Katie Wheeler Library is a beautiful and quiet place. It's hidden behind a busy shopping center in Irvine. It's clean and has a whole second floor for children books. During Spring, the flowers outside are very beatiful. Friendly staff. Clean bathroom. Nice to have a picnic outside or just reading on the grass or little nature/mindfulness walk outside. You can check out "wifi" to take with you. However - waitlist is LONG in the hundreds! You can also can check out nice looking laptop but check out time limit is short so you would have to be at the library.

Looking for a beautiful, cozy place to study? Come here! We came to this pretty, small, white house only to find out that it's a library! It's so small that there are only ~15 seats throughout the library. It was full when we went, so we opted to sit outside. It was still really beautiful, but if you want a seat inside, make sure to come early:')

Probably the best small library in California; no, no, in the world! I guarantee you that if you go to Katie Wheeler's Public Library, you will appreciate everything about what America offers. The public library is in one of the most beautiful scenic places in the city of Irvine. The ground is kept as clean as any European museum, or Korean DukSoo Palace. The tall palm trees and orange trees surrounding the handsome white buildings make it the most majestic library in the country. The numbers of free services include free copy, free check out, free DVD and CDs. The staffs are incredibly nice and helpful. I'm so blessed to have the opportunity to call this place one of my city's many wonderful free offerings and I get to enjoy it every day! God Bless America and the public libraries, specially Katie Wheeler's.

This library is so quaint and cozy, it was restored from being a home into a small library. Personal touches like a fireplace, portraits and they had a tree up while we were there in the month of December. The staff here is awesome. They are very welcoming and helpful in regards to all your questions. You can find them as soon as you come in to your left. On this floor you will see computer tables, checkout desk and they also have DVDs on this floor. Upstairs they have the children's section, which mostly the times I have gone it has been - well, full of kids. So don't expect this area to be quiet. On this floor you can also find a "quiet room." So funny that it's on the same floor as the children's books but once you go inside and shut the door it is marvelous! Overall it is a pretty small library but it's personal touch and great staff keep you coming back every time. There is always a good book to read, no matter how big or small the place is.

Really nice place to go with kids, is super relaxing and calm. Recommended if you are an avid reader.

Is the used bookstore located in the basement still open during the summer?

I went down to their bookstore during the summertime and bought a ton of books. If I remember correctly, they open around 10:00 am. So to answer your question, yes, they are indeed still open during the summertime :)

Of course you can have a book shipped from any OC library to one close to you but I was curious about the Tustin library, never having been there. I walked in and my first impression - it's HUGE. An enormous lobby with a large children's section to the right and a larger adult area to the left. The library was neat and well organized - I found the book within a minute. So I browsed around a bit and ended up getting a couple others too. On my way to check out my books I passed a classroom full of computers, and it appeared as though some sort of class had just adjourned. Other reviews mention it is a bit noisy here but I honestly didn't experience that on a weekday afternoon. Since I did self-checkout, I didn't interact with any of the librarians so I was unable to impress them with riveting conversation about the Dewey Decimal System.

You will probably not find a quieter place to study at UCI. Each floor is equipped with study tables and desks, for students and the casual reader alike. Computers are also available for those without laptops. From what I have seen, UCI updates these computers every few years, to keep up with technology advances that newer software demands. The library has several locations where you can fill up on water and use the restroom. But it is best to navigate the library yourself to find these locations, because sometimes it is easy to get lost. My favorite places to study are the fourth and fifth floor tables, across from the giant windows facing the trees and walkway. People don't usually talk, so you can enjoy some quietude on these floors. If you need to take a break from your studies or reading, take a walk outside and enjoy the architecture, or the sculptures outside depicting the life of intellectual labor. One thing to note is that due to the scandal Dr. Ayala was involved in, with regards to sexual harassment, UCI decided to remove his name from this library. For now, it is just called the "Science Library."
