Went to this spot on an early evening weekday with my girlfriend, and had dinner. The service was extremely poor in a non-busy restaurant and had to wait at least 10 minutes for a server to attend to us. We truly did not feel welcome right from the very beginning. Our server was nice, but he did not bring water or chips to our table all evening. We ordered 2 slushy margaritas, loaded carne asada fries, and 2 dinners. Did not receive our drinks until almost 15 minutes after ordering them. The straws were way too short for the margaritas and we could not use them after they were sinking into the drink and ended up level with the rim of the glass. Our dinner was served before our appetizer and we had to ask for it. The loaded carne asada fries was terribly portioned with about 10-12 fries on a big plate. Our server also did not ask if I wanted corn or flour tortillas for my carne asada dinner. At other locations they have always asked before the dinner is served. Our busser was very intrusive, reaching over our table to grab things off the table, never asked if he could take away our plates, and tried to take away half a cup of chimichurri that my girlfriend was still using for her dinner. No apology whatsoever. The dinner did taste good, and that was about the only redeeming quality of the evening. We ordered flan for desert and asked for our check. We were astounded to find that the restaurant was trying to charge full price for our drinks ($16 each), when it was promoted as a happy hour special at $10 each. When we showed this to the manager, he gave an attitude and said, "I'll fix it." Honestly don't understand why we were reprimanded for pointing out a special that the restaurant offers. I spontaneously came in for lunch on a weekday and it wasn't busy. I was enticed in by the sign that featured their lunch specials: entrees that include a drink. After a short wait at the front of the restaurant, I was seated in a booth. The restaurant is quite large. There were other guests there but it was not crowded. The TV screens throughout the restaurant continuously play club music. I chose the chicken fajitas. The fajitas came out very hot. I found the dish overall to be quite salty. For my drink, I chose a Pepsi. The server was helpful and helped me out when I asked for a refill. This restaurant has a bathroom and it's clean. I went back after my meal to wash my hands. I took my best friend to eat here for her birthday on June 30th, 2026. Our server Juan was amazing!! We really liked him. We both got portabello mushroom tacos and it was probably the best thing we ate! I recommend those. I also got a strawberry margarita and it was really yummy. Then we decided to get the Cadillac margarita flight but that was a letdown. It was not that great! My friend didn't like them at all. She ended up asking for a strawberry margarita. Apart from the mushroom tacos we got a platter that comes with a nopal, chorizo, carne asada, pollo asado, avocado, and some jalapenos asados too. The plate comes with salsa and tortillas. That platter was descent but it would have been better if it came in a molcajete like other restaurants. I have to say that I've had better Mexican food at other places. I would give them a 6.5 on that platter but a 10 on the mushroom tacos. The drinks are more of a 5 because in my honest opinion they lack alcohol. I usually get drunk easily and they didn't do anything to get me even buzz. I don't drink often so when I do it gets to me quick. Also, we had an issue with Maribel. Not sure if she's a manager or what but she came up to me to see if I needed anything else while my friend had stepped away. So I asked if they did anything for birthdays and she said yeah do you want a churro or flan for your friend. I said churro, but later on because we are still eating. She said ok and walked away. My wife found a new Taco place. So we tried for lunch on Taco Tuesday. The price is $1.99 per Taco. The size is tiny. They use white corn tortillas even chips. I like yellow corn tortillas. But the flavors of my crunchy tocos were really good. My wife tested 2 asada soft tacos. She liked the Taco bar, she took lots of toppings including salsa, jalapeño pickles, carrot pickles, cucumbers, chopped onions, lots of chopped cilantro. Unlimited.... First, soft Taco was good, tiny size. We both liked the spicy salsa. Second, my crunchy Taco plate, only 2 tacos w rice, beans. I loved the Spanish rice. It was great. I can come for the rice only. While ordering, he recommended this pink girly alcoholic drink to me, which tasted like strawberries, and it was delicious! While waiting for our food, we were eating chips and salsa that beforehand, and it was really good, so we had to get a second round of it. My boyfriend ordered this blood orange