A very fitting city for having coffee with desserts and snacks - 2 of 2 Fazer, or Karl Fazer, is one of the best known coffeehouse and dessert places in the Finnish capital. It appears there might be more than one location, with a few being almost too close to each other. I was trying to figure out which one is the main location. Once you find it, you will know that this is the feather in the cap of the Fazer brand. This Fazer coffeehouse is not just about getting something warm to drink and eat. It's an experience. This is a large Art Deco cafe' where they didn't skimp on decking out the exterior and the interior to be true to the genre and, of the places to sit, I wound up seating under a slightly domed glass ceiling that was beautiful, so it was no wonder I gravitated toward that part of the interior. They sell coffee, tea, and cakes, but also have sandwiches, chocolate, candy, and more. There are more bins and shelves with goods than you'd expect in a coffeehouse. They were slightly crowded a little later in the evening, but not excessively so. The service here was a little more curt than that at Roasberg, but they got the job done. I had a slice of berry flavored cake and a cup of decaf coffee since it was a little later in the evening. As soon as I saw Fazer's exterior and went inside, I knew that it would be a little more expensive. It's your job to restrain yourself and not treat it like a restaurant with a series of courses, instead opting for a hot drink and something sweet or savory. If the service was a little more upbeat and the prices were slightly more reasonable, it would get 5 stars from me. However, with what I drank and ate being good and with this being such a unique experience, it easily gets 4 stars. I'd gladly return if in this city again and I recommend visiting this landmark coffeehouse.
The woman who assisted me was beyond sweet and incredibly helpful. I asked for vegan options, and she personally walked me around the store showing me everything from chocolate and jelly beans to pastries, sandwiches, and cake. Please note that they do not carry oat milk version of Karl Fazer chocolatees. I came in around 1000 in the morning, and it wasn't crowded at all. The flagship store is absolutely beautiful. I had a coffee with soy milk that was delicious, and I enjoyed sitting outside while I peoole watched. CC accepted
So much to choose from for anyone looking for that special chocolate purchase for themselves or a gift - and terrific pastry and cakes available as well. This is the main "store" so the ambiance is upbeat, service is kind and patient while you look for your sweet treat and the selection can't be beat!
We had a nice lunch with smoked salmon sandwich, a veggie salad bowl also with smoked salmon plus avocado, pickled onions, quinoa and greens, and pastries including a gluten free donut for me and some really excellent whole seed gluten free bread for my salad. Would definitely come back again.
I passed this Cafe on a tour where it was highlighted-saw how busy it was and thought "I need to check it out." Located in the City Center, they've been around since 1891. They have a mind blowing number of Pastry/Dessert options as well Brunch and Open Sandwiches . Line up with your tray to order from the Buffet. Ice Cream, Wine and Beer are also available. They were busy around 1 on a Tuesday so took a few minutes til a table opened up. I ordered a Cappuccino and, given the time of year, a Christmas Roll. Roll was just right flaky with powdered sugar taking it over the top. Cappuccino was also delicious! Don't forget to browse their Confectionery selection as well wrapped chocolates. Quintessential Cafe experience and a must stop when visiting Helsinki!
This coffee shop and lunch venue is already an institution in the center of Helsinki. Slightly at higher end price-wise, the quality easily compensates the cost. Coffee is tasty and sandwitches and cakes are delicious. This place can occasionally get rather busy and loud, but that is of course a good sign of the quality.

I loved that the cafe has high quality desserts to match the iconic destination as it certainly did not disappoint. They have a wide array of desserts and pastries to choose from daily, and the spacious atmosphere makes it an enjoyable place to tackle those morning emails peacefully. (Geisha: A) - This is an chocolate hazelnut dessert that is as rich as it is beautiful. I appreciated the thoughtful flavor profile that has both a noticeable saltiness and earthiness to help counteract the richness of this piece. (Cafe Latte: A) - This latte was well made as it had the coffee taste without the unpleasant bitterness. The foamed milk is beautifully airated and the latte art is elegant. Date of visit: pretty every day since 8/31 for after dinner desserts Tried several cakes and they're all EXCELLENT! My fave is the passion fruit cheesecake. It's so soft and smooth and I love how the crust is a bit salty to balance out the sweet. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! Other things I tried here were: - blackberry yoghurt cake - Fazer Blue Cake (signature) - Budapest (banana, cream, almond, raspberry jam) - coconut sorbet Would def go back if I ever go to Helsinki again.
I have a confession - I ended up at this place 4 days during my weeklong trip to Helsinki. There are a number of Fazer cafes spread throughout the city but this one claims to be the original location. This store was love at first sight for me with the wide variety of chocolates, fresh baked pastries, cakes, savory treats, and gelato. Everything was perfectly droolworthy and all the items I tasted were simply perfect. Who knew even a simple sweet butter bun could make your tastebuds dance in glee? The Geisha (their hazelnut creme dessert) is a piece of art - I stared at it for a full minute before savoring every last bite of it. And their cheesecakes - the best I've ever had till date I think. Now, I'm back in the U.S. and still savoring all the chocolates I purchased, trying to make them last as long as I can - the classic Fazer milk chocolate is simply unbeatable in terms of its taste and texture.

