This is a review for the playground portion of Yano Hall, which is also a social hall, baseball…read morefield, basketball court and community center. Having a toddler means hearing "let's go swing" almost every day. Yano Hall happens to be the closest one to my house. A stones throw away from Manago Hotel (go eat there!), this playground is perfect for my two year old. Properly enclosed with a gate, you walk in and see swings, both traditional as well as the bigger round ones for the younger kids (to sit inside). There is also the big plastic/metal playground kids can climb up/on, as well as slides. There is a big one for older kids, as well as a separate smaller ones for the younger keiki. In addition to the playground, there is a covered pavilion as well, so enough space for parents to put their things, as well as get some shade. It's a great place to eat a snack while playing. The playground is fenced in, so no worries of kids running off easily, and there are water fountains and bathrooms as well. The playground is hardly ever crowded, and my child has a ton of fun there. I am very appreciative this place exists, as it gives us somewhere to go have fun and be active.

If you're in Hawi or Kapa'au, make this little detour to spend a short time at the well-designed (and free) outdoor exhibits about the native birds, then go into the gift shop and find something lovely that also supports the mission of this wonderful non-profit organization! We enjoyed our brief visit very much.
