Located in flushing within a mall, this might have been one of the top restaurants in NYC that I have been to, and am looking forward to coming again. There was a long wait as we put our names down for a party of four, but there is a lot to do in the mall as you wait. Our party of four was able to get seated on a Sunday afternoon after about 30 mins or so. The indoors is very well decorated and it has a nice dimly lit atmosphere. Something this place does do really well is the plating and presentation. Our first appetizer were these shrimp balls and they served 9 items on this really stunning tree holder. We ordered pork, some boiled bok choi, and Peking duck. I think in NYC this was the best Peking duck experiences I have had. They provided a large variety of toppings more than just the basic green onions. They ask if you want the bones boiled or fried afterwards. They provide a large amount of wraps for you to enjoy, and the duck was prepared beautifully. Now this place does get pricey but my friends and I loved our visit. They show you how to make each roll, they provide plastic gloves are you prep the duck rolls. Will definitely plan to come back, every thing we ate was fantastic and we had a great time. I'm not a big fan of duck at all but my husband and family are so we gave this a go. We ordered the 5 dishes, one of which was the Peking duck and another the lion's head (huge meatball). Not a fan of the duck but my grandma and husband were. They do show you their neat trick on wrapping the duck so that's pretty cool. Also took the remaining duck to be fried with salt and pepper (you have other options like soup..) but that was too salty for us. Really enjoyed the clams and veggie dish as well! We brought my toddler and they gave her steamed egg which was really nice! Overall top notch service and good food! First time at Juqi - I've seen their location in Manhattan and was always curious about it. Although, when looking it up I do remember always thinking "whoa, it's kinda pricey..." Well, I know why now AND I can tell you I would still come again. First - the place is very traditional Chinese style and very spacious inside. We were seated quick and didn't need a reservation or anything as TBH bf and I came to Flushing to get Dim sum...to find out that our dim sum spot is GONE!! (this is another story) Anyways - there's a digital menu so you can browse and also see straight up how much everything would cost. The staff are also very helpful if you need any assistance esp if you don't speak or read Chinese. Anyways - Juqi is known for their peking duck so we ordered the half duck set. Which also with the leftover pieces or bones (or something) they will ask if you want to fry them or make into a soup. We choose fried (well I would preferred the soup but..haha next time), seafood fried rice, soy sauce chicken, Chinese vegetable and beef with green peppers. All the food came out pretty quick! The duck came out and the server showed us how to properly wrap it up to eat. The duck was tender and skin was soo crispy. It wasn't heavy at all. The soy sauce chicken was properly seasoned and it came with a sweet chili sauce and a ginger oil sauce, both was great. But not needed but that's also preference. The beef and green peppers were so well balanced and beef was soo tender and soft, not dry over overcooked at all. The Chinese vegetable was very simple but crispy (not overly cooked) and the portion was bigger than I thought. Lastly and my favorite dish was the seafood fried rice. It doesn't looked seasoned and even plain but the taste is very clean, simple and elegant . Meaning it's fried rice but it's not greasy from the usual. The taste held well over the next 3 days (leftovers) and I can say that it still tasted as good as the day we ordered it. We had leftovers and I was able to enjoy them for lunch on a work day!!! Win! So yeah it might seem pricey for the food but I think it's worth it. It's the quality of the food and it's deff there. This hot spot, located on the first floor of Tangram Mall, is bustling with crowds on the weekends. They do not take reservations unless you want to book the private rooms or The Birdcage. There is a minimum spend to be in each room so choose wisely. The room we were seated in had a minimum spend of $500. Before you confirm your order, a staff member needs to come by and re-confirm your order, especially to ensure you spent the minimum. There were some very unique dishes and curiosity got the better of us - a few were hit or miss. The misses: hot mustard with cabbage, it was a spicy mustard (like wasabi kind of dry heat, where the heat clears your sinuses). And there was way too much mustard in general, on top. The other dish that was almost a miss, the plum cherry