They are kind, knowledgeable, and supportive, but the front office and administrative side has been consistently frustrating. The administrative staff is disorganized and unprofessional. They frequently mix up appointment times, give conflicting information, and make even simple tasks feel unnecessarily difficult. They don't use email or an online portal to send updates, test results, or appointment confirmations, which makes it almost impossible to keep track of anything. Everything has to be done by phone, and the communication is often curt or dismissive. Another major frustration is that any time I need bloodwork, I have to schedule a completely separate appointment with a third-party lab instead of being able to do it in-office. This makes routine prenatal care far more inconvenient than it needs to be. I really wanted to have a good experience here, especially since the clinical care from the midwives has been positive, but the front-office management has caused so much stress and confusion that I'm choosing to switch practices. I hope they improve their administrative processes and communication in the future.

I am so disappointed that i waited this long to switch to her. This is by far the best experience i have EVER had with a dr. She was pleasant, fast but efficient and thorough. She made me fell like i was her ONLY concern in that moment. There was a kind of familiarity to the visit in that it felt like i was not seeing her for the first time but that i had been a long term client. She did not invalidated my feelings or concerns and addressed them kindly even when they were crazy. She also pointed out things that other dr would brush off so i had chosen to not even bring them up for fear that i would be made to feel stupidn again. These same things that she addressed turned out to be real health issues that have gone on to long bc other dr would brush them off. I am so grateful to the care she put into this visit. I Ann starting to find answers to things i have suffered through for the last 4 years. Reason for going: - reg checkup Pros: - i did not wait long - kind - thorough - efficient - fast - approachable - knowledgeable - easy to find - easy parking - free parking - friendly staff - clean - bright and airy - they make every step of the process easy - i found my time to be respected vs wasted (I was out of there with in less than an hour and i was a1st tone patient) Cons: - if you are struggling with infertility or are trying to get pregnant, the wrong room can be overwhelming. there are a lot of couples that are going through all stages of this here and it was a little hard for me. I kept my head down. - elevator got stuck while i was there with someone in it (i had literally just gotten out if it) Tip- Park one block down on brighten (just west of rodeo) free 2 hour parking. :) -

Today my daughter turns 6 months old and she is a Moxie baby thru and thru so today is the perfect…read moretime to write Moxie a review. As a "geriatric" first time mother and woman of color, it was important to me not to be another statistic. I didn't want an unnecessary episitomy, I didn't want a forced cesarean and I didn't want to be forced to endure more pain than I could handle. After doing a lot of research into hospital births, home births, and birth center births, I decided on a birth center. From my first visit to my last, the woman of Moxie hold your hand and never let go. I had a my daughter thru IVF, so after 10 weeks of pregnancy I was discharged to Moxie and I met with the team of midwives from January until my birth in September. At every meeting I was never rushed, every single one of my questions (and since I aggregate data for a living, I had a lot of questions) was answered and I never felt like they spoke down to me (if a doctor of medical professional has ever done it to you, it's not pleasant). From Inez being the only person on the planet to get my blood without leaving me bruises, to sharing a list of resources like where I found our birth doula, Moxie was my partner in my daughter's birth. Cut to week 39 and I'm showing signs of high blood pressure. Bente and the team go thru every option with me and check on me every other day. On one of the days of my check ins, I get up, start having contractions and then go to CVS to get my covid shot because she was going to have all the immunities! We had a meeting at 2 PM and after the normal BP and hooking up baby to a monitor they ask if I want a cervical check just in case. Turns out I'm 7 cm dilated! They text our doula (because they have her number) before we can. From that check to birth, it was only 5 hours. I got to spend that time in the water and on the "dilation station (toilet) and I almost had to go to the hospital because the baby was in distress. The ambulance came but Dr. Bente was able to let me try with her help and after three pushes, my daughter was born. I devleoped a hematoma and we had to go to the hospital for a repair but Dr. Bente has privileges at Huntington and she was able to do the repair there and then checked on me before I was discharged the next day. Having been in a hospital so close to giving birth in the birth center, for me at least the birth center was amazing. Giving birth on a bed, with a tub, not in a sterile room where the bed is maybe the size of a twin bed was amazing. Kate came and was our lactation consultant and she was amazing! She invites you to a monthly Mommmy & Me group around food so that you get a community. After birth, doing our checkups, because these women knew me so well they knew something was wrong and diagnosed me with postpartum anxiety in Week 3, and after that I was able to find a 3 month program. Everyone was so impressed that I was there in week 3 since most people start at 6 months! 6 months of not feeling like yourself for your partner, your baby, for yourself, I can't imagine. It was hard enough for only 3 weeks. And, if that wasn't enough, Maria can help you turn in your superbill to see if you can get any reimbursements because you pay for everything out of pocket first. I can't imagine a better way to bring a child into this world, Moxie woman truly are the most caring, diligent, amazing woman who help you during one of the most vulnerable times of your life.

Moxie went above and beyond my wildest dreams ushering me into motherhood. I could not have asked…read morefor a more compassionate, badass team. I even had a pregnancy complication that put me in the hospital for 8 weeks. I had daily visits from Dr. Kaiser and the rest of the team came weekly to check in on my morale. I never felt like their kindness and outreach was out of obligation, I felt deeply cared for. All of my appointments with them outside of the hospital put my partner and I at ease as first time parents, nothing was off limits to chat about. Having Moxie during the postpartum period was a game changer as it made my postpartum feel less foggy. I loved my birth story and I would do it again. Their team became like family, and I have them to think for a healthy, happy baby + mama.

If you look at my Yelp profile, you will see I have never written a negative review in my life, but…read moremy prenatal appointment with Dr. Lurvey was the most disrespected I have ever felt. After revealing that I was planning a home birth, in the presence of 2 experienced midwives and my partner who's an Emergency Room Doctor, Dr. Lurvey laid out the risks in a manner which could only be described as fear mongering. Going into morbid detail about the possibility of the baby being born with Spina Bifida, and needing immediate neurosurgery to prevent paralysis. Despite the chances of Spina Bifida being slim (1 in 1500), and my taking regular folic acid (reducing the chances by another 70%), and having 0 risk factors, for some reason, she harped on this one possibility to press for a hospital birth, and when I respectfully declined, she snapped, "Ok, so you're willing to paralyze your baby for your own comfort." "YOU'RE WILLING TO PARALYZE YOUR BABY" I was shocked. I understand that many people disagree with home birth, and there is a way to have a respectful discourse about the risks involved, but this was not the way. I was treated like a child, incapable of making my own medical decisions or just too dumb to understand what I was getting myself into. And worse, I was made to feel like a bad mother, when every choice I make is out of love for my son. I left Dr. Lurvey's office in tears, and never went back, finishing my pregnancy without any medical care at all outside of my midwives (birthing a beautiful, healthy baby boy at our home in July) Whether this was due to the fact that Dr. Lurvey simply doesn't respect alternative medicine, doesn't respect black women, doesn't feel the need to do good work if she's not getting paid for the birth, I don't know. What I do know is that women deserve basic human decency, especially in this setting. There are better choices for OB's, Dr's who will treat you like human beings, who will give you a say in your own medical care. Dr's who will treat the process of bringing life into this world with a little more reverence and a little less fear.

Dr. Lurvey now works part time with the Cedars-Sinai group on La Cienega. I saw her because they…read morenow have (every other) Saturday hours (YAAAY!) and she was available. She's great.
