Be aware if you use card, the owner put a 40% automatic gratuity and doesn't give receipts. We happen to look at her iPad saw the total and it was way off original total and she said it automatically does that. No gloves to make the doubles I then looked in back and she had raw chicken on counter with a knife was on cutting it before we came in. I'm not sure I will eat what I got. Store has no working A/C. Owner is NOT welcoming, rude all 3 times I've gone in 3 years. Its conveniently close to home, however, this will be the absolute last time I step foot in this restaurant. This past visit I refused to order after the owner was rude and unprofessional with me... I don't know what's worse, that she said "MY customers order before they come" or that on previous visits she's annoyed if I pay with a credit card. So many strikes, I really don't know how this shop is still open. The food is far better elsewhere. I would give 0 stars if allowed. read more

After getting our taxes done, we walked down to this shop. This is one of those stores a local runs and provides services based on their native customs. All that to say expect a different level of service. If you have traveled internationally, you know that less touristy places that do not cater to Americans are usually the most authentic and worth visiting. The other reviews rated this place down for no AC and the wait. I rated this place based on those factors too. Let's talk about it. First time here, and we really enjoyed the food. My husband is from the same country and told me the food is excellent and authentic. I really appreciated the cleanliness of the location too. Food Pholouri 12 pieces of soft deep-fried dough. Reminds me a bit of Brazilian cheese bread. Boneless Chicken, something I forgot. Roti dough is similar to naan bread and pita bread. Comes with soft chicken breast chunks and chickpeas mixture inside a soft roti. Made fresh, and it was delicious. The owner sat and chatted with us, and we learned a lot about her and her family. Made Fresh She makes everything fresh and on the stop to ensure the highest quality. Her menu is simple, only a few items, and she wants to make them fresh, which at times means it will take a minute. Spicy level? She only adds spicy if you want it. She makes it without because it is easier to add than to remove the spicy level. No AC Her husband passed a few years ago from living in the cold. They spent their last few years together in South Florida. The weather is similar to her hometown, so she doesn't turn on the AC. The fans blow, and it is cool enough. If you go in with the right expectations, it is enjoyable. Tipping Also, she didn't allow us to tip when we paid. She clicked no tip and gave us our receipt. Overall, it was a lovely experience, and it might not be ideal for visiting on a really hot, busy day. Still, any other day I say give it a go. I would give this restaurant a 0 rating if there was one. It was a Saturday and my husband and I decided to order takeout. We were so happy to discover a Trinidadian restaurant close by, so without knowing what we were in for, we ordered 1 duck roti, 1 shrimp roti for me (I don't eat meat), two roti skins and two doubles. First disappointment came when we tore the roti. The texture was stiff and there were some little black things in it (hopefully some type of seasoning, but we'd never seen that before). I dipped my roti into the shrimp curry. Shrimps were the smallest I'd ever seen, and it tasted sweet. Who puts sugar in curry? My husband was equally disappointed with his duck and after a few attempts at eating, we decided to dump everything. Final disappointment came when we checked our account online and saw the woman charged $66.00 instead of the $49 she told my husband. I was craving some doubles and didn't want to drive out of my way to get them so I called this place. Some how the call was disconnected (red flag #1) but the owner called me back. I placed an order for 6 doubles. When I arrived the owner was in the kitchen preparing the food. The front door was open and there was no a/c on just fans blowing hot air red flag #2). She greeted me and I waited for my order. After about 10 minutes she said "I don't make it ahead I make them fresh" (red flag #3), why did she feel the need to tell me this. There wasn't anyone else in the restaurant so I waited patiently. Finally she brought the food to me. I was holding my debit card and she asked me if I didn't have cash (red flag #4). I paid for it using my card and left. Something told me they weren't going to satisfy my craving and my intuition was so right! I tasted one and immediately was disappointed. I've had good flavorful doubles from various restaurants, this was very sub par! The shell had a buttery taste and the channa tasted stale, no curry flavor, just gross. read more

Awesome authentic Trinidadian food in a laid back local spot, Kam's is an awesome find for delicious homemade food. I am vegetarian, so I always eat the doubles. I always go there with a carnivorous friend or two, and they swear the curry goat roti. They have a selection of soft drinks, juices, and beers. I usually get a Red Stripe or one of the fresh island juices. I love spice, and they can really spice it up if you ask. My favorite is their hot sauce. If you ask, you can purchase some to go. It is spicy and very flavorful. I wouldn't say this is a spot for a rantic first date, but it is definitely a local treasure for those who like Trini/West Indian food and want to fill their bellies with deliciousness. I am a big fan of Island and Indian food. This place has some best Trinidadian food in the tri-county area. Order the Doubles and Shark & Bake as an appetizer. The Aloo pie is also excellent. I have had both the curry and brown stew chicken. It's not very fancy and there is virtually no advertising but it tastes like a home cooked meal. You will love it. I've never had Roti and more than one person has told me I would love it. I happen to be staying with my uncle and knew I was by MANY places that had roti, or so I thought. I couldn't find the first place, the second place said they had roti on yelp... They did not.. The third place, the same... I was tired, I was hungry and was about to go home... Until, I called Kam. Kam was amazing... She stayed open for me... The food was made fresh right before my eyes and tasted absolutely ridiculously yummy. I highly recommend this place. Sad to say I finally tried my first trini resteraunt that I hated. I ordered 2 doubles for pick up and she's said 20 mins. Got their 25 min later and it looked like she just started making them because I still had to wait. The resteraunt was empty and smelled like a wet dog. I couldn't even finish eating these doubles they were disgusting. The texture was aweful the dumpling was mooshy and the inside had no flavor just looked like pile of mush. I was not aware that in the United States that I would get the "Trini" treatment. If your from the West Indies you know what I am referring to, " white American going into a Trini Roti shop and being charged twice as much as what the regular clients pay." But unfortunately it happened at this restaurant and they tried to say that adding potato to a roti justified charging twice as much. This was brought to the attention of the Better Business Bureau who contacted Kams they agreed to pay back the difference and then never did. read more

Don't eat here! The woman is a crook. She blatantly over charged me on my order only because her business was slow that day. I guess she figured I didn't have sense enough to calculate the order correctly. She insisted that was the amount and I even questioned her twice and she kept at it, so I went with it because I was tired, pregnant, and didn't have the energy. On top of it all, she was sparse with the amount of food she gave. If you had intentions of overcharging you should have at least added in more food. Tasty food, easy to find location with parking and aunty is very friendly. A bit on the expensive side compared to the Roti shops home in NYC ($32 for two shrimp rotis and a couple solo drinks) but I'll definitely be back when I'm in the neighborhood. I have tried quite a few Roti shops since moving From NY. The food is bland and service is very poor. The doubles Is tasteless and the channa was microwaved. I do not recommend this place. Delicious, honest, home made food! Tucked away in a local strip mall between an Indian restaurant and a Hungarian one, it's small and simple. We tried the chicken and goat curry with plain roti, good enough to ask for seconds. Even our fussy kids gobbled it all up, despite this being our first attempt at Trini cuisine. Clean place, quick service, reasonable prices, fresh preparations, definitely something to go visit again soon. It seems to be a one woman show, so keep your expectations real. The food was very fresh, and the smell of the doubles had me drooling on the way home. Next time I will eat in.