tomatoes. The tomatoes were sweet but skin was still on so the plum brine doesn't absorb too much into the tomato. This is an overall refreshing dish for the summer months since it's served cold. The hits: that full portion of Peking duck served in a fancy presentation like a jewelry trunk with drawers. Each compartment or drawer held a treasure to speak. The cut up duck meat, super moist, the garnish of julienned cucumbers and scallions, the delicious sauce and the fabulous crispy duck skin served over toast and topped with caviar. It was a sight indeed. Beautiful presentation. I also enjoyed the King Crab, this 4 pound beauty was cooked and served two ways. First, steamed crab meat legs with steamed eggs on a large plate. The second method was a stir-fry of more cut crab pieces. Well seasoned and tasted like a mixture of Old Bay seasoning and spices. The other favorite of the night was the pork meatball. While only one serving ordered, we managed to break it up with a spoon and everyone got to try it. The other stand out dish was the brisket and beef tendon. Very saucy and tender. I would have wanted to try their fish dishes but all were spicy or marked with a red pepper icon. Since it's a Beijing style menu, I would presume too spicy for my taste. The coolest feature of being in the private room, the motorized lazy Susan and of course, having privacy. We ordered the whole peking duck, lamb, duck dumplings, fried rice, jajianmein (pretty good and thankfully my kids could eat bc the pines nuts came separately so we didn't add in) , tofu pork and intestines stew (this was the favorite). They gave us broad beans, fried wontons and seaweed for apps. When I asked for seconds they brought another over. I ordered myself a lychee drink. Service wasn't the greatest. Even though there wasn't enough room they were a bit brusque and rude imho bringing things and moving things on our table. Even when heading to the restroom the rest of the wait staff were not pleasant and didn't move while standing in the narrow walkway to the restrooms. Was greeted with a friendly server - Yoko, who ended up making us appreciate our experience with his down to earth service and personality. Soft spoken with a hint of fun levity. Our order consisted of half a Peking duck, cauliflower, and black fried rice that was set a blazed for a fiery cool effect. The unexpected was further experienced when the remaining part of the duck that wasn't used in our initial order (with pancakes) was used and put in a soup. The soup was great because it was overly salty and served with tofu. Place is decorated in modern antique theme of a Beijing opera house. They had Chinese opera playing softly in the background. For me, I stop by every once in a while because it is worth the splurge for me. Another reason why I come to Juqi is the beautiful decor, especially their private rooms and the semi-private bird cage table. My family has celebrated a couple special occasions here, and they all loved the environment. Unfortunately, that's where my praises for this restaurant ends. First of all, everything is too expensive. Check the local Dongbei restaurants in Flushing and most of them charge 20-40% less for the same dishes. More importantly, it's not any better in quality or taste. Some of the dishes look fancier, especially the desserts, and that's what you are paying for. I came here this afternoon for a solo lunch and left thoroughly impressed. I ordered half a Peking duck, braised wheat gluten with shrimp, and XO sauce seafood fried rice--definitely more than enough for one person! Every dish was beautifully executed and full of flavor. Food was beautifully presented and definitely very good but we quickly ran out of room due to the size of the serving dishes and kept on consolidating other dishes on our table to make more room. It may have also been us over ordering but pacing would have helped so we as the diners don't feel rushed. If you are going with a party of 4, it may be wise to ask for a table that seats 6 so this doesn't happen to you. Out of all the dishes we tried, the seafood vermicelli, fried prawns, and crispy shrimp balls were the highlights. The Peking Duck was fine, didn't stand out as much as the other items. One of the best pecking duck places I've tried so far. They display the pecking duck in the wooden box and show you how to wrap your pecking duck with the other ingredients nicely. They also provide gloves so you don't dirty your hands. The leftover bones from the duck can be turned into one of three choices: 1) stir fry 2) salt and pepper 3) soup. I haven't tried option 1 and 2 yet but #3 is sooo good, especially at the end of your meal. Aside from the pecking duck, which is what they're known for, all dishes were yummy. and I would highly recommend coming here to try. read more

