9-15-25 Picking up lunch for hub's aunty who became 90 today. Luckily when I arrived there was no line outside the door. So many things that looked good but the plate could only hold: Monday's special meatballs Cone sushi Nishime Shoyu chicken Egg They carefully put the meatballs in a little cup, wrapped the nishime separate from the other items. I could hear a man n the other line saying hot dog, hash, etc. Those sounded good. I also ordered 3 rolls of maki sushi: one for aunty, 1 for a friend and one for our own lunch. My friend emailed asking where the sushi was from cuz her husband said it was the biggest he ever saw and that it was delicious. I wish I could show you Aunty's plate before the lady packaged it in a plastic bag cuz it was heavy. I hope she liked it. Strictly business, no pleasantries or smiles. You stand inside the doorway and wait to go in either the right or left line cafeteria style- you look, say what you want then pay, cash only. Nothing fancy as the main dining room is dark and closed off. Typical okazuya place you order and go. Not an eat in place.

My husband & I are suckers for okazuya's. We always passed by this place and we finally decided to give it a try. When we first arrived they had a line (always a sign that it'll be good). They also provided paper menus and pencils so you could figure out your order while waiting. We handed over our paper order to the cashier and she started on our plate. They were quick and packed everything really well so it wouldn't leak onto each other. They have a lot of options from maki sushi, fried chicken, gobo, adobo, etc. We tried a little bit of everything. The fried chicken was super crispy & fresh which I liked. It was also cooked all the way through. Some places don't cook their chicken all the way through. The gobo was spicy for some reason but to be fair, it was my first time eating it. My husband likes gobo and he said it was spicy also, or packed a bit of heat. I seen that a lot of people got the adobo, so being a Filipino, I had to try for myself. It was really tender pieces pork that were falling apart. But had a strong vinegar taste. I personally liked it. The Friday special was stir fry eggplant so I also got that. It was Chinese eggplant cooked in a brown sauce w/ pieces of meat. Price wise, it was typical pricing for okazuya in Oahu. Nothing compared to the okazuya's in Hilo but definitely satisfied our cravings. We will be back to try again :) thank

Kabuki Restaurant our favorite Japanese food restaurant. Now only serving Okazuya 7 days a week. Catering is available especially great for the Holidays. We were feeding a bunch of folks with a bunch of different tastes. Pretty much ordered everything on the menu. All were delicious . The ladies at the counter were awesome. . The cooks were on point, everything was prepared perfectly and so Delicious . When we brought it home everything quickly disappeared.

Anytime I go eat okazuya, I can't but help to think about my Yelp buddy- Bruddah Dan O., as he is da KING of okazuya! Bruddah Dan is da man for okazuya, as he's been to a lot of okazuya joints (including Kabuki), and has generously shared with me some of his recommendations/favorite okazuya joints. On my recent okazuya adventures, da Kabuki Restaurant was targeted, as I was enticed by a marinaded frrrrrried chicken that my Yelp buddy - Donna O. had posted on Yelp not too long ago. Where is the Kabuki Restaurant??? If ya know where the Waimalu Shopping Center is, you can find the Kabuki restaurant among the various eateries at this shopping complex in Aiea. Upon walking into the restaurant, both ladies working the okazuya counter was already helping some folks, but after waiting behind a lady, it was my turn. I proceeded to order da following items- 1. Frrrrrrried Chicken ($3.50 per piece), I got two. Unfortunately for me, I didn't see that Marinated Frrrrrried Chicken that by Yelp buddy - Donna O. had talked about. 2. Shoyu Chicken ($3.50 per piece). 3. Cone Sushi ($2.40). 4. Shrimp Tempura ($2.50). 5. Potato Tempura ($2.25). 6. Egg Omelet ($1.40). What can I say about the grub?? If you like old skool comfort food, Kabuki Okazuya clearly meets the old skool joints. Nothing fancy about the food. I found some items better than others. I LOVED the Shoyu Chicken, but the Fried Chicken appeared over cooked & hard. I really dug the Cone Sushi, and of course the tempura items were to die for! Like many okazuya joints on Oahu, I have a few favorites, but my ultimate all time FAVORITE okazuya joints is actually on da Big Island (Hilo to be exact!). If you're ever in the Aiea neighborhood, Kabuki Okazuya really meets the old skool comfort food joints! Chance 'em!

