This place is great! Very homey atmosphere and welcoming vibe. All the beer tastes great. Elk sausage is out of this world.

Yelp brought us here.... Yep, it's not in a glorious location.... It does feel like I should be next to the beach in Mexico with my toes in the sand as I sit at a picnic table on the patio... There is a trailer park and KOA along side.... The outside patio looked like where we wanted to sit, but it was full so we sat inside. Great tunes playing and the beer was outstanding. Really good. The IPA had an 80 IBU and was full of flavor. The food... Not too exciting. Our group shared 2 pizzas and a bowl of the buffalo chili. Our server was uninspiring... Didn't see the owner present as mentioned in many other posts. Wouldn't go here for the food but definitely for the beer. Loved the vibe, the uniqueness, and funkiness. Go for the beer. Do yourself a favor and make the drive to Kaktus; you'll be glad you did. It's easy to see why they have been rated one of the best NM craft breweries. Their beer is great, especially if you want more than to just hammer your taste buds with hops. The food is excellent too. But what makes this place truly special is the staff and happy customers as everyone is super friendly to regulars and first time patrons alike. The upbeat eclectic setting helps for sure. But what drives it all is the owner, Dana, who is often seen attending to even the smallest details. He not only makes you feel welcome, he actually values your feedback and inputs. Ordered a pepperoni pizza. It was the blandest tasting pizza I've ever eaten in my life. No flavor whatsoever. Please consider changing the recipe. The only redeeming quality was the perfectly crisp pepperoni. read more

Wow! My friend took me here for the first time last night. I love the interior; I had been to that location before when it was Bailey's on the Beach and I am glad they kept the decor. The beer was great and the servers were friendly. My friend introduced me to the owner, Dana, and I was quite impressed. He took the time to chat and make us feel right at home. He suggested just the right beer for me - Hellos - a lighter beer whit a full rich taste. We each ordered hot dogs - mine was Duck with cilantro - his was the Wild Boar. I have to admit that I was "playing it safe" with the duck as my other choices were Wild Boar, or Elk Cheddar & Jalapeño. (okay, they have an all beef dog as well but I wanted to try something different) The Duck Dog was amazing, I picked the bolillo roll and was not disappointed. It came perfectly toasted and the dog was amazing! I highly recommend Kaktus Brewing! Next time I'm there I think I will try the Elk and the Cherry Cider. :-) read more

We had just arrived in Albuquerque from back east, and we needed food and drink. Somehow we managed to stumble into Kaktus, and it turned out to be the perfect place to land. It's laid back, and the staff were very friendly. We ordered a pizza that was really unusual and really delicious, and a couple of beers that were equally perfect. The only downside to the place is that it isn't closer to our home (Pennsylvania). The next time we're in the area we'll definitely stop back! read more

Went there with friends and family. Outside is quaint, rustic and may scare some folks off, but we are brave souls and forged ahead. We were all happy that we did. Interior was minimal and just as rustic, but our waitress was cute, warm and friendly, beer was great, we tried a variety of the menu. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this place! My favorite is the Basil beer they make in the fall. I definitely stock up when it's available. I started going to this place before they began serving food. Now that food is available, where else do I need to go??? They serve pizza and hotdogs with different meats, like duck and bison. I have been there twice. Most recently I picked up beer and I have had a great experience both times. The wait staff and owner were very friendly. I enjoyed their cider, stout, and wheat. I took home a growler of their stout and ipa. They even brew their own kombucha! read more

Kaktus is my favorite hangout. I like the atmosphere, the food and the beautiful bartenders. I always feel that I am welcomed there. My favorite beer is the IPA and my favorite pizza is the Spicy Elk Pizza. Kaktus is just a great hangout and the live music they have on Fridays and Saturdays. Had a recent visit to New Mexico and had a lovely time at Kaktus. It really is like a Cheers kind of place. Had brewed on site kombucha, pizza (vegan), and salad --all were very tasty. Met the brewer Michael W who couldn't be more open and friendly. We also saw some really lovely and unique belly dancing. Very cool experience. I will go back when I am back in NM. read more

I am one for exotic meats and finally tried this place it was totally worth it the bison nachos were great bring someone to share with especially if you plan on trying other foods. The spicy elk pizza is now my favorite pizza. Next time i might try the boar. Great atmosphere on Saturday night live band seemed like a great place for kids too. read more

What a great place. We stayed at the KOA next door bc we saw on a campground forum that they had a brewery next door. We were not disappointed. It's cozy and eclectic- a real experience. We sat at the bar with some "regulars" who invited us right into their conversation. We had a couple beers, which were very good, and a couple glasses of wine, which were fine, but $9.25 per glass. We ordered a pretzel, which was excellent, a pepperoni pizza and a pumpkin red pizza. They were both wonderful. I loved the unique pizza combos they offered. I liked that they made your food right in front of you so you could see the progress (especially when you're starving), but the guy was wearing one glove and using both hands, and touched his face and hair, which I could have done without that. Overall a super cool place- we'll definitely be back. read more