alcoholic drink, and he loved it so much that he got two as well! As for food i ordered the blackened rib eye steak, and it was DELICIOUS. I got medium rare, and it was cooked perfectly. The side dishes that came with it were very good. My boyfriend ordered the Parillada, which comes with shrimp, chicken, beef, sausage, and a few side dishes as well, like rice, beans, veggies, salsa, and tortillas (the tortillas were nice and warm). We were in Downey for an event and decided to stop by Kalaveras Bellflower for a drink and bite to eat afterwards. There is a good sized parking lot located behind the restaurant. The ceilings are black, and it is lit a little dimly including some black lights which really makes the neon signs and bright paint colors inside pop. There are all booths towards the rear entrance, and a mix of tables and booths in front. We sat at a table in front, and over ten minutes had gone by and none of the servers had acknowledged us yet. They just kept walking by, and I finally had to flag somebody down to get menus. We started out with a few cocktails and chips and salsa with an order of guacamole. The chips were good, and the salsa had a smoky flavor. The guacamole was good, but it had large cubes of avocado in it. We both prefer the avocado mashed up well, and we wouldn't order the guacamole again. I had the Jarrito Loko cocktail (Lunazul Reposado, lime, agave, watermelon puree, Jarrito's soda, $14). It comes in a nicely decorated mug with a partial Tajin rim. It had a great watermelon flavor that wasn't overly sweet, and reminded me of a watermelon Jolly Rancher. It was very refreshing, and I didn't notice any carbonation from the soda. It was the best watermelon margarita I've had in a while. She had the El Chamuco cocktail (Los Javis Mezcal, lime, agave, passion fruit, mango puree, $15). - It was mezcal forward and very smoky to me, but the passion fruit and mango flavors help tone it down a bit. She really enjoyed it. I originally wanted to order the Enchiladas de Camaron, but the server informed me that they were out of shrimp. Instead, I ordered the Carne Asada plate ($28). The cut of meat was large and marinated. It had good flavor and was filling. It came with the same chunky guacamole. She wasn't very hungry, and just had the Taquitos Doridos appetizer ($7.99) which she enjoyed. So, why only three stars? We weren't aware, but Sunday evening is Banda Night with live music. After we got our drinks and chips and guacamole, the band started playing and it was insanely loud. Ordering our entrees was almost impossible, and I had to scream at the server so she could hear me. At this point, all we could do is sit and wait for our food because conversation was not an option. We couldn't wait to finish eating and leave. Service got off to a slow start initially, but was ok overall. We enjoyed the food and drinks, but the extremely loud music killed the dinner for us. read more

We had a large party and thankful they can accommodate us on a Sunday afternoon. We started with margarita pitchers. I find the cucumber margarita refreshing and sweet. It seemed like they were able to serve all the taco orders at the same time. However, the lomo saltado took the longest to prepare. Unfortunately, it was a miss and not your typical Peruvian dish. It's a bit more tangy than I'm used to and the fries were soggy. I ordered the ribeye taco, where the ribeye is cooked well and not tender. Disappointed with the way Kalaveras handled my reservation. I reserved a table six days in advance to watch tomorrow's Mexico soccer game. Less than 24 hours before my reservation, I was informed that they would no longer be honoring reservations and that seating would now be first come, first served. What's the point of allowing customers to reserve tables so far in advance if those reservations are going to be canceled at the last minute? Management should have informed customers at least 72 hours in advance. This showed a clear lack of consideration for their customers' time and planning. With the game being tomorrow, it's extremely difficult to find another table for such a popular event. I hope management improves how they handle reservations and communicates policy changes much earlier in the future. Do better, Kalaveras. read more

