A cute little spot serving berry-themed desserts and selling a wine assortment of jams and preserves. If you are heading north it's a great place to stop and do a bit of shopping. It's pretty small and there's not a whole lot of parking but as we arrived on aa bit of a rainy day, this wasn't an issue. Inside you can taste about 10-15 varieties of jams and preserves and buy other local products like honey and sea salt. You won't spend too long here-maybe 30 minutes. They do have a couple of toilets and a handful of tables if you want to eat your treats there. read more

While on a tour, we made a stop here for what we were told were wonderful jams & amazing teas. The berry jams were quite tasty and the tea was ok but the customer service was horrible! The woman at the counter must hate her life. She was rude and very unfriendly. The woman who came to grab our plates at the end was very nice and raved about Kate but the initial impression was very sour due to the woman who checked us out. By the way- if you sell a low sugar jam and you sell scones with your jams on them- doesn't it make sense to put the jam you sell on your scones? $12 for two scones is quite a but of $$ and Kates would have had a sale or two of low sugar jams had they actually served their jam on the scones. As both a customer and someone who is familiar with business- this makes no sense to me. read more

Delicious pit stop with an amazing view of Freycinet National park! Quite rewarding after finishing up a 3 day hiking and camping adventure in the great wilderness. This little berry farm offers an array of berry jams, wines and treats for purchase and a little cafe with a sweet or savory menu depending on your mood. We were in the berry mood and went for the pancakes and hummelberry pie (which came highly recommended). Halfway through our meal an Asian tour bus arrived (so you know it's good!) This small berry farm is just south of Swansea. The jams and the ice cream were delicious. The ice cream was really great value at just $5 for a cone or cup with 2 scoops, however we thought that everything else - the jams, merchandise and the items on the menu - seemed really expensive. read more

We stopped here mainly because we were tired of driving. We were pleasantly surprised to find the owner and the food really interesting. If you are passing by on the highway, give this little place a try. The Asian pot pie stew with pork was delicious. read more

Great local berry farm with a retail shop containing fresh jams, jellies and homemade ice cream. The setting is gorgeous and the view beautiful. There is a huge selection of jams and we tried a lot of them; they were exceptional in taste, constancy, color and freshness but a tad sweet for my taste. Set atop a tall hill in Swansea, overlooking the water, Kate's is a place you don't want to miss when traveling up Tassie's east coast. I remember coming here as a kid, my eyes wide as Kate would pile the icecream into a cone, and I would look at that tall mound of 5 scoops of icecream and wonder how the heck I was going to eat it all! I still love to stop here and get my homemade berry icecream fix. If it's a nice day, enjoy your icecream outside, taking in the great views. They also have a selection of take home things, such as wine, sauces, and jams. read more

We stopped here 2 days in a row. We were told that the ice cream was "to die for" and followed the advice to indulge. The boysenberry ice cream was the most wonderful flavor, creamy, fresh and the best I have ever tasted! I recommend stopping here for a treat, it is only a few minutes off the main hwy, a beautiful location with a breath-taking view down to the sea. Our second day we decided to have the seafood chowder, which was incredible! A delicious and warm meal for a cool day; really hit the spot. Truly amazing to us was the fact that Kate and employees remembered us from the previous day. The first day, we only had ice cream and left and as they must get many visitors we were really impressed. I recommend a stop here and you won't be dissappointed. They also sell a range of chocolates that were very tempting and many jams (the huckleberry was my favorite). I hope that some day I get back for ice cream again.
