I rarely write reviews. However I was so impressed with Dr. Schiltz and her team at Golden State Neuropsychology I decided to. We had been trying to figure out what was going with our child for two years. We tried to do partial assessments in order to save money, but ended up spending more and never receiving a complete picture. After being referred to Dr. Schiltz we FINALLY had found someone who gave us the answers we needed. We received a comprehensive report which was explained to us in great detail, so we were able to get the appropriate help and treatment for our son. Also, their Golden Retriever Conor was the sweetest addition to the office. My son was always so excited to go and visit their sweet dog! read more

We brought our daughter to Dr. Schiltz for a special education assessment and paid her well for it. We felt she was thorough. The problem with Dr. Schiltz is that she says one thing but does another. Our difficulty with her began after her initial testing of our daughter. Because we were involved in trying to get funding from LVUSD to send our daughter to a private school, our attorney contacted Dr. Schiltz to ask her to review the private school for an upcoming IEP meeting where she would be presenting her findings. We paid her an amount of $3,450 in addition to the $4,500 we had paid for her initial testing. So far, no problems. She observed our daughter in her private school setting and came to the IEP with us to address the district with her findings. The problem began when our new attorney contacted her and asked her to observe our daughter in the placement that LVUSD was offering. It seems that Dr. Schiltz was perfectly ok with observing our daughter at the private school but would not observe the placement that was being offered by LVUnified. My attorney told us that the only thing she could think of as to why she would not go and observe at the public school was because perhaps Dr. Schiltz was somehow financially involved with LVUSD and did not want to "rock her financial boat". Our attorney had seen this exact thing in another of her cases and felt that this was why it was happening in our case. Dr. Schiltz maintained that she was not a school placement professional and that was why she was not doing the sec ond observation. Then, why, we wanted to know, was she perfectly willing to observe at the private school and take our money? Our attorney asked her if she would be willing to refund some of the funds that had been paid to her and of course, the answer was no. I write this to warn other families about using Dr. Schiltz. I learned a long time ago that you should watch what people do and not listen to what they say. The old adage about actions speak louder than words definitely applies here. We believe that our case was not successful because of Dr. Schiltz's refusal to do the other observation. read more

My daughter was having behavior issues. I couldn't figure out what to do! No matter what, everything was a fight, and she couldn't handle random changes or transitions. A friend of mine had HER son tested by Dr. Schiltz, and she told me how incredible all of the information she got was. And my friend was right! Dr. Schiltz helped me get to the bottom of what was going on with my daughter, and now she's doing SO MUCH BETTER. (Plus, they've got a cute golden retriever in the office, so it was easy to convince my daughter to even walk into the building!) read more

I must say that if you are considering using Dr.Schiltz I would interview a few other people before wasting your time and money. My husband and both felt that all she wanted to talk about were her credentials and her experiences with other clients. Although the staff and she are very friendly, we felt it was a waste of time and got nothing back from all the extensive testing she did. In our case, we found out information that we already knew. At the recommendation of our pediatrician, we used Dr. Schiltz for a nueropsychological evaluation of our son. The evaluation and process were very thorough. A couple of weeks after the evaluation, we met for a post eval meeting to discuss the results, diagnosis and suggested remediation. Dr. Schiltz does not provide remediation services. So, it was nice to know that we were getting a completely unbiased evaluation. One that wasn't being influenced by a company/individual with a vested interest in the remediation services needed and one from an individual that had nothing to gain financially by giving a specific diagnosis for which they would then provide remediation services. She thoroughly explained each diagnosis and the type of specialist needed for each area of remediation. She also helped us prioritize which areas needed the most attention and helped us prioritize which diagnosis to address first. She provided us with names and contact information of specific specialists/providers that specialize in specific areas of our son's diagnosis and were conveniently located to our home. It has been a year since we worked with Dr. Schiltz. She put us on a path and paired us with key specialists that helped our son with his diagnosis and remediation over the 2013/14 school year. He has excelled and is leaps and bounds ahead of where he was this time last year. It has been a blessing to have worked with Dr. Schiltz. We have been happy to refer her to several other families in need, as well. read more

Please do not waste your money or your family's time. All she talked about is her credentials but when it came down to telling us what we should do to help our child she said she "knew" what was wrong but would not tell us until our 3 weeks out "results" meeting. She admitted that after her many years in practice she knew exactly what the issue was but absolutely refused to tell us until we waited her three or more weeks for her results meeting. Also, she admitted that the school district did not like her and that all she would do was to give us phone numbers of other expensive advocates and attorneys and specialists. So she basically charged us over $5,000 for nothing. She is an absolute scam. And the worst kind of scam artist: someone who preys on families with small children who are looking for help. read more

Dr. Schiltz was very caring and helpful. She tested my 8 year old son, as referred by our pediatrician. She was thoughtful and patient with our son, Landon. The dog, Conor, was a real hit with Landon. We weren't nervous. Be prepared to wait two weeks for the neuropsych report. We did not realize it would be so detailed. That's a good thing. I LOVE Dr. Schiltz. Before the assessment I was not thrilled going through another assessment to try to get some accommodations for the SAT and ACT. I was referred to Dr. Schiltz by my pediatrician, Dr. Bromberg, and by my high school counselor. The testing was lengthy but Dr. Schiltz was very kind, friendly, and knew what I have been going through in my life. School is hard and not fun for me. I get good grades but I have to study late till the morning hours. Then, there was her dog, Conor. He made a difference. Bottom line, I got all of the accommodations Dr. Schiltz recommended because I am a very slow reader and I have problems understanding what I read and I can't focus in class. I am also on medication. I was in need of a new neuropsych report for accommodations for the MCAT exam. Karen and her staff were very thorough and worked diligently to provide the best report. After submitting the application to the MCAT review board, I was approved for 1.5x time on the exam, a very difficult accommodation to get (~1% applicants are granted accommodation). read more

My son has seen ten psychologists over the years and no one could figure him out. I was skeptical at first but was impressed by Scott, the office manager. He took his time explaining the process of neuropsychological assessment and answered all of my questions. This is a well-run office, with much care taken to educate me about neuropsychological assessment. Dr. Schiltz DID figure our son out, with assessing him for two sessions, one of which she came in on a Saturday. She was compassionate, kind, and obviously knew what she was doing. We finally have an action plan and my son's school accepted all of the accommodations she recommended. I suggest that you ask Scott and Dr. Schiltz that Conor, the therapy dog, be present at the office. Conor was great and made us all feel comfortable. I was relived because Dr. Schiltz honed in on my son's specific issues and was also able to educate my husband and I about the research and what really needed to be done to help our son.
