I would NOT trust this physician to perform additional surgery on me after my experience and my friend's experience with her. After my C-section, I presented with severe abdominal and vaginal pain. She was rude and nasty and stated surgery didn't cause any of my symptoms. I had severe undiagnosed endometriosis at the time and didn't even know it. She recommended I have my cervix out without any explanation as to why she was recommending that type of surgery. What physician tells you to move forward with removing an organ without an explanation? The doctor who assisted her during surgery is nowhere to be found. Her office has stated the doctor decided not to practice anymore. Now I have to have endometrial tissue removed from my C-section scar among a whole host of other issues due to this physician completely dismissing my symptoms. My girlfriend had a C-section with this same doctor and has permanent damage between her vaginal area and rectum. read more

I felt relaxed and heard by Dr Kohatsu. She did a thorough exam and we made plans to do a couple things. DEXA and a biopsy. Once she left the room, the Assistant was very rude when I had questions as if she was too busy to make sure I was clear. She gave me a copy of orders and a location to take the papers. Then she said she'll call me to schedule for biopsy appt. Then ignored me. no big deal, I called to find out that radiology didn't have the machine for DEXA. I messaged Dr Kohatsu on the portal about the machine not there. Asked if there was another place. The Assistant messaged me back telling me to find a location and let them know. I called my insurance for a location a few days later I received info. So, I sent the info on the portal. Then I get a message from Jaynie telling me to get a fax number. I said please feel free to call and get it, I was currently dealing with cardiology appts for surgery next week. If she could get the info I'd appreciate it. She messaged me again telling me to get the fax and get back with them. That was a First time an assistant refused to assist. I just called my primary care doctor and asked if he could order the DEXA and gave him the info the insurance gave me. In 1 hour, I was being called by the imaging center to schedule appt. Why this assistant couldn't do that I don't know, but I'm not going to fight with her just to see Kohatsu. New Gynecologist for me. read more

Dr. Kohatsu performed my baby's circumcision. If I wasn't physically in the room and hadn't witnessed it myself, I would say my husband was lying but my baby literally fell asleep during the procedure and only cried when he pooped beforehand and we had to change his diaper. Dr. Kohatsu was extremely gentle and kind and we appreciated that she took the time to explain everything she was doing. The technique she uses resulted in no bleeding and no need to keep the wound covered in ointment as we needed to with my other child. Finding a doctor who does circumcisions is hard enough these days and you definitely don't want to just go to anybody. The experience with Dr. Kohatsu was so nice that I have subsequently gone to see her for my own OBGYN needs. To not have your newborn cry during a procedure like this speaks for itself. I got my face lasered with Dr. Kohatsu a couple weeks ago and I love my results! The first step is numbing and they do a good job numbing you up so when I went to do the laser, it was very tolerable. So, no worries if you are worried about it hurting. Immediately after, my face was red, but it went away within the week. My face afterward looks amazing. When I had a bare face, it looked like my skin had foundation on it. I noticed my pores were smaller and less visible. The texture of my skin was softened and my skin looked incredibly clear. Back in May 2022 I called to make an appointment due to some severe pain bleeding and gyno related issues and before I even stepped foot in the office Karen and her wonderful team set me up with a pelvic ultrasound and bloodwork. My blood work revealed I was chronically anemic due to my monthly cycle. Therefore the best treatment was 2 cycles of iron infusion which I didn't even know existed. Once all the data was reviewed Karen patiently listened to my concerns she didn't pressure me but she informed me of my options. I had no interest in an IUD, but I had researched the estrogen free birth control which is called SLYND and it's the only thing that has alleviated my monthly issues. Additionally, when my insurance was taking forever to cover the prescription Jaimie at Karen's offices helped me obtain more samples until my Prior authorization can be processed. Im so glad this office knows what they are doing and are so kind and helpful while I've been feeling terrible. My energy is starting to come back and my body is getting the time it needs to build up my iron. So yes I would definitely recommend them to any friends or family! read more

