This all just seemed part of the service, after cutting my hair the barber pulled a hot damp towel from some drawer especially designed for this purpose and rubbed my whole head with it. Then he put some strange massage thingy on his hand and I got a head massage that felt like I'd pressed my skull to a rubber Harley Davidson. It was funny and marvelous and like being instantly drunk. If you can imagine what it must be like to be a coffee ground getting steamed in an espresso machine in a Saturn 5 rocket on take-off, it would be something like this. Most invigorating. Steamed towels and a head vibro massage when was the last time that happened to me in a barbers...I'll tell you when, never! It was superb and I can't recommend this place highly enough. Instead, what I had was a compression therapy session. I had had this done several times a few years ago, so I am quite familiar with it and its equipment. This equipment was completely run down and it didn't cover the highest part of my thighs and my hips, which it should have. The feet parts were open (I am not sure if this is ok, but the ones I had previously used were completely closed). Also, the thick belt that covers the stomach was not tight at all and it felt like it was not doing anything. I did mention this but I was told that this was normal (I know it isn't!) There were parts of the material that looked kind of broken. All in all, it was a quick 'Hello, what is your name?', 'go in this room', I finish the session, and 'bye, see you' A drink would have been nice, or just some sort of acknowledgement other than you have already paid for this, here you go, now bugger off. As you can see, not impressed.

At The Barber's Shop you can get a well-priced, well-groomed cut for a few quid, (prices vary, but are very rarely close to even as pricey as £10), and the the owner, who took over the business from his Father, is a very polite and chatty family man. The guy will cut children's hair too, so if you've got a young-'un who needs a trim or new look, he can do this too, and even has discounted rates for children and OAP's on certain days. I've never had a cut here that I've been unhappy with and although often busy, you're never left waiting long to lighten the load on your scalp.