What can I say except for what a great father's day evening. The wife, dog and I arrived between the outside entertainment finishing and the inside belly dancers starting. My first time here so the taster was on the house. I enjoyed each and everyone of the beers. They had a nice local reisling that my wife enjoyed along with a nice cool glass of water for the pup. I had an order of chips and salsa because the wife was a little leary of the duck sausage pizza. The pizza came out a little too dark around the edges and our server said she would make another if we would like. A little too dark for my wife so we had another go into the oven. She left the original for us to eat a little of the sausage off and some of the center that was not too done. The pizza was spot on for a pizza lover. Long story short, make it a point to visit. Good beer, good food, good times. We are visiting from out of town and put Kaktus brewery on our beer trip. The place is nothing fancy to look at but the beer and food is what I came for. First of all, we are from out of town, actually out of state. We were here for the balloon festival, drove to Santa Fe to see a friend, and the only reason we stopped in here and saw this place was because of, Yelp. It's an out-of-the-way place, and they have road construction right now. Once we got here the outside appeared a bit unique, and eclectic, but you know what?....we went ahead and came in. The first thing we noticed was that they use washcloths in the bathroom, the reason being that it's an environmentally friendly place. The owner strives to make it less impact on the environment...the washcloth, they recycle their water, and they use solar panels. Okay you say so what, how's the beer? It's actually delicious. They have a place in Albuquerque as well, but we didn't like the venue there, or the parking. This place is much more interesting, and the owner lives in this town as well. Local owner, local business, and local Brewery. He cares about his product and it shows. I'd recommend it to anyone either local, or from anywhere else. Bianca, the bartender, is extremely interesting, and you'd never guess where she's from. read more

The only good thing about iur visit was the entertainment.(Felix y Los Gatos) The service was non-existent. The server explained she was the only waitress and they had "a new guy" working. I ordered ice tea . Was served a bottle of sweetend Tazo. Yuk!! My friend ordered a porter and was impressed with it. The pretzel was the frozen version from Sam's Club for $5.50. The salad was served with a crappy plastic fork in a crappy plastic basket lined with paper. Bison nachos had hard beans, one little dollop of sour cream. Pure crap. The margherita pissa was fair. Lots of sauce but virtually no cheese. The place has so much potential. Why can't any of these breweries add a few wines to thier menus. Not everyone loves beer. I invited three friends. There were parts of Kaktus that were absolutely phenomenal---great beers! Really thoughtful and good food choices! Here is our disappointment--the owners have obviously put a LOT of thought into an awesome place--from responsible food choices to delicious blends of flavors in foods and drinks to washable towels in the restrooms. Our service, however....servers were nice, but they forgot us. We tried to give our menu with food order as instructed, were told they'd be "right back", we weren't noticed until my beer was gone and we were just going to leave at that. Decided to stay for food since it sounded great and we were hungry. Tables that arrived after us were served--and left--before us. The bison nachos could have been great, but ours were burned on the edges, and the chili picked up that burnt taste. Wonderful dipping sauces on the meat platter. I really liked so much of this place, but was disappointed with the service. Maybe we'll cross our fingers and try another time... read more

Pleasant surprise.! We pulled in road weary, arriving 9:30 PM, from Taos. We noticed the Kaktus Brewing Company poster at the KOA campground and after inquiring was told it was located within walking distance. Sure enough-all you have to do is walk to the right side of the entrance and look for the Christmas lights. Open the gate that says BEER and follow the yellow arrows. Don't worry, just keep walking Then we came around the corner, heard the music , and saw the inviting patio. After ordering the 1492 we were having a difficult time figuring out what else to order, and then we met Dana. After, a couple of back and forth questions, he suggested the bison nachos. We opted for the patio seating. They offer free "beer cozy's" (fleece blankets) which was nice because it was probably in the 30's. The patio however, was toasty warm and we didn't need them. After a few minutes, Dana brought our food to us and everything tastes excellent. As a side note, Dana (turns out he is one of the owners!) was nice enough to give us some excellent suggestions for our itinerary In Albuquerque the next day. He even went so far as to draw us a map! We were able to get excellent coffee at "The Range" (separate review) and then drive in to old town via 423 and Rio Grande road-much more enjoyable than I-25 would have been! Great brewery with a friendly staff. We discovered this place while camping at the KOA next door. There is a fun little passage way from the campground to the brewery cut into the campground perimeter fence. A fun little touch that matches up with the rest of the experience you're likely to have here. read more

Went to lunch on Wednesday, had a beer and the meat sampler, all good. The beer was a wheat (they brew all their drafts) and quite tasty. The meal was 4 sausages (made to order for the brewery-spicy elk, tasty wild boar, flavorful duck (with cilantro) and smooth beef-three dipping sauces, chips and sauerkraut. The owners have it together out there-the food is made with care (no MSG) and highest quality-the bar and inside dining is comfy and relaxed, the outdoor area is fun and funky and the patrons are friendly. They have good plans to continue growing and making things even better. I was impressed! read more

We moved to NM in January and had this place on the radar before that since we enjoyed going to craft breweries in Texas, but we finally got around to trying it out at the end of August. Wow! Don't hesitate for your visit. We had a great time on a Sunday afternoon, laughed, talked and tried all the beer on tap and the meat sampler and nachos. The atmosphere is super casual, funky and comfortable for all types of personalities, even overeducated, older, imported exotics like us. There were quite a few customers and I could imagine that it's a pretty nice place to meet people and be social, though we sat at a nice intimate table for two. Everything was excellent and the prices are very affordable. Each beer has unique appeal. I loved the basil, it was like nothing I have ever tasted and we enjoyed the contrasts, they are all really good and ahh, Bullseye hit the bullseye. Me and my husband shared a flight of 8 for $8 and then we each chose one beer and ordered a mug each. The food was in a good portion and we loved the different types of sausage in the meat sampler. We left our car at the brewery and took a walk to historic downtown Bernalillo and looked at some interesting shops and sights there before returning for the car. There is plenty of parking space and the owner didn't mind when we asked. The owner, Dana, is friendly and we enjoyed meeting him. We will be back soon. I can't think of any better place for us to celebrate my husband's birthday! read more
