Took a weekend trip to Tarpon Springs to visit this state park. Arriving after 9am with only a 20…read moremin wait to enter was great given it's a Sunday in the summer. While it was difficult to find a chair / shade we secured a chair in the sand area. The water was freezing but expected. It was also very relaxing. The wildlife is awesome to see. We got hot dogs, pepperoni pizza, cherry limeade. The lazy river does cost extra but it's worth it, I'd love to return because unfortunately due to inclement weather the water attractions were shut down.

Watching the performers was delightful. Even with the air lines under the water it was amazing to watch. Just being able to keep your eyes open underwater was astounding to me. We even got an extra performance for the Memorial Day holiday with a tribute to our service members. After the show they had a mermaid photo op that was donation based. After the show, I explored the rest of the park. It isn't that large but was a nice area and worth the $13 to get in. They have an area for swimming in part of the springs. I didn't bring my swimsuit but there were many people swimming and having a good time. There are some water slides too. They have a great gift shop. Loved having the opportunity to visit and see an iconic spot for mermaid lovers!

And from the staff to the dock hands, to the quality of the vessel and cleanliness of the shop: 10/10. A guide handed us a laminated map (nice touch) and told us where to head for manatee sightings. And even pointed us to a cove that homes a lot of turtles and alligators. We saw it all! They have volunteers overseeing the 3 sisters springs, to help monitor the safety of the manatees (and scold ignorant people lol). Great time! If you're unsure, let me assure you.. just book.

Hudson Grotto is a prehistoric limestone sink. It is brackish waters so, part fresh, part salt. There are several resident turtles and, though not seen during my visit, I understand that a barracuda also calls this site his home. If you are thinking this is a site where you can go and explore with crystal clear waters, you would be mistaken. Because of the make-up of the water and surrounding trees, the water is brown and visibility is only about 10 ft. That being said, it is an excellent location for training dives such as Stress and Rescue, Deep and Night/Limited visibility. Below 20 ft, you really need to have a flashlight. It gets very dark very quickly. The site has several things to explore, including a bus, statues and the limestone formations. This location is also very deep (beyond recreational limits) so be sure to only dive within your training and limitations. I will say that the site is very well maintained. There is a sheter with several picnic tables to put together your gear. There are no showers/bathroom but a port-a-potty is onsite. There is a dive shop across the street for you to check in and purchase that flashlight :) There is also a fire pit, if one wants to build a fire and cook some hotdogs. There are a few parking places inside the gate (4 or 5)- otherwise plan to park at the Scuba shop across the street or on the street itself. Overall, I gave the site a 3 star simply because of the visibility and the smell of my gear after getting out of the water which is no fault of anyone. It is truly a great place to do some advanced scuba classes.

It is a dirty scum pond with zero visibility below 40 feet. There are platforms at various levels…read more It's 110 feet deep supposedly. A few freshwater fish. If there is ANYPLACE else for you to dive I would go.
