We booked Karen for our wedding a few weeks back. I appreciated how easy it was to communicate with her via Yelp messaging. We verbally set up the hours and agreed to add more time if we decided we needed it. The day of the wedding, she arrived on time with her own little set up and asked to be placed away from any loudspeakers. That was easy enough. While most of my guests seemed to enjoy having their caricatures drawn, I did have a few people tell me that that they wished were given instruction or maybe even just greeted so they knew it was their turn. I booked Karen about two months in advance of my son's birthday party, where the caricature artist was to play a role in a "mystery," as it was a detective party (she was going to do caricatures and face paint and draw the suspect for the party goers). We were particularly excited since she also does face painting. She was lovely via phone, very professional, and I called her again about two weeks before the party to go over the details and re-confirm. So imagine my shock when I received a text message about less than a week before the party telling me she had accidentally written the wrong date in for our party (in which case, how did she know the correct date) and explaining that she had a "once in 20 years family reunion booked for the same day." She gave me the number for a backup caricature artist and said he was great and that she had already worked it out with him to work our party at her same price (even though it wasn't clear that he also did face painting." I immediately called her backup and left a message to see if we could speak over the phone to confirm and go over party details, and the person she suggested didn't return my call. She then texted me the next day to tell me that he had been booked somewhere else for the day of our party (in which case, why did she make the arrangements with him). She then gave me the number of a second caricature artist. I called him and spoke with him, and he was willing to do our party, but he didn't provide me with a link to his work, he didn't face paint, and he sounded sort of lackluster and slow so I canceled and booked a different caricature artist altogether (I was worried that he might not show up). THANK GOD, that I found someone available on such short notice (less than a week before our party). So in summary, she did try to fix the problem she created, we were put in a bind and lost money because we had to book someone last minute on Labor Day weekend, so I just can't recommend her to anyone because we did due diligence on our end of things, and she really let us down. She confirmed the date with me via yelp message, text message, and two phone calls, so it was quite surprising and very disappointing when she only realized on 8/29 that our party was on 9/3. read more

Karen was an excellent addition to our wedding reception. She always had a line due to the popularity of her services. She is a very talented artist and my family and friends kept her busy through the night. My wife and I requested a drawing of us and our dog prior to our event, so we can display her artwork and to inform people that she was going to be there. I think that really helped out. I'd Give a Zero if I could. Karen left due to being told by security she couldn't be there due to it being a private party. Karen left. I IMMEDIATELY tried calling Karen once I heard about mishap. She refused to answer so I could clear things up. Then I see she emailed me saying she couldn't return because of how security spoke to her. First, be professional and an adult -not a docile child. Tell security you are a hired Vendor which they knew you were coming and the wedding coordinator. The issue was you looked like a hobo wearing a raider shirt and shorts to a wedding so security said they couldn't believe a pro could come like that to an event such as a wedding. From security POV they didn't want to let a transient crash a wedding. They thought they were fighting crime. I hope you can see that. We hired you based on your reviews and you leave us hanging on a once in a lifetime opportunity that we wanted for our guests to have a cool parting gift. Thanks for nada. DONT HIRE THIS LADY. I should of just got the lame photo booth. It would of been there and dressed for the occasion. read more

I first met the wonderful Karen Doyle at the San Diego County Fair where she gave me the prettiest flower face painting that started on my forehead and swirled down around my eye. I loved it so much that I didn't want to wash it off!!! As I walked around the fair that day I got compliment after compliment on my adorable face painting! Such a fun experience! I also noticed while she was doing my face that she was using a very high quality hollywood makeup paint, very impressive! Most face painters that I have seen just use regular acrylic paint... probably not too good for skin. I loved her work so much that I ended up asking if she could come and do face paintings and caricatures at my little sisters graduation party this year! She was a hit!!! Highlight of the party for sure. She arrived right on time and immediately had a line building up for both face paintings and caricatures! I really loved that she switched off between the two because it kept all the party guests entertained regardless of age, the younger ones all wanted face paintings (along with some high school girls who got similar flower face paintings to the one that I got at the fair) and the adults were all loving the awesome caricature work! I had Karen come to my 8 year old daughters party this weekend, now before I say anything let me note that I have been hiring party services for my daughter's birthday's for the past 3 or so years. This has included caricature artists, clowns, face painters, bouncies and many more, but Karen has been the only one that saved me money because she offered dual services- caricatures, and face painting, for like $10 more. I was weary about artistic ability when getting face painters or caricature artists, because I had been disappointed before, but I was reassured when I saw that she listed other art she did on her website and a lot of it was very well done! In terms of interactions with kids, she was amazing (she should be a school teacher!), and she was very personable and engaging with the adults at the party, during the caricature drawing process. Though that was never a real problem as Karen was prompt in all aspects, having arrived early to the party (despite us being pretty far from North Hollywood) and keeping any line that she did have, moving quickly. I know I'll definitely be having her back next year, thanks Karen! read more