If I could rate this place zero stars, I absolutely would. This is the second time I've visited this establishment, and once again the service was completely subpar. The first time I brushed it off because I was with friends and didn't want to make a scene. This time I was alone, and the experience was just as bad--so bad that I ended up leaving with nothing more than a complimentary drink instead of a proper meal. Let's be honest about something: the energy here doesn't feel welcoming at all. The racism isn't subtle--it's loud. You can feel it in the way you're treated compared to others around you. And another thing... I have never in my life been to a Mexican restaurant where you have to explicitly request chips and salsa because the staff claims they "don't want to waste food." That makes absolutely no sense. A simple solution would be to ask customers what they want instead of creating an awkward experience. Bellflower location... yeah, that explains a lot. Maybe try moving this same operation to Beverly Hills and see how long that attitude lasts. And just to be clear--I will be back. Not because the service was good, but because no one gets to make me feel uncomfortable in a place open to the public. No one can move me. So here's some advice: get your establishment together ASAP. Checked out this location in Bellflower for the first time yesterday. Ordered some quesa birria tacos, it comes with 3 tacos, consumme, some garnishes, and some spicy yellow salsa. The Birria tacos were delicious, super tasty, loaded with flavors, and they were generous with the protein. We did get some free chips and salsa. The Salsa and chips tasted fresh and made in house. Service was great, our sever was great. She as super nice, friendly and helpful. Recommended her favorites. I have mix feelings about the ambiance... I think the music was blasting way too loud. It was hard to have a conversation over the loud music they were playing. Then I guess there were a few birthday celebrations so the servers help celebrate the birthday so they come out making a ton of noise. I do enjoy the ambiance and the variety of drinks and food. I do like all the decor. Some of it is very random and interesting. But one thing I must say is that I wish they would do a sound check. It seems the it is all treble no bass. Sound needs to be equalized I wish they would give him feedback. You can't even hear your self think or hear any conversation. Racist Ass Manager I am writing to formally express my disappointment regarding the treatment I have received from a manager at your Bellflower location on multiple occasions. As a customer who has visited your restaurant several times, particularly for Taco Tuesday, I expected a welcoming and professional experience. Unfortunately, that has not been the case. Most recently, during my visit on June 2, 2026, I approached the salsa bar and politely asked the manager which salsa was the sweet one. I explained that I had tried it before and wanted to avoid selecting it again because it was not to my liking. Instead of assisting me, he repeatedly stated that there was no sweet salsa. When I explained that I had visited several times and was confident one of the salsas had a noticeably sweet flavor, he dismissed my comment and walked away while I was still speaking and attempting to ask a follow-up question. This was not an isolated incident. On a previous Taco Tuesday visit, my party had been waiting an extended period for service, so I approached the bar to order drinks. The same manager told me that I could not order at the bar and needed to remain seated and order through my server. While I understand restaurants may have service policies, the manner in which he communicated with me was dismissive, rude, and unprofessional. What concerns me most is not the policy itself, but the repeated lack of courtesy and respect shown to paying customers. I have visited your establishment multiple times and have consistently felt unwelcome during interactions with this manager. As a result of these experiences, I do not plan on returning to the Bellflower location. read more

He kept calling me poncha, and was literally talking shit to me in Spanish as he took my order! I felt compelled to order in Spanish because he was insulting me so bad over time looking white. His name was Juan and he had curly black hair. As someone who works in restaurants, I can't believe a restaurant has employed someone like this. It was unbelievably offensive. I would have reported him to a manager, but there was none to be seen in the two and a half hours that we were there. The place says they close late, but they were putting up chairs around us before 11pm. It says online that there's dancing, which is another lie. There's not even a dance floor. Reggaeton music was good, but it's definitely a restaurant not a club. In two and a half hours, Juan checked on us once. Another time he walked down the aisle talking on his phone. The food was bland. They do not have salt on the table, only packets. That would have been ok if our waiter had come by to check on us so I could ask for salt. Don't come here with the intention of dancing, or eating food with flavor. And definitely don't come here if you're a white looking Hispanic and want to be insulted.
