Only one motion was filed, and my case never even made it to court. Before our attorney-client relationship ended, I was informed that I would be receiving a refund for the unused portion of the flat fee (approximately $1,500). Unfortunately, I no longer have the email because it expired, but after that communication, my calls and messages went unanswered, and I never received the refund or any explanation. The most frustrating part wasn't the outcome of my case--it was the lack of communication and follow-through. Once they had my money, I felt completely ignored. I hired Kaitlyn for what, to be fair, turned out to be a custody case with some moving parts. I never got the sense that Kaitlyn or staff were very organized. She was not responsive and in the end gave me what I now believe to be bad advice. I offered more money for what I hoped would give my case more attention but she to her credit she stuck to her fee scale. With that being said after working with Kaitlyn I got a judgement that was not only less than what I was asking, the judge actually added language that was detrimental to me and beyond the norm. I have since returned to court and self represented. Abysmal communication. I never met Ms. Miller face to face. I felt like she felt clients got in the way of doing her job. Voice mails were not returned, emails were ignored. Stopping by the office without an appointment could result in a $50 penalty/fee (no guarantee anyone would be in the office, I was stood up on more than one occasion). Wasted our time. Our first consultation was cancelled since we never received the text to confirm (nor knew that was how we needed to confirm). So when we showed up 30 mins early we were shocked that our appointment that we made 3 weeks in advance weeks in advanced was cancelled and we were given no noticed. We rescheduled only to have them text us to tell us we needed to reschedule again which brings us to today. Our appointment which was supposed to be in person became a phone consultation day of and she never even called! We waited over 20 minutes past the scheduled time. Tried calling the office and no one answered. They have wasted too much of our time and obviously our time is not important to them. I am very disappointed with the level of professionalism that my situation was handled with. As a lawyer with billboards all over Reno, I would suspect that Kaitlyn would be more respectful of people's time. I scheduled an appointment with Kaitlyn to have a consultation over the phone. My appointment was at 2:30 pm, which I had to take time off work because they said that was the latest appointment available. My partner was also part of the consult so he and I had to coordinate a date and time that worked for us. Also I scheduled that appointment three weeks in advance just to be able to have the time off granted. At 2:40 I decided to call their office because I had not received a call. I even contacted Kaitlyn and her secretary through email. Kaitlyn didn't reach out until 3:55 pm stating she was "running a few minutes behind and would TRY to squeeze us in during the week." I felt completely disrespected and I felt as if my time wasn't respected either. I would've appreciated and understood if Kaitlyn or her team would've have reached out on time to let me know they were running behind and I could've rescheduled and went back to work. I would've appreciated an apology instead of her nonchalant response saying she will TRY to SQUEEZE me in as if I hadn't taken time off work and planned to be on time to a consult with her because I actually do respect her time. I called back to respond to her voicemail and I have not heard back. I had previously tried to retain Kaitlyn, which she agreed to and stated she had to move the day prior to my court date. Kaitlyn then sent someone else on her behalf, which should've been a clue as to the way she does business but I decided to trust her again and now I have learned my lesson. Wow!! I have used Kaitlyn twice now for family law court. The first time I used her was exceptional. When I needed to go back to court I wanted to try and use my "lawyer insurance " so I had to go to someone else. It was a disaster.