The pastries and cakes behind the glass cases looked amazing. I went with the raspberry pistachio and hazelnut milk chocolate (Geisha) cakes. Both of them were very sweet. I also ordered an iced geisha latte. I didn't know what to expect, but it came with whipped cream and rolled wafers. It was also very sweet. Afterwards, we shopped around for chocolates to bring back. There is a big selection, so there's something for everyone. The company was founded in Finland in 1891. The chocolate is part of the Finnish cultural heritage.
I think this is the best cafe in Helsinki and the name Fazer is just awesome. When I hear fazer, I think space, and the sign outside looks like it's some futurist space font! Then, you walk in, and it's an elegant cafe, bakery, and chocolate shop that makes you want to try/buy everything. This is a place that you need to come back to again and again to explore everything on their menu and just enjoy the atmosphere.
I came here on 2 separate days. This place is like a Ghirardelli of Finland. Has a nice little cafe and loads of chocolate. You can buy Fazer chocolates, cakes, lunches, salad bar, and coffee. It's a great place to get some work done as well. Shrimp sandwich: The rye bread was cold and on the thicker side. They don't warm it up for you. 3/5 korvapuusti (cinnamon bun): Probably my favorite thing there. Just the right amount of sweetness and has a saltiness to it. 4.5/5 Chocolate cake and latte: nothing special
Such a lovely cafe with wonderful treats! Spotless, bright and cheery. Beautiful array of delicious looking food. We opted for hot chocolate and yummy Finnish cinnamon rolls. I wish I could've brought some home! I miss them so much!! read more

Karl Fazer Cafe is a must visit in Helsinki as it's the first cafe in Finland that Karl Fazer opened, starting the coffee trend for the country, as Finnish people are known to drink some of the most coffee in the world! And Karl Fazer is famous for being a chocolatier, so Fazer chocolate is a must try, too. Fortunately for me, Karl Fazer Cafe was located right across from my hotel, so I had easy access to chocolate and coffee here. The cafe was very popular, and what's nice is that they are open the entire day, serving meals or something lighter. They also have a chocolate shop on one side of the cafe that you can grab and go. For one of my visits here, I tried the geisha dessert, which is a specialty, along with a Fazer mocha. They were both good, and I was pleasantly surprised that the geisha dessert was a mix of chocolate and hazelnut since the lilac color threw me off, so was afraid it would be a fruity dessert. But it turned out to be better than expected. Another visit, I tried the cinnamon bun, which was solid. It wasn't the best in town, but solid - and definitely better than anything I'd ever get back home. If you're in Helsinki, Karl Fazer is a name you'll hear - and you'll need to try the famous chocolate and pay a visit to the first cafe of the country. It's easily walking distance to many sites as it's in the city center, and has outdoor seating. Glad to have checked out a place of Finnish history. read more
Very cute and modern looking cafe. Seating inside and outdoors available. Only a short walk from Hotel Arthur, Scandic Red, and the subway station. When you walk in you are greeted by a display case that shows an array of parties and cake slices. Staff was very friendly. I didn't spend much time browsing as I only had my eye on the prize- passion fruit cheesecake! Unlike an American style cheesecake, this had the texture of a mousse with a thin crust. The passion fruit flavor was lovely and a real treat. Can't wait to go back and try more items. read more

