I never expected to see such a great collection…read moreof contemporary art inside such a large spacious museum at a community college in a town of 20,000 that is 100 miles from a major city. Impressive Sedalia! Spread out on 2 wings and 3 floors with plenty of outdoor sculpture also, the Daum is just as impressive as The Kemper in Kansas City, The Nerman in Overland Park, KS or the St. Louis Contemporary. Multiple exhibits were featured on todays visit, including "The Rule of Three" - sculptural and decorative ceramics, "In Ruins" - a three artist collaboration of post industrial ruin via sculpture, models and photography; and two other curated exhibits featuring pieces from the permanent collection - "Still Life's" and "Gridlocked". Oh yes, they also have a huge purple glass Chihuly chandelier hanging in the 3 story atrium with multiple vantage points from inside and outside to view. The crown jewel of several unique reasons to visit Sedalia for a day.

The Lodge is quite striking from Highway 65 and the view of central Missouri is beautiful from the patio. I'm pretty sure that the experience would be so much enjoyable if I had been able to enter the mansion instead of just reading about it's interesting history. Even if you don't have a reservation go check out the view and what little you can see; it's only about a 3 minute drive off of US65. A cool and unique addition to the Missouri state parks system.

But the park itself is very nice with very many trees and really nice places to have picnics. There is also a basic gym area for the children and those who have decided not to grow up completely. We are losing our places to just be out in the trees and fresh air and just relax! This is one of the best places left.

Included are a hardware store, a Barber's shop, a doctor's office, a law office, a drug store, etc. They also have a wonderful military room. There are displays showing famous people from Clinton, or past businesses such as hatcheries that shipped nation-wide. There is a genealogy room staffed with volunteers. There are docents available for guided tours. The museum is closed during the winter except for special occasions.

The Johnson County Museum is very good for toddlers and younger kids ages 2-10 but for anyone older I would say that they would get bored pretty easily. Over all the Johnson County Museum is a great place to bring your children on a rainy day to keep them busy I would definitely recommend.

The site of the old King Louie…read morebowling alley has given way to the Arts & Heritage Center containing an exhibit better known as the Johnson County Museum. Instead of erecting another concrete monstrosity, JoCo took a piece of its expansion and history to house that very same dynamic. The Arts & Heritage Center itself is a wonderful facility, blending local & regional art, classes, and community space. It also doubles as an election polling location particularly focused on early voting opportunities (exercise your right!). Taking that classic 1960s suburban architecture, complete with stone walls & beams in a pseudo-flying buttress, and turning it into a new piece of the community is a *chef's kiss* of civic planning. Where you once may have tried to pick up a 7-10 split, you now can tour decades of people & progress. The museum itself costs $6 for adults with discounted admission for seniors, veterans, & children. It doesn't take long to get immersed in the interactivity and to get mesmerized by JoCo's storied past. Take in the public art displays or stop into the gift shop for keepsakes of the visit. Virtually every event has been well-documented, notable people are memorialized, and the chronology only keeps moving forward. Northeast Kansas continues to grow and find new ways to reinvent progress, so be sure to grasp the spirit of expansion that has occurred in this beautiful metro area.

The outside front entrance had a really nice garden with bench seats and a clock, I believe this building was a former train station due to it being close to the train tracks and it's a Santa Fe Engine 5008 display next to the museum that looks really nice and also a 2-8-0 steam locomotive #2546. Even though the Disney museum was small it was still very nice overall experience. Walt Disney childhood home is located not too far down the and is definitely worth checking out too.

There's a little bit about Walt's childhood there, and how its Main Sttreet buildings inspired Main Street USA at his theme parks. While it plays off the quote , "Jf it all began with a mouse, " there is a great gap between his childhood and the construction of the first Disney theme park -- Disneyland -- that is left unexplained. Instead, there's is a good deal of memorabilia. The museum is not affiliated with the current Disney corporation. If it were, it would have the full Disney glamour and sparkle treatment. Without that, it is a small town museum a bit out of the way, honoring a local boy who made good.

Going through the museum I was overwhelmed by the history our nation has experienced in the past century and this century. Part of me wanted to read every display and look at every detail. Time was brief though. This was my second visit to this museum. There are three different areas in this museum: The military police, chemical, and engineer museum. There are three gift stores inside, and they were full of items I could not get outside of the base in most stores except online. I got post cards of the crossing pistols, a giant hoodie jacket, and tee with the crossing pistols.

The museum staff are really nice! They were very welcoming and made sure to point out the small Anthropology museum that you can also visit. Pros: this is free! As I mentioned above the staff seem really nice. I also overheard a little bit of several docents giving tours to different groups while I was there, and they seemed really knowledgeable and had interesting stories and facts about the art. The only thing to keep in mind, is that it is pretty small. You probably wouldn't spend a whole day here. I spent about an hour.

The Nelson-Atkins is synonymous with Kansas City and an absolute must-visit for visitors and locals…read morealike. Where to even start? This encyclopedic museum was built in the 1930s in a traditional beaux arts style. The original 1930s building is just as stunning today as it was 90 years ago. The original courtyard has been modified and transformed into a restaurant, but aside from that it remains largely untouched. In the 2000s the museum expanded with the Bloch building - an architectural marvel all it's own. Drive by at night to see each lens lit up. Currently they are working on another expansion, that will bring the museum into the modern era. I've spent so much time here it's ridiculous. From exploring as a child with my grandmother, to my time as a student, to exploring now as an adult there is really something here for just about anyone. Being an encyclopedic museum it features art from across the world and spanning the timeline of humanity. You can use the Nelson as a launching pad for discussing nearly any moment in time through the lens of art, which is really an impressive feat for a midsize city like KC. Some of my favorite pieces include a relic with the "finger bone" of st. John the Baptist (it's likely a chicken bone), "Woman IV" by Willem de Kooning, "Boulevard des Capucines" by Claude Monet, and "Persephone" by Thomas Hart Benton. This is the place I take all of my guests, and the place I come to when I need to reset or recharge myself. It's always beautiful, always therapeutic, and always FREE. I'm not sure folks really understand the incredible gift we have as a community to have access to this incredible place. My top KC treasure, and I hope every person gets a chance to visit someday.

Throughout our visit we were repeatedly followed and monitored. At one point, as we were leaving through a doorway a staff member who was entering saw us exiting and immediately turned around after looking directly at us. Another staff member approached us in a very confrontational manner under the guise of "guiding" us and even laughed after I responded with "yikes." The micro-aggressions were impossible to ignore. They didn't even seem "micro." The behavior from staff was excessive, unwelcoming, and deeply uncomfortable. It's unfortunate that such a culturally significant and visually appealing place is staffed by people who ruin the experience. I genuinely hope the museum addresses and provides better training on how staff members interact with guests.

Excellent Museum. It…read moreis on the small end of the scale but the quality is extremely high. Lots of historical items that are well curated and displayed in excellent condition. I loved seeing all of the detailed gear inside and outside of the building my young kids loved the large aircraft.
