Solid Ethiopian place in a relatively quiet part of Ottensen. A few tables indoors, and the rest spilling out onto the sidewalk.
The food is pretty tasty, but the host is the real draw. He's super-friendly, welcoming, and also speaks English pretty well.
The menu is short and simple: a three-course Ethiopian menu with the option of a vegetarian or non-vegetarian platter. The main course is a platter of injera (spongy Ethiopian flat bread) topped with various stewed dishes: spinach, potatoes and cabbage, beets, chickpeas, lentils. If you order non-vegetarian, you get a chicken drumstick dish as well. The dessert was a quite good chocolate cake and a small cup of Ethiopian coffee.
Despite having wine in the restaurant's name, I was surprised at how few wine options were available on the menu. That said, I had a glass of Riesling that went nicely with the meal.
The only reason I'm giving four stars (and not five) is that I found the prices to be too high. Maybe I'm used to paying very little for Ethiopian food in the US, but the prix-fixe dinner surprised me at 21 Euro. It's the only Ethiopian restaurant I've visited in Hamburg, so maybe that gives them license to charge whatever they want. read more