Wifey wanted sushi, and tea cookies. I dropped her off at Kabukis and I went to Chun Wah Kam near by to pick up the tea cookies. We haven't been to Kabukis since they close their dine in. She bought cone sushi, maki sushi, vegetable tempura and potato tempura. I ate the vegetable tempura. It was delicious. Good tempura crispness , maybe just a little doughy. The cone sushi was also tasty, but I prefer a little more vinegar.Service was fast and efficient. The line move fast. Come early for the best selections .Enjoy

Love the food here. So many options to choose from. Service is always great. Ambiance is perfect for the spot.

I always wondered why the line was out the door here. Obviously most of their customers live in the area. Probably going to be my first and last time here. I tried some of their items and still found it just ok. Can't beat Gulick Deli as far as selection and flavor. Their prices are also on par with Gulick but if you crave this okazu items then I'm biased with Gulick. I just love all of Gulick deli's items and Kabuki is just not up to par with them in taste and selections.

My plate! Shoyu chicken, long rice, shrimp tempura, gobo, tamago, futomaki, & da BEST inari :D

We love Kabuki Okazuya! When I think of Okazuya, I usually compare other places to the offerings at Kabuki. There are many other places on the island that serve this type of food, but my bias always steers me back here. I appreciate their menu being on the smaller side so it isn't too overwhelming to come to my decision. I'm the type that wants everything, so it's hard for me to go into a place that has endless options. Foodie problems... haha! :( Service is quick and to the point here. Just wait in line, walk up when you're called, and point to the things you want. There's a menu board on the wall that could help guide you, but the simplest rule of thumb is to choose what looks good that day. Phone orders are also welcomed! Popular items are hard to identify since there's a nice blend of local & Japanese okazu to suit different taste preferences. Our faves start with the fried halibut - a simple piece of fish that's lightly breaded, salted, and fried. Then next is the gobo! This really grew on me over the years of getting old lol I love the savory crunch that has a kick of spice, depending on the bite. Third fave is the long rice noodles and shoyu chicken. I can't ever get a plate without one of the two, so they both land as my third favorite lol. There's also daily specials that remain the same week after week. Thankfully for me, they have all my faves everyday! Admittedly, it would be nice to see different specials from time to time. Through the decades of dining here, I'm almost certain the majority of their menu hasn't changed. On a positive note tho, I am happy to say that I have NEVER had issues with the food here. Yes, everything is prepared ahead of time, but thankfully it all remains fresh and my tummy always approves too!

When I'm in the area, kabuki is my go to okazuya place. Some of my favorites are maki, chow fun and nishime. Usually there's a line when we go so expect to wait maybe 10-20 mins when it's busy. The restaurant still closed unfortunately but I used to love coming here for lunch.

    Hope S.

Okazukya review: Been coming here occasionally for years as it is relatively close to my house. Most items around $2-4 each. They have a variety of things from sushi, namasu, tempura, chicken. Tempura can be a little oily but it has good flavor. Chicken was little dry but nice shoyu flavor. Good spot if you are in the area and want a okazuya type of breakfast/lunch.

    Pork konbu wrap

OMG nooooo!!! I was thinking of taking my friend to this restaurant for his birthday next month, and just read on the question and answer if their restaurant is still open, and saw two answers mentioning that they permanently closed on January 28, 2024. I called Kabuki, and to my relief, the Okazuya side is still open. Yay! I noticed I didn't write a review for this restaurant yet, and after a string of mediocre service or food at other places this past month, I needed to write about somewhere that will lead myself and you yelpers to enjoy and saw this restarant pop up in my pending places to review. I love this place, especially the pork konbu, cone sushi and namasu. They are the best okazuya I could find, and I cannot find anywhere that serves delicious pork konbu like they do, so I have to make a special early morning trip just to get it. Although it says they close at 1p, they are basically out of the good stuff by 11a or sometimes, if I'm lucky, before noon. The last time I went, although a bit salty, I was fortunate to have the last two remaining pieces available for me to enjoy. Now that I am writing this, I am craving for their food and want to go sometime this week when I can wake up and drive out early to get it. There is nowhere to sit and enjoy their food, so I usually pick up to bring home. There is always a line, and only 4 people can be in the store at one time. Also, CASH only. There is an ASB ATM outside, in front of the strip of stores if you don't have enough cash because buying each item can add up. Lots of parking since it is in the waimalu shopping center.

