After a devastating fire destroyed the original building in 2007, the store underwent a major reconstruction, reopening in 2015 as a modern, multi-level facility in the heart of the CBD. While department stores a bit of a dying breed in the USA, they're still around in the cities I visited in Australia. Hobart was no exception as I took a stroll through the multiple floors of the Myer Department Store during a recent visit. The placement of the escalators was a little confusing, but I did find as I took the elevator to the top and walked down. I was looking for stationary, travel things, and maybe a nice shirt. Store staff were well dressed and professional. Decor-wise, things seemed a little plain, albeit functional, clean, well stocked, and easy to maneuver.

Of my own fault, I tripped over my own feet and planted my face on the floor. The floor staff raced to my aid and made me comfortable as my nose streamed blood like a fountain. Their first aid officer Kelly was with me in moments, made me safe and handled the situation with calm and professionalism. They called the Tas Ambulance officers straight away, who examined me carefully and passed me to go home. Everyone was so kind and helpful, and I can't thank them enough. Well done, Myers, for good training and fast response and well done Kelly and the team for a challenging morning, handled like pros! Just a postscript: the other Paul C. who pops up on this review site (August 22, 2020) is not me! His comment about young, giggly uni students was not my experience at all. God bless 'em, I say!

We had just finished a hike through the Tasman National Park and after seeing so many unique Tasmania flora, I really wanted to see a botanical garden or nursery that sold local plants. When I heard from one of our guides that there was a place that was dedicated to producing local plants, I was sold. I took an Uber and decided to spend the morning exploring. Located in the suburban (almost rural) area of Ridgeway, Plants of Tasmania Nursery is about a 15 min drive outside of Hobart. They have a beautiful piece of land that has rows upon rows of little plants all from seed or cuttings of plants found throughout the state. My favorites were the local ferns and the Huon pine which they have many of. Too bad I can't bring these back with me as I would have loved to have a cutting or a plant of Huon pine in my garden. They do have a wonderful selection of seeds as well that some people can bring home but I ended up getting some of the books on local flora. That'd be my place to start! I bet more people would be interested in taking a look around if they knew it existed! What a great way to showcase the local flora and ensure preservation of these beautiful plants!

This is actually a relatively large store despite the cramped feel, and they seem to have a good range. Their staff are also genuinely nice and provide assistance when it's clear you need some. It has shops!…read more There is little selection -- at the time of writing you will find the following facilities: - Coles; - A meat place (not so good); - Baker's delight; - A little cafe (untested); - My State bank; - Newsagency/Post Office (very good and great opening hours); - Wendy's (Service is lacklustre); - A hair place (dunno); - A 24 hour kmart; - A couple of ATMs; and - A discount chemist. There's also a Kmart Tyre and Auto around the back, if that kind of thing floats your boat. So, a stock standard shopping centre, complete with Christmas decorations displayed wayyy too early. However, plenty of parking, and enough variety to get through the day to day bullshit of life.