We tried to get into this restaurant for two days in a row and finally got in. It's a big hype for sure. We ordered an array of dishes to try as a family and it was all very mediocre. It did not amaze me for what the hype is. The duck was very crispy, but bland. Everything here is about presentation. For the duck- it came out whole and a chef cut it up in front of us and played it on a box. They deep rid some of the skin and put caviar on top and served. Flaming fried rice- it was purple rice- pretty bland. Nothing special but the flames. All the other dishes were also bland and everything tasted like szechuan peppers. Ambiance- very cute and Asian inspired esthetics. Customer service, was always there when we needed them because we were place right next to their service table where they stand. Came here specifically for the Peking duck and it did not disappoint. Service, food, and ambiance were all on point. I really liked that they served the duck with spring roll wrappers. It me of the old Elaine's in Great Neck (RIP). I usually go for the Man Tou style elsewhere, so this was a nice change. One surprise standout was the eggplant. It was fried perfectly. It was crispy on the outside yet creamy on the inside and somehow not greasy at all, which is impressive since eggplant usually soaks up oil like a sponge. They also made a rich broth from the duck bones at the end of the meal, which was incredibly flavorful and felt like a great way to finish. We came here on a Saturday night with a group of 4 after the US Open and waited about an hour for our table. We shared everything and got to try quite a bit of the menu. Of course we got the Peking duck with caviar which was carved table-side and beautifully plated in a wooden box like the true treasure it is. Short wait on a Sunday evening, but I saw that it could get longer with the amount of people on the waitlist after us. Ultimately opted for this place to try the Peking duck. Almost every table I saw ordered it as well, whether it was the half size or the full duck. A waiter comes by and shows you how to put it together with the hoisin sauce and the toppings. You get a plastic glove and make it yourself following their model. The rest of the duck, we used for the soup, which was also delicious. The duck comes in thin slices, easy to roll up, and the skin is very crispy. We ordered a few more things from the menu, including the taste of Beijing appetizers, pork, and vegetables. The taste of Beijing dish was interesting. I was not huge on the mustardy Chinese cabbage, as it was very heavy in a flavor similar to mustard and wasabi? Two things that I don't really like nor like to mix together. There's some strawberry jelly (dessert?) that's shaped like a squid which was sweet, but not too sweet. Okra and garlic sauce, that was neat. I forgot to try the sauce though. The last one was roast beef? There were a lot of slices and easy to share. The menu on the iPad is very visually appealing with English and Chinese. There are pictures for almost every dish (unfortunately no English for the main subtitles like appetizers, main dishes) so we found it a little hard to navigate. I found myself at Juqi with my colleagues for a work lunch. I typically do not go out to eat for lunch while working, but this was a special occasion which called for something outside the norm. I went into this totally blind as I'm not familiar with the food scene in Flushing, so I was excited to try a spot that was new to me. Juqi is located inside the Tangram Mall in Downtown Flushing; what struck me about this place from the start is that there are about 20 or so Juqis in Beijing and this was their first one here in the US. As it was a weekday afternoon, the restaurant was not too crowded and we were seated right away. The decor of the restaurant was quite nice - ornate without being tacky or overwhelming. The menu consisted of a variety of dishes which we decided to share. The menu was also electronic, so we browsed and made selections on the screen which made it super easy. As soon as we were seated, we were started with some bites - chicken feet, mung beans, and some crispy roll thing I didn't catch the name of. I did not partake in the feet, but the other two were tasty and good starters. For our actual lunch, we ordered several dishes - a lamb stir-fry, peking duck, sweet and sour fish, seafood fried rice, cauliflower, and black rice. Everything was really good - the duck was carved tableside and served so that we could build our own buns with sides of veg and sauce. They also took some of the skin and made bites topped with caviar. I'm not really a duck person, but this was some of the best I've had. Other standouts for me