After changing plans on the fly for one of our days in Vienna, we had a free morning. We had read…read moreabout the island park in the Danube and opted to check it out. We took the subway to the island - there is a dedicated station there. It is then easy to walk down a ramp and access the park. We spent about an hour here. There is at least one central paved axial path/road in the center. There were no cars but plenty of bikes and runners. In the part we explored there were several places to access the shore (mostly to view buildings on the Vienna side or to check out the waterfowl). There were also several parks (kids' playgrounds, one dedicated more for adult exercising, one with interesting water-themed activities for children (including a pull-yourself-along raft). There were also occasional people fishing and a few apparently homeless groups and their tents. Overall, the vibe seemed pretty safe. There were at least one or two public restrooms (fee-based) that we passed also. It appeared that there might be some food options opening later as well. If you want a break from museums and history and just want a quiet stroll near the river, this is a good option.

Well, according to a friend, when they started doing digging for the New Donau, they had to put the…read moreland somewhere. It was decided to make an artificial island, make it green, and make it beautiful. I visited here once just out of curiosity, and was very glad I did! It is another awesome place to walk, run, bike, or swim if you are up for it. There are several platforms for that too. There are plenty of bars and eateries along the strip (near the U-Bahn is particular). I have tried them, so I cannot speak for the quality. Love the Booteria! It was an awesome experience to try boating! Particularly great on a warm sunny day! If you are visiting Vienna from out of town, unless there is a special event taking place, it is not a place to top your list of places to visit. However, if you are in Vienna for an extended period, it should definitely be on your list!.

I bet it's gorgeous in the summer with all the greenery, and colorful flower beds. It's perfect for a nice stroll or enjoying some quiet time away from the city's hustle. Loved the famous Johann Strauss monument and the small ponds with ducks. There are plenty of benches to sit and a nice playground if you have children.

Fantastic experience when you are in this busy and beautiful city and you need an hour or two of…read moreserenity. Gorgeous foliage of the Gingko trees glow even in the overcast weather and were a perfect autumn show stopper. Strolling through this lovely park takes you back to simpler times when you actually see an occasional jogger and couples holding hands as they stoll amongst the trees and glorious sculptures. It is fun to stand on the bridge above the train rail way and watch the train come in and stop of the station. This park is huge and you could probably spend all day here.

The Leopoldsberg is a good tour for tourists visiting Vienna. You need about half a day time for it…read morebut you will not regret it. Up there there is a tremendous view about the River Danube and the older and newer districts of Vienna. You can reach the Leopoldsberg either with a bus - or - if you fancy a little hike you can travel with the "U4" to Heiligenstadt, then ask for the Bus to "Kahlenbergdoerfl" (just print it and show it to someone at Heiligenstadt) and then you can climb the Leopoldsberg using the famous "Nasenweg" (Nose-path) along the "nose" of the Leopoldsberg. I had the goulash and my wife has a beef special. We sat outside in the courtyard which set up a perfect evening as we said goodbye to Vienna. I should have taken pictures but wanted to stay off my phone and enjoy the company of my beautiful wife and the final hours in Austria. If we ever come back, this will be our first stop.

Ringstrasse is the street where most of the culturally important landmarks and tourist sites are…read morelocated. I recommend hopping on a tram/bus and taking it all the way around this circular boulevard so you get a sense of where everything is located in relation to each other, as well as to get a feel for the city. It's a main street, so it is extremely busy with both vehicular and pedestrian traffic. It was built on what was once the old city walls, hence it being a ring (same word in German). Hubs and I took the tram around it AND walked most of it, just to get up close and personal with some of the buildings, like the Parliament and City Hall. The best shopping and restaurants are inside the ring, the Innere Stadt, but you can find a few decent place on the outskirts. 72/2025
