom's house and called around to get some quotes, talked to Paul at Junk King and he was very professional on the phone and gave me a great quote according to the list of stuff that I told him (they go by the truck, 1/4, 1/2, etc.). Scheduled a time with him the next day and they were there on time, clean cut and professional. Took all of the stuff out quickly and efficently without scratching the walls (very narrow stairs and hallway). I was very pleased with the speed in which Junk King responded to my inquiry. They came to the house within two days (as opposed to twelve days for charity pickup). They will take both items that can be donated and items for the dump or recycle. I had two big pickup loads of junk piled in my garage, and it was gone within 20 minutes. I didn't want to haul the stuff to the dump or the Salvation Army myself. I didn't have time or the vehicle. They were worth the expense which I found to be quite reasonable. read more

I generally don't write yelp reviews - with the exception of when a business does something extraordinary. In this case I'm writing about a horrible experience - if I could give Junk King no stars, I would. I needed to have an entertainment center hauled away from my house. After doing considerable research, I found Junk King on yelp and they seemed perfect. My dealings with the call center who did the scheduling was professional and efficient - I told them the size and the approximate weight and that they would need experienced furniture movers with a blanket and straps. They gave me a quote and we scheduled it for the next day. I stayed home from work and when the Junk King hauler came - he said he didn't know what he was supposed to pick up, the guy he was with wasn't very strong, and couldn't take it. When he called his boss, he said they couldn't send a truck with the proper equipment until the next day. I protested a bit having stayed home from work and called the call center back. Angel answered, apologized appropriately, tried to schedule it for that day but was unable to. I agreed to stay home in the morning the next day, and it was scheduled for first thing in the 8-10am slot. He said he'd be available at the call center if there was an issue. When no one called or showed up by 9:15, I called the call center and spoke with Jose (as Angel wasn't scheduled to work. A bit strange as he specifically said he'd be there.) Jose indicated my pickup was scheduled and said he would have the driver call me with an ETA. A few minutes later, a gentleman saying he was the "owner of the whole company" called and said they wouldn't be able to "service my needs" and perfunctorily apologized. When I asked him why, he didn't reply. When I told him that I'd stayed home from work on two different days, he again apologized perfunctorily. If this gentleman is in fact the owner of Junk King, this is a very poorly run company and I highly recommend NOT using their services as a way of signaling to them that this kind of service is unacceptable. read more

Internet booking was seamless. I had a 12 - 2 window for a small load. On hauling day, I received a voice mail that they would be coming for my 1 - 2 appointment. I called back to confirm. At 4PM, they hadn't arrived. I sent a text and was told that they would come the next morning. I called the corporate number and they connected me with the franchise holder. The franchisee told me that the crew was not going to come because the crew is in a "foul mood." My mood is much more foul. read more

Got a call from Ron at 7am to coordinate schedules with his crew and see how much junk I had. Super friendly easy to talk to. They were running behind schedule but did call me to keep me informed. I was surprised that it only took two guys to move the piano. And, unlike 1-800-GOTJUNK, they didn't try to pressure me purchase service I didn't need ...NOR did they charge me an excessive rate. In fact, for $89, I was able to haul get rid of a bed 2 sets of shelves, a push-lawnmower, assorted pieces of wood an obscenely large (and useless) lawn chair and some other things.