were the lamb stir-fry and the seafood fried rice. The black rice was almost sticky in consistency, and served flambé, but lacked flavor IMO. Service was good, the staff consistently made sure we we were taken care of and food came out relatively quickly (good since we were crunched for time). We were expecting more given friend recommendations and input from the NY Times but felt that the duck was solid, but nothing noteworthy. Where they win points is their prompt service, attention to detail and aesthetic presentation and interior. Our soup was cooked perfectly and was a nice complement to an otherwise salty meal. When ordering a duck (even the 1/2) they let you pick how you like your second piece of it (you can choose either soup or salt/pepper). In hindsight we wished we went with the soup as the salt/pepper was so salty I couldn't finish. Our vegetables were also quite good and their snack items were also solid too. Cool atmosphere, first floor in the Tangram mall, cool design on the inside evoking some traditional Mao-era design and maybe a little older brick and bamboo designs. Check out the cooler at the front with the ducks. Digital menu, and waitlist grows quickly (no reservations on weekends). Make sure your whole party is there, or they'll skip you. Wifi is required as phone service is weak. Duck was overly crispy, dry, and the toast points with duck and caviar was overkill... caviar had more taste than the duck. The sauce was off, and while the show is interesting (cutting the duck, display, and the flaming fried rice), the food taste disappointed. Very thin wraps, though, that was a very nice touch, split by the paper separators. The duck bones salted and fried was probably the best part of the meal. Fried tofu was tasteless, needed some kind of sauce (not the mayo they supplied) to make it better. Limited cucumber and scallion that they provided with the duck (didn't have to pay for it separately, fortunately). Go for the show, but don't expect great food. For $100, I've had much better, cheaper, Peking duck elsewhere in Flushing and Chinatown and other dishes. Service a bit spotty as they were busy. read more

The lucky bags is probably the thing I liked the most here. Duck was a little too fat in my opinion. The ambiance and food presentation was top notch. This is located in a mall at Flushing and the entrance was hard to find. Google maps showed us that it was inside the mall but we had to go to the ground floor to find the entrance. The ambiance is great. It transports you to Beijing with decor that looks like the Great Wall of China. Their plating was also aesthetic as you can see with their rabbit mashed potatoes. Located in Tangram mall, this Chinese restaurant is known for their peking duck and fun presentations of traditional Chinese dishes. The inside has lots of seating for parties of different sizes, and the location makes it a great spot to grab a bite before or after visiting the mall. Service is quick here and good. We ordered the sizzling cumin lamb, half a peking duck, and their Chinese broccoli. Each dish was delicious. The lamb wasn't gamey at all and the cumin and other seasonings paired so well with the meat. The presentation of the peking duck was great, and they cut up the duck right in front of you if you get the whole duck. The dish came with so many garnishes that you could add to your peking duck wrap, and you also have the option to enjoy the bones fried or in a broth after (to not waste any part!). I also enjoyed the garlic Chinese broccoli and it was the perfect pairing with the lamb and duck. I enjoyed a memorable family meal at Juqi, where the food and service were excellent. My only complaint was that they forgot to serve us the duck soup as part of our Peking duck whole set. We only found out when we got home and saw it missing from our leftovers. That said, here were the highlights: Appetizers: -Colorful Aged Vinegar Jellyfish ($29): This cold appetizer was slightly sweet, delicious and refreshing. -Cabbage in sesame paste ($16): This cold dish was also sweet and unusual. I had never tried sesame paste on cabbage before but was one of my favorites of the evening. My toddler son LOVED it. -Braised abalone and pickled chayote ($32): The abalone and chayote were both very spicy. In fact, the overpowering flavor of the chayote was more spicy than pickled. The abalone was chewy and a bit tough. I would skip this in the future. -Spinach with oyster mushrooms ($15): This dish was more to offer some healthy greens to counterbalance the richness of the other dishes. A nice palate cleanser but not particularly noteworthy. -complimentary Beijing appetizer sampler: loved the spicy okra. Somewhat odd in also including the yellow pea paste from the dessert section