I hear that this place can be very crowded so it is best to call ahead and reserve if you can. We we got there though, there was plenty of room, but they did indicate which tables were reserved and at what times. For my drink, I ordered the Parliament mule which consisted of vodka, ginger, and I think bitter orange? It was very tasty and refreshing. Reminded me of a mimosa but with a vodka kick! For our appetizer, we shared a plate of pickled vegetables and we also nibbled on fresh bread and dip (on the house!). The pickled vegetables assortment was pretty interesting. There were not just cucumbers in the mix but also little squash veggies and tomatoes as well. It was a great start to the meal. My friend mentioned that you usually start with the pickled vegetables and shots of vodka. I think that sounds better so I might try that next time! :) For my entree, I ordered the mixed plate of pierogis. It comes with 8 pirerogis (mix of vegetable and meat ones) and some sour cream sauce for dipping. I was a little bit scared 8 pieces would not be enough but the pieces are packed with vegetable and meat fillings so yeah in the end... I was happy and full! It's a great spot for dinner and drinks as they have their own spin on cocktails and the classic choices for your beers. The food is all really great and reasonably priced! We've been in the "Teigtasche" for the first time. But I definitely want to come back again. When you enter the restaurant it already looks and feels quite snug and welcoming. The filled pastries tasted almost like the Pelmeni and Vareniki my mum and grandma's used to make in my childhood. Very delicious. They offer a huge variety of dishes and self-made liquors. The restaurant is actually on the bottom floor of a huge soviet-eqsue block of flats, we seems quite appropriate. Stepping inside, we were greeted by an elderly Russian man with a laptop, who was singing karaoke love songs for us all night (towards the end, he stepped up a gear into disco tunes). The decor varied between vaguely normal and really quite odd, all while maintaining a distinct whiff of the 90s. According to my Russian friends, restaurants like this don't actually exist in Russia, except as mob hangouts(!) Anyway they have Russian beer, which was quite decent. I forget the name (something starting with a B), but it came in three flavours, originally titled 3, 5 and 7. Handily, this is an indication on how close to a standard pilsner they taste, with 3 being the closest and 7 the furthest away. The food was pretty good. I had Borsch soup for a starter, followed by Pilmeni. Friends had Schaschlik, which was also pretty good. It's not cheap though, with the main courses coming in at around EUR11-EUR20. Overall, if you want Russian food, there's not much choice in Hamburg and for any kind of food you could do far worse than trying Baku. It's weirdness has a certain charm.