Right in front of the hotel I was staying at in Helsinki was this cafe/ chocolate shop that's supposedly super famous in Finland. We went here on a super busy Sunday morning - they had brunch buffet and all locals and tourists decided to be here. There's this cute little chocolate dome with flower petals on top. Before I could even place my order, the lady behind the counter took the whole tray of the lovely looking chocolate domes - all of the five that were on display. Somebody had purchased the last of the Geisha cakes. So close yet so far away. Instead, I got a sachertorte; a grand blanc (open-faced Sandwich) with goat cheese, pear, walnuts, and beets; a grand blanc with jerk chicken; and a Budapest cake (light meringue cake). Sachertorte: Since their chocolate is kind of a big deal, the sachertorte showcased their chocolate excellence - and I normally don't like chocolate cake. This was a small enough slice so I can actually finish it without a problem. The chocolate top was fantastic and the thin layers of chocolate sponge was delightful. 4/5 Grand Blanc: Between the two kinds of sandwiches tried, I liked the one with walnuts, pear and goat cheese the most. Excellent contrast of colors, textures, and flavors. I wanted another one. 5/5 Budapest Cake: Light meringue cake with fruits rolled in the center. Mildly sweet. 4/5 We came here everyday we were in Helsinki. Some days twice a day. I got my hands on some Geisha cake, a pistachio roll, and lots of chocolates and candies to take home. Geisha Cake: It was everything I had imagined. Chocolate covered hazelnut mousse with a crisp wafer. One if the best desserts I've had. And definitely my favorite in Helsinki. read more
Another stop on our food tour, we were here for the Fazer candies of where there are many. A beautiful window display and then rows upon rows of individually wrapped candies. Stopped by here to have some hot chocolate on a cold day with my boyfriend. Hot chocolate was delicious and came with a little wrapped chocolate, which was honestly arguable better than the hit chocolate -- milky, smooth, melts right in your mouth. Will be back for chocolate next read more
If you've been to Maison Bertaux in London or Pierre Hermé in Paris, then you must be one of those highbrow pastry snobs who want elitist confections with your pinkies-up cup of tea. Obviously you're not like me who searches for half-off, day-old doughnuts in the Safeway bakery bargain bin. OK, I made that up, but hey, if you're in Helsinki looking for a slice of impeccably frosted goodness accompanied by a 4,50 € Hot Chocolate (Kaakao Kermalla) overflowing with fluffy foam drizzled with chocolate syrup (photo: http://bit.ly/1ZHFCAC), then you should check out Karl Frazer Café, an old-fashioned Finnish-Russian cafe that's been around since 1891. Fazer was apparently a true raconteur, and confections were only one of many passions he pursued at the turn of the last century. After being swept by the cold Baltic winds off the harbor, Jamie W. and I walked in here, and the first vivid impression we had was the gigantic, gleaming letters of the sign over the front door (photo: http://bit.ly/1Nre1Tv). Once inside, we saw all the people swarming over the pastries in the glass cases. We took our place in line and indulged in a slice of 6,60 € lighter-than-helium Lemon-Glazed Cheesecake (Kauden Juustokakkupa) (photo: http://bit.ly/1TABfTL) and a couple of 3,80 € Yeast Doughnuts topped with Strawberry (Berliininmunkki) and Mocha (Omarmunkki) frosting respectively (photo: http://bit.ly/23JjK9h). The aforementioned hot chocolate and a 4,40 € Caffe Latte completed the picture. It was a tasty treat in a cavernous space filled with marble and gold. Karl Fazer is the Ghirardelli of Finland. They make the most delicious chocolate and licorice treats so we knew that we had to try the historic cafe during our trip to Helsinki. The cafe has a delicious selection of baked goods, pastries, lunch, coffee & cocoa drinks, and a huge selection of candy. We ordered the classic Swedish style cinnamon bun, Finnish sweet butter bun, latte with oat milk, and hot chocolate. My favorite was the cinnamon bun - this is a must order item! The coffee and hot chocolate were both average but still very good. Pro tip: you can find a lot of specialty candy here that's definitely worth trying, however if go to your local grocery store most of their classic items will be half the price :) read more

I came in for a coffee and a pastry, as is apparently tradition in many of the Nordic countries. I was greeted with a massive light-filled cafeteria filled with different aromas of food, pastries, and coffee. The section just for coffee was quick and had many options for dessert pairings. I had to go with the sachertorte even though in Finland. It certainly did not disappoint. Another HUGE plus was that they had someone playing the piano near the cafe area of the building, and it was such a relaxing slice of the day to sit and drink coffee and listen to classical music being played. I definitely recommend checking out this institution of a place! read more
What a great time! Stopped by for breakfast during our morning in Helsinki. I got the cardamoms twist and my husband got the cream and berry croissant. For our coffee I got an iced vanilla latte and he got a normal hot latte. After some time trying to decide what to choose from all the tasty treats I was very happy with our choices. Staff spoke English when it became obvious through our accents that we were American and were super friendly - she even suggested I add a flavor to my iced latte and I was so happy because I didn't realize that was an option! A tiny chocolate Came with our meals. A great way to start our day. I def recommend eating on the sidewalk too - so pretty! read more

If you love cakes you will not want to leave. Coffee is good, building is very cool old school. Not cheap, but if it was you would get very fat. read more
I had brunch here recently on a Sunday morning with family. It was my first visit, although this Fazer Café is pretty well known around Helsinki. The brunch offering was a pretty typical Finnish spread. Artisan breads, hard boiled eggs, various cold cuts and veggies, cheese, bacon, sausage, gravlax. Drinks were coffee, a few juices, water, and for an additional charge sparkling wine (did not partake myself). They also offered a hearty chicken salad for something on the more filling side. The dessert options were pretty amazing, so save room -- decadent cheesecake and chocolate cake, various chocolates and candies. All in all, it was a positive experience at a fair price and I left satisfied. Lots of families so be prepared for the racket that can entail. Also, the place was packed so expect some queuing and flying elbows. Solid brunch place! read more

This was a really good cafe right down the walkway from our hotel, Hotel Kamp. They had a great soup buffet for lunch. The mushroom soup was memorable even several months later. The nice warm atmosphere and soups were great on a sort of rainy day. However, the bread was to die for and went really well with the soup! Wish we had something like this in San Diego. Definitely go for lunch on a cold day. The coffee is nice too. They have sandwiches and beautiful desserts.well, but we didn't try them. read more