Entrees: -Juqi Signature Peking Duck whole set ($109): Definitely a highlight of the night, more for the presentation than the actual taste. I don't mean to be a snob when I say "I've had better," since the quality here was high. The meat was tender, but somehow the roasted duck skin and meat were not all that flavorful. A staff cut the duck skillfully for us and then presented the slices aesthetically in a box. Although the pancakes and cucumber and scallion fillings are unlimited, I can't imagine anyone really going through much more than what is offered. A complimentary salt and pepper stir-frie duck, spicy fried duck, or duck soup are offered using the remaining meat. We ordered the soup since we thought the duck meat, tofu, and cabbage would complement the rest of our meal. Sadly this never came. -Vancouver Crab ($68): To cater to my kids, we ordered this non-spicy. Big mistake. While it was still good, it was a bit bland and hard to justify the price. -Spicy Lobster ($39): This was one of my favorite dishes. Superb flavor with a generous amount of lobster meat. -Juqi Fried Rice ($22): Despite the show of turning off the lights and lighting the burner, the actual fried rice was surprisingly bland in flavor. The Chinese sausage lacked punchy flavor. -Fried Leaf Mustard in Casserole ($16): A solid vegetable dish cooked just right, preserving the crunchiness and tenderness of the vegetable and its natural flavor. -Braised beef tendon soup with braised sea cucumber ($56): This was another one of my favorites from the evening. The sauce was extremely rich, but I loved how tender the beef tendon and sea cucumbers were. This came with little balls of rice, ready to soak up the thick, oozy sauce. -Sauteed Chinese Cabbage with Sour Sauce ($6): Very good vegetable dish that was savory, spicy, and sour. One of the better "deals" -Eggplant Of That Autumn Year ($19): Lightly fried, yet still too fried for my liking. A regrettable choice for someone who doesn't like fried food. I had somehow missed this important aspect of the dish when ordering. -Eight delicacy tofu ($36): This was very good, and included soft tofu, shrimp, chicken thigh, flounder, pork tenderloin slices, scored squid, sea cucumber, abalone, scallops, and egg. The soft tofu was I believe lightly battered. The squid was cooked really well and not too tough. More seafood and less chicken and pork would have been preferred. -Stir-fried shredded potato ($14): This was tasty, but way too fatty. The little bits of millet didn't do much for flavor. Dessert: -Peking Milk Skin Yogurt ($6): This is not your typical yogurt, or even watery yogurt sometimes seen in mainland supermarkets: This was an extremely rich and dense yogurt that tasted more like a thick pudding. This appeared to be packaged and not made in-house. Good for takeaway. -Almond Tofu Pudding In Peach Shape ($9): One of my favorite desserts. I loved the subtle almond taste and slightly sweet pairing of the tofu pudding with the white chocolate peach exterior -Beijing four piece set place snacks ($32): Personally I really enjoyed the set, which included a coconut red bean mochi, yellow pea-based "paste," date paste, and glutinous rice roll with red bean. I loved these, but not particularly exciting textures or flavors. -Rabbit milk pudding: Soft, lightly sweet, and like jello. I loved this -Summer in Beijing ($12): My dairy-loving son adored this creamy drink full of condensed milk. Too sweet for me and grapes didn't enhance flavor. Juqi offers private rooms with $488 in minimum spend. They have electric lazy Susans that rotate automatically. Service was solid. Food came out extremely slow and they forgot to give us the duck bones from the Peking duck. They also forgot a few dishes and we were there over two hours at that point. Really needed to go. (1)Old Beijing Hawthornt Hawthorn, Rock Sugar $18.00 - purely for aesthetics. This was pretty good and the kids enjoyed it. (2)Suzhou Soy Sauce Chicken Chicken $26.00 - felt like we needed a chicken but this was super dry and small. Not worth it. (3) Jugi Signature Peking Duck( Whole set) $109.00/+ Duck, caviar, tianmian sauce, cucumber | Complimentary salted and pepper duck rack, spicy fried duck rack, duck soup (choose 1 of 3) - there's a half duck option, but whole set is nicer presentation. The presentation was nice and taste seemed fine. (4) Smoked Pork Knuckles Elbow, pancakes $46.00 - it was good (6) Stewed Assorted Seafood with Vermicelli $29.00 Vermicelli, shrimps, squid whisker, crab seed - this dish seems to have a good mix of stuff (7) Sauterkraut Fish $36.00 Sauterkraut, fish fillet - wasn't good (8) Dual-Preparation King Crab (Steamed with Egg Custard/ Salt and pepper) King Crab, Egg $76.00/lb - must get but don't do the fried!
