The hotel's spare, vaguely Japanese design appeals - think hardwood floors, muted colours, no superfluous object cluttering up otherwise open space - and so many of the little touches are ones I love like lavender-scented sleep spray next to your bed to spritz on your sheets, a terrific tea menu and an ambient music soundtrack that has twice helped me focus and power through work. The well-trained staff is attentive to your needs, whether they be for a classic cocktail in the lobby or internet access in your room. When I had trouble connecting to the wireless, someone was dispatched to upstairs with a CAT5 cable quicker than I could restart my MacBook! And unlike many hotels, the internets here are free (the way they should be!)

I was there on business (coming from vacation) and the airline had conveniently lost my bags. Joy. That said, I was checked in quickly and efficiently, handed a toothbrush and toothpaste by the sympathetic Front Desk and also told something about my key card -- to which I smiled and nodded (lost in translation). Upon getting to my room, I soon realized they had been telling me that my key card actually turns on the lights in my room. After several (OK, 10 minutes), of trying to figure out how, I located the thing-a-mig-jiggy by the door (technical term) and inserted my card: voila! Lights! The room itself is sparse, but has all your needs: nice bed, view of beautiful Munich, TV, cupboards, Free Internet (albeit very temperamental) and best of all: lavender sheet spray! I never figured out how to use the rain shower head, but did just fine with the other one that's in there. Hopefully future guests will have better luck. But best of all? The service AND the bar. After having many an expertly mixed cocktail in the hotel bar with my colleagues, I toddled myself over to the Front Desk in a borrowed sweater to inquire if my bag arrived. The (again) sympathetic chap said it hadn't arrived, but if I wanted, he would bring it up to me as soon as it did no matter what time. I eagerly nodded, fearing the worst: I would be arriving to my morning's meetings in sandals. But sure enough, at 4am I opened my door to see my waiting bag. Let's just say it was like Christmas had come early! After going that extra mile, the staff, convenient and beautiful location and clean interior would definitely have me excited to stay at Louis Hotel again. Let's just hope my bags come with me next time!

And when a lade came out of the building and went across the street with basket of fresh croissant to offer us a snack, she had me at hello :) Luitpold is also very well situated at beautiful lake Tangersee. All rooms with the lake view are nicely decorated and have their own balconies. The street is busy, as it goes around the lake, but the view compensates it. One thing that also coughs my attention is bathroom. Very well arranged so you have place to put your stuff exactly where you want it to be (including shelf under the shower). The only thing I am deducting one star is due to poor wifi. Not reachable by phone, breaking up with the computer. Nowadays it is a standard and when they improve it, 5 stars will appear!

As with so many older hotels, the rooms differ vastly in size and quality--they fobbed us off with what I'm pretty sure was a single: at best, one of the most cramped doubles I ever saw. Worse, the furniture was largely sticks with fabric draped over (the table came from a patio) to conceal the humble origins. On a complaint, they did move us to a larger room--superficially more attractive but still seemed to be pretty cheap stuff. Breakfast was in the same vein. Food that looked good but was nothing special, served on dishes that looked classy but were really nothing of he sort. And with so many older hotels, the number of things to trip or stumble over is almost beyond counting. And a warning: also so many older European hotels, no air conditioning. Don't try to take a nap in a west-facing room in Juky.

They do have breakfast available for an extra cost. In the shopping center just down the block, there is a bakery and grocery store. We discovered this on our last day there.

The town is a bit of the playground for the rich and famous and is lined with boutiques, antique shops, art galleries and fashion galore. This hotel is home to the only three Michelin star restaurant in Bavaria and unfortunately, it was closed for annual holidays during our visit. That alone will bring me back here again. There are three other restaurants here and a nice lobby bar. There is a spa here that is huge and very well equipped. There are multiple sauna & steam rooms (note: this is a nude area only), swimming pool with a kids pool, hot and cold tubs, relaxation room, a library, a cafe, big gym, yoga/aerobics room and, a full service spa with a large menu of treatments. I absolutely loved the spa and saunas. You can also go to the spa for day use but, you need to book it in advance, if you are not staying at the hotel. The rooms are very well appointed and functional. The beds are super comfortable and some of the rooms have a balcony. The bathrooms are well appointed and you get all the supplies you need in there. Attention to detail is very good. If you want English paper in the morning it's not a problem. Our room also had a tablet that you could use to order food, book spa and restaurants, information, extend or change your reservation and request late checkout. It was a wonderful addition to the room. Wifi was great and available everywhere in the hotel. Pets are allowed for an extra charge and they had a bed and a big bowl of food waiting for the arrival of Samy, our dog. His eyes were lit up the moment he walked into the room ;-)) Note that dogs are not allowed in the restaurants and the spa area. Dog sitting services are available on request and can be booked at reception. The thing that made this place super special for me was the service. It was fantastic and the staff were so welcoming and friendly. This was common throughout the hotel and the restaurants. That alone will bring me back here. The finest service I have experienced in a hotel in Germany to date. We loved it and whilst it's not cheap, I would come back here in a heartbeat. Such places are hard to find in Europe. The overall experience made us want more and we almost considered extending for another night, however, our schedule did not permit it.

The mattress was definitely one the best I have slept on in hotels and toiletries were top notch. Super clean. The lobby is stunning and so inviting. The roof top is a great spot to see the city and if you can enjoy their afternoon tea it's great and definitely great way to unwind the afternoon. Also Matsuhisha restaurant by Nobu has fantastic sushi. Overall great staff running a great show. It was my first time staying with them definitely they made it memorable. You truly are getting everything and more for what you are paying.

This rooftop by far has the best views of the city. The rooftop on top of the hotel is called Munich Sushi Club - you can dine up here but we just came for drinks. Cocktails are €20 each - on the pricey side but for these views it's worth it.
