I had a brötchen and a croissant, and my husband had a mini pizza and a croissant, and everything was delicious! We were there around 11 AM, so we didn't expect all the breads to still be so fresh. It's not a chain bakery, and it's probably more meant to be for locals, but we had a great experience. Service was friendly and attentive, and the breakfast is still one of the best we've had on our trip. Definitely recommend!

I decided to get one because the pastries looked so good and sweet. This location has a sit down area inside as well as an exterior takeaway counter. It took a little while to jostle the crowds to order (and busy locals had no problem shoving in front of us tourists), but eventually we were able to place our order. The staff here isn't the friendliest around, and the woman behind the counter's tone quickly changed when she learned that we weren't from Germany. No matter, I really wanted that pastry! Behind the counter you could see lots of tasty looking pastries, breads, pretzels, rolls, cakes, pies, and sandwiches. You could easily make a quick, filling, and affordable meal here. Prices were reasonable (my donut was less than a dollar). Inside, you can also get coffee and espresso-based beverages. I wouldn't go out of my way to stop here again, but it was a great detour for a bit of afternoon pick-me-up energy.

We visited this bakery twice when in Köln. We would have visited again on our last morning except…read morethat our train left before the opening. For breakfast, my husband and I split a delicious smoked salmon and egg sandwich and shared some pastries. He loves any custard filled pastry and enjoyed that. The staff's English was limited, and our German was limited, but we managed to place our orders and pay with no problems. The bakery is small but has several places to sit with comfortable tables and chairs and a beautiful view of the streets of Köln.

I love that cakes here aren't cakes like back home which is iced and sugar high (there are times when that works and other times when it doesn't) I prefer the German idea of cakes always! It has both indoor and outdoor seating. Smoking is allowed outside, in a designated area. The food here is very good. But where Café Reichard excels, is at their dessert. The four of us descended upon Café Reichard, after a long and enjoyable afternoon visiting the cathedral. It was magnificent experience, see review and photos. Since it looked like rain, we decided to sit at a covered table. We decided to try a little bit of this and that. But first, we needed some strong German Kaffee to get our motors going again. LOL As I said, I went with the Apfelpfannkuchen €12,60 (see photo). While others tried the Schnitzel und Kartoffel €27,10, Ofenfrische Heidekartoffel mit Kräuterrahm, or Turkey with a Baked Potato.