After recent surgery, I have been to Dr Kohatsu's office for a series of treatments utilizing the BTL EMSELLA, a new and unique treatment for in continence which is a typical issue following prostate surgery. I had a great experience and I hope that everyone finds this place for Coolsculpting. They had an open house and I got a great deal. I trust the staff and they are super friendly. The drive from downtown is not bad if you take the express lane. Parking is easy in the garage. I was very comfortable during my treatment and I like my results. The nurse took the time to explain everything to me and also helped me find all of the spots that could be treated. It is hard to see your own back. Dr. Kohatsu was the most professional medical doctor and physician I have ever had the pleasure of meeting in my life. My wife and I had to be rushed to the hospital after our birthing plan went haywire and Dr. Kohatsu and her entire staff and team of medical professionals and nurses met us immediately at the front door of the ER. They rushed us up to the delivery room and immediately began to assist with our birth in a cool, calm, collective manner. All of them knowing their exact roles and playing them perfectly. Dr. Kohatsu knew how to command the delivery and operating room as a general commands his men in war. After a successfull delivery and the birth of our first child we were all very emotional. Dr. Kohatsu and her team stayed with us for hours, talked with us, cried with us, prayed with us, comforted us, assured us, cared for us, hugged us, and continued care for us for months. I couldn't imagine the birth of our firstborn any other way. She and they have all truly made an everlasting impression in our minds and will be forever remembered and loved by us for saving our birth and lives, making it so much more worth living and forever being in their debt and being grateful to them for all they did for us that day. During my first pregnancy I met with a few different OBs to find one that would support co-care (w/ a midwife) and honor my right to informed consent. After meeting with a couple of different OBs, I was starting to think I wouldn't be able to find a doctor that supported my goals and plans for this birth. Finally, someone suggested I call Dr. Kohatsu's office as she does support co-care. So, I called them and they confirmed she has no problem with that. I then waited five weeks to see her, and my husband and I were excited when the day finally arrived. We walked into her office, and noticed there was nothing about childbirth in the waiting room, instead it was all vaginal rejuvenation and cosmetic ads. When we finally met with the doctor, she spoke to us in such a condescending manner that we were immediately put off by her. She said she would NOT support co-care and suggested that we were "crazy" for pursuing care outside of the traditional medical model. She even tried to convince us to deliver at a hospital outside of my medical network because that's where she would be at the time. My husband and I are open to dialogue and answering questions regarding the care we are seeking, however, the way Dr. Kohatsu approached us made us feel like she was talking down to us and as though she was quizzing us rather than having a healthy discussion. Dr. CutsYou, if you happen to read this, thank you. Thank you for turning us away from your model of care. You really helped us cement our goals and desires with this pregnancy and birth, and because of your poor bedside manner I decided to birth our son at home with our midwife present. We had a healthy baby boy in the comfort and safety of our own home, with zero complications, in eight hours. And no, I do not believe we just got "lucky" as you might say. Based on our conversation with you, I firmly believe that you would have pushed for interventions which would have resulted in complications, which you would have then treated. I transferred to her during my first pregnancy after another doctor wasn't giving me time in my appointments or having her office return my calls when I was having complications. Dr. Kohatsu was a breath of fresh air. She was always friendly during prenatal appointments and gave me her full attention. She never cut appointments short. She proved herself a good listener by remembering personal details about me and my family at each appointment. I suffered a miscarriage, and she was very empathetic in her communication with me. She gave me her personal recommendations for moving forward based on experiences in her own pregnancies. During the births of my children, she was calm and in control, making me feel more comfortable. For the birth of my second child, there were complications during labor, and she stayed at the hospital for hours late at night before I was ready to deliver to make sure that I was okay. Dr. Kohatsu is a truly wonderful OBGYN and I recommend her 100% to any woman looking for a doctor in the San Diego area. What makes her different from most other OBGYNs is that she is completely unprejudiced when it comes to a woman's right to choose what happens to her body. I was 24 years old with 0 children when I went to her to get my tubes tied. She asked me if I was completely sure of my decision, I said yes, and that was it. She believed me when I told her I have no desire to give birth, never have and never will. Most OBGYNs will refuse to give young women/ women with no children a tubal ligation, because they are "sure" that you will change your mind in the future. Dr. Kohatsu does not assume she knows you more than you know yourself, nor will she discriminate against you for being young and/or childless. Instead, she will treat you like an adult with the compassion and professionalism that all doctors should possess. I will forever be grateful for the care she has provided for me. read more

5+ Stars for Dr.Kohatsu she is seriously amazing! She is very attentive, she genuinely listens to her clients/patients and she truly is interested in the health and well being of the mother and baby. This was my 3rd child and compared to any other OB I've seen, it's more than just a job to her, she actually listens and cares. She understands that most women know their bodies and she takes your concerns seriously. She's kind and has very good bed side manner. I am so grateful for her she decided to induce my labor 2 weeks early because she listened to my concerns and followed up by checking only to notice 2 major complications and decided to induce that day... I'm so thankful she did and our precious baby girl is healthy. But in all that greatness, there is one draw back..... I have to say Negative Stars for her Nurse!!! Her nurse is Awful! Dreadful!!! Rude!!! She doesn't listen at all! In fact she couldn't even read my name correctly off the chart, seriously every single time!!! Not once did she get it right! She always called me the wrong name, she was always on my case about something... Honestly she seems like she's on a power trip because she knows Dr. Kohatsu is amazing and has a great reputation and she must think that she's the same but she is awful. I think she needs a good dose of how to be humble and proper bed side etiquette. When you're in the field of dealing with pregnant women, you need to know how to care for them all around!
