The decor is old wood, fish nets and old German decor. The only thing I would change is the chairs. Although comfortable, they seemed like patio chairs rather than dining room chairs. The servers were some of the kindest we had encountered, so soft and happy to accommodate any requests for drinks and food. Checked on us often and smiled lots. The food was perfect. Husband had the eel, mother-in-law had a fish salad and I had salmon wrapped in filo pastry with a side of squash (special of the day). All presented well and were super tasty. We can't wait to go back. And will bring visitors here when they are in town.

I was worried that the tourist attraction would lack gastronomically. Thankfully, I was wrong. I arrived to find a large tour group dining and only one free table left. Throughout my meal, I witnessed many diners turned away because they were booked up (this was on a Monday night), so make sure to come early or make a reservation. If you want the best view of the nautical decor, reserve a table on the upper level. My drink and food orders were taken promptly even though they were BUSY. I ordered the Rostocker Export draught to start. It was a great pour and went perfectly with my food. I ordered the pumpkin ginger soup and I sat there for 10-15 minutes with my taste buds blown. It was served hot, with dark bread croutons and pumpkin oil. It was smooth but thick and warmed my entire body. I ordered the sauteed herring with potatoes and green beans (Frisch gebratene Ostseeheringe mit deftigen grünen Speckbohnen und Bratkartoffeln) as my entree. I hadn't had a fish with bone-in in a long time, so eating it was a bit of a challenge for me. The flavors were great but the dish overall was a tad heavy. Both the potatoes and green beans are sauteed in bacon grease. I left feeling content and fit in a nice 15-minute walk before getting on the bus back to Berlin. We sat outside in the 'boat', which had a much better atmosphere than the inside. The boat is usually busy but we just waited at the bar for 10 minutes and got a nice table for 6. The price was very reasonable considering the quality of the food and the surroundings. 4 adults main courses and a bottle of wine (€21) and 2 desserts for the kids while we ate our mains €104 for everything. Bargain! It's also a beautiful town but I wouldn't bother with the big wheel next to the restaurant. The view was spectacular but it was €6 each for less than 5 minutes. I suppose it's something that you've just got to do! We were here during an annual festival (late July) which helped with the atmosphere - wonderful party vibe through the whole town.