It absolutely did not disappoint. Safe to say I'll be wondering why I waited so long! We ordered quite a variety and every dish brought something delicious to the table. The Red Spider (soft shell crab, crab meat, romaine lettuce, cucumber, avocado, and tobiko) was incredible. Every single bite was packed with flavor and texture. That crispy soft shell crab added the perfect crunch that made this roll hard to stop eating. The Black Spider (soft shell crab, crab meat, cream cheese, romaine lettuce, cucumber, and avocado) was an interesting twist from the Red Spider. I wasn't sure what to expect, but it was equally delicious. The cream cheese gave it a richer, creamier bite that worked surprisingly well. Next up was the Chicken Katsu Curry. Japanese-style curry with veggies and crispy chicken katsu over rice. The chicken was beautifully crispy, exactly how katsu should be. Crunchy on the outside, tender on the inside, and paired perfectly with the rich curry. The veggies were cooked just right too. Overall, a really satisfying dish. The Spicy Ahi Handroll was another winner. You really can't go wrong with this one. It was fresh, flavorful, and honestly disappeared within two bites. Yum! Then came the Pork Katsu Donburi with scrambled eggs, veggies over rice, drizzled with their amazing house sauce. Just like the chicken, the pork katsu was delicious. But can we talk about that sauce? Perfecto. I'm not sure what's in it, but it tied the entire dish together beautifully. And of course, dessert! The Fried Oreo with Ice Cream. It came with vanilla ice cream surrounded by deep-fried Oreo and drizzled with chocolate syrup. It was yuuuuummy! Hands down, I would order this again. Do not pass up this dessert. From sushi rolls to katsu dishes and ending on a sweet note, Sushi Spot completely exceeded expectations. Great flavors, satisfying portions, and multiple dishes I'd happily order again. If you've been driving by this place and saying, "I'll try it one day," take this as your sign. This spot is an absolute must try!

We got smoked out and it got bad to the point where my eyes were getting watery. Not sure if this happens all the time at this spot- this was my first time. The service was okay. We waited over 10 minutes to get cups of water and to put in our order. I totally get that they were short handed which also explains why it took almost 40 minutes for us to be served. Ordered the Negi-Hamachi to try something different. Hamachi is my favorite fish served sashimi style so I decided to switch it up and order the Negi-Hamachi which is finely chopped, yellow-tail with green onion and wasabi over sushi rice served with tsukemono and miso soup. I was super happy with this because the Hamachi was delicious and surprisingly, I did not feel bloated or too full afterwards.

There is something deeply confusing about Mitch's Fish Market & Sushi Bar…read more Not bad confusing.Worse. Identity-crisis confusing. Because the fish?Excellent. Cold, clean, glistening with that dangerous little shimmer that tells you somebody in the supply chain actually cared. You can taste the quality immediately. The kind of quality that silences a table for half a second. And credit where it is due: almost everything I tried ranged from very good to genuinely great. But then the room begins speaking. And suddenly the spell breaks. The atmosphere feels like someone took a serious sushi counter, stripped away all sensuality, all elegance, all ritual, then dropped it inside a fluorescent island diner where exhausted civilians came to discuss parking validation and Costco receipts. It is the culinary equivalent of wearing a Rolex with orthopedic sneakers. The contradiction never stops humming beneath the experience. You sit there eating beautiful fish while surrounded by an energy that feels strangely... transactional. Heavy. Casual in the least flattering way. A room with no mystery. No seduction. No gravity. Like Zippy's accidentally wandered into the tuna trade and struck gold. And on an island like Oahu, where atmosphere matters almost as much as the fish itself that becomes a real problem. Because sushi is not merely consumption. It is theater.Restraint.Texture.Whispered precision. The best sushi spots on Oahu understand this instinctively. They understand that exceptional fish alone is not enough. You are paying for transportive experience. For mood. For elegance. For the feeling that the evening exists slightly outside ordinary life. At Mitch's, the fish reaches for Tokyo while the room drags you back toward a tired strip mall off the freeway. And then there's the crowd. Not evil people. Not rude people. Just an oddly low-rent energy orbiting genuinely premium seafood. The kind of room where one table is eating remarkable otoro while another feels one argument away from discussing used-car financing over soy sauce packets. It creates dissonance. Especially considering the prices. Because at those prices, you begin comparing the full experience not merely the fish quality and that is where Mitch's stumbles hard. There are multiple sushi spots across Oahu that equal or surpass the seafood while also delivering beauty, atmosphere, intimacy, and actual emotional texture. So what remains is this strange contradiction: Mitch's serves fish far above the dignity of its own ambience Which almost makes it fascinating. Would I be back - no . You can get same and better quality fish, much better vine, better part of town for the same Price.

Ginza Sushi looked good so I called ahead and asked if they could seat 13 people and they were more than accommodating. 5 minutes after I called and walked over, we were already seated and taken care of. The food was absolutely delicious. This is the best and authentic sushi I've ever tasted. Definitely worth the price! Russel was an amazing server as well! Very fast and great personality. Service was friendly and the space was really nice. Price was reasonable. Great date spot. I will definitely be back.
