It is also located approximately half way up Southport's main shopping Boulevard making it a welcome restbite. Being another one of Wetherspoons branches, I was not expecting much different to the usual for breakfast. The obvious difference was that the breakfast was a little cheaper than in Liverpool city centre's branches. As for the service, it was fine and my plate was served within minutes of ordering. Food was hot and well-cooked with no burnt parts (usually my nightmare) so this was a relief! The decor was average and the lighting was dim, giving it a cosy feel. The atmopshere wasn't anything special but not a big issue for me. More importantly, the food and service was above satisfactory. If you're not one for breakfast, there is also a small variety of exotic meals, such as sweet chilli noodles and Morrocan meatballs which may take your fancy. Not to forget, they also serve up traditional English dishes such as pies and roasts which come at affordable prices. All in all, this is a decent gastropub and there's no reason why I wouldn't recommend it to others.

It is instead a popular pub/bar on Southport's busy Lord Street that is part of the Wetherspoons/Lloyd's Bar franchise. As you'd expect with such bars, their prices aren't the cheapest when it comes to drinks during the weekend but during the week there are some decent deals on and the beers and spirits they do have can be quite interesting and unusual sometimes. Despite their prices, The Willow Grove is still a place that my friends and I frequent regularly when we go out of a Thursday night in Southport as the atmosphere is friendly and relaxed in there and it is usually fairly busy with a youthful crowd. We only ever go there for a drink or two before moving elsewhere and I wouldn't spend a whole night there, but The Willow Grove does its job of being a place for us all to meet up and begin the night's festivities. The food there is decent enough as you'd expect and it's a nice place for a daytime drink but I would avoid it on Friday and Saturday nights as it gets rather too busy for me then.

We called for a quick pint last weekend and saw it was a typical chain style pub inside with the normal selection of drinks - a couple of cask offers but dominated by lager and bottles. BUT - what set it apart from a lot of chains was the two young fellas behind the bar. They were both very personable, polite and efficient. we decided then to call back in the week and try the grub - hence this review. The place was busy with a large table of young families with children - the kids were a bit loud and some of them spent the time running up and down. Its not my cup of tea but I try hard to smile and not be a grumpy old git - lesson learned though next time get there around 8pm as the kids had all departed by then. I got a pint of San Miguel which unfortunately was warm - when mentioned one of the bar staff said they had an issue on the cooler earlier in the day which might still not be fixed - he offered a choice of replacement straight away so no problem there. We ordered a mexican burrito for Sharon and I had fish and chips. I always judge a pubs food on its fish and chips! Well the grub arrived about 30 mins later ( they were busy and they did say it would be a wait ) Sharon's burrito looked a little unappealing on the plate all wrapped up with a side salad next to it. However on cutting into it a mass of chicken and rice was revealed - she enjoyed it immensely. My fish and chips looked a little on the small side - frozen chips - not a good start and one star off. The fish was not frozen and was freshly cooked - it was slightly overdone for my taste but tasted good. I have to say even with frozen chips I enjoyed the meal. Now when it came time to pay for the food the bill came to £12.00. That's right for both of us ! I thought then even though the fish and chips seemed a little on the small side the price point is just right - good value even. And to be honest I didn't leave the place hungry at all. I expect we will be back here in the future.
