He has learned a lot in just one year, and not only can he converse in French, but read and write it too! He has become more confident in asking, and conversing with native French speakers, and with others. In addition, he has learned some fun songs and games in French, and has made a lot of new friends in the program. He is going into the first grade this year, and will continue in this wonderful program twice a week. My older children had gone through a different after school program years ago before the EFBA was available, and wish that their program had been as good as this one. They are in high school now, and are taking French in school, and have noted how much he has learned in the EFBA program at a young age. All the instructors are native French speakers and trained instructors. The teachers are kind, organized, really care for the children, and make learning fun. They did seasonal crafts, and special performances at various holidays, and my son really enjoyed the school's celebration in January with Galettes des Rois (King Cakes) a lot. It brought the community together, and it was fun to celebrate this holiday with others, and learn new traditions. The families in the EFBA community are all very nice, and it has been a good experience for the parents to make friends with each other too. This year the EFBA is offering the extra enrichment opportunities of the "Museum Quest" and "Kid's Night Out" for free with your child's enrollment in the program. The Museum Quest is a really nice opportunity for the children to socialize, and have fun in French with local field trips. The Kid's Night Out is a evening for the children to have fun with activities in French, while the parents can have their own date night. These programs are offered during the month. There are programs for French speaking children, and also for students that are new to French, so your child will be placed in a group of peers that will be at their same level of French learning. We highly recommend this program, and look forward to our son progressing through the program through middle school, where he can then take the DELF French examinations that will qualify him as proficient for future enrollment in a French University, if he ever chose to study abroad. The best part is that his French accent, and familiarity with French have been developed at a young age, so his language is very natural. His French step -grandmother is very impressed with his French, and loves having a young grandchild to converse with in her native tongue! She is a retired French language and literature professor, and has been very pleased with his education in the EFBA program.

We hire credentialed French teachers to teach children, age 5 -18, both native-speakersand from Francophile families, and prepare them to earning diplomas granted by the French Government and accepted in French-speaking universities. It gives an educational, affordable, yet fun environment for your children to learn French.

Thank you to the Tutor Doctor for helping me, a self-described math cripple to understand algebra!…read moreI sought out professional help in my math class because the help I was getting from so-called math whiz friends just wasn't helping me learn. Working with the teacher from the Tutor Doctor made all the difference. In just a few weeks of two session per week, I have gone from feeling hopeless and utterly confused to a level of understanding in my course work I feared I would never reach. I will be taking upper Algebra and Chemistry next semester and will be counting on the Tutor Doctor to help me achieve the same results in those classes. Sincerely, Sandra

Now that we know that the tutor they found for him was perfect. My son loves his tutor and works very well with him. My son does'nt just like everyone so that says a lot. He has improved in reading and understanding what he is readin., He has also slowed down to focus more as well as not ashamed to wear his eye patch in front of his tutor. I cannot thank you guys enough. I look forward in him improving more so he feels better at school and with completing his homework.

My daughter is in the sixth grade and pretty much a straight A student, except for math. She began slipping behind this past semester and was getting a C in math. This stressed her out far more than me however I convinced her and myself that we could tackle this together. That was until I learned the hard way that this common core BS it literally the most confusing math I have ever encountered. We gave it a week of me trying to teach myself and then her. And then another week of me getting absolutely frustrated. And then by the end of the second week I threw in the towel and started searching for tutors. Initially I was set on getting her a private tutor like I had done for my son 8 years prior. To my surprise and horror? Private tutors were running upward of $140 for an hour of in home tutoring. Ok. They make more than I do. I then decided that was insane and I switched gears settling on Sylvan at West Portal. The start up was pain free, she had her assessment and then headed full steam ahead with the small group math tutoring 2 days per week. There was only 2 months of school left, she had a C- in math going into it and finished the semester with a solid B. The best part of all was the confidence boost she got along with that B. The staff at Sylvan were friendly, easy to communicate with and never tried to push packages on us that we didn't need. Her assessment was so helpful in that it picked up area's where she needed help that she didn't know she even needed help in. The prices were very competitive and although I was hoping to get her the 1:1 tutoring I was limited by the cost and reassured that she would likely do just as well with the small groups. They were correct. There was not a single tutor that Lily did not click with. They were all patient and kind providing updates along the way with her progress. It was all around a great experience and she will definitely return for the math homework group in the Fall. I would recommend Sylvan to anyone who's child is falling behind in a subject and needs a boost. The money spent was well worth it and my girl went into the summer feeling great about herself and her grades.

As it was a feeder school at the time (not sure now), many students coming in were top of their class (I was) and later (shockingly) found themselves middle of the pack at Lowell. It didn't affect me, but I realize that for many, that can be rough. If you can't handle that pressure or simply don't want the competition, maybe its not for you. I wasn't a studyaholic like many others at Lowell were (you don't have to be), I wasn't a study nerd. I wasn't in the back lawn crowd either (which were the more popular kids) ... I was very into sports and led a very healthy high-school life, with numerous friends and social activity. I did my fair share of late night cramming, though, I had to in order to keep up the grades. I was very responsible with homework, always on time (or ahead of time) and in good form. I was never the smartest kid in the class, but hard work kept me near the top, which is where I wanted to be. That was a life lesson that would serve me well, throughout my career and to this day. I never needed a tutor nor help from parents, I just assumed my responsibility and did my work. In the end, I had good grades going in and got good grades going out. Top 5% of my class. Looking back, I have nothing to complain about. Competitive ... yes, but so is life. My memories of Lowell are summed by, great school, hard, but manageable if you are bright, hard working and responsible. If I had to do it again, I would.

We wanted to continue and asked about other options. They offered a semi-private option, but they then tried to up-charge us more money to continue and nickeling and diming us the entire interaction. We had wanted to stay, but they clearly did not value our business when they made little attempt at retaining us or offering other alternatives.
