I like the space and like the free WiFi. I love the quirky local art for sale. The barista was friendly. The service was a tad slow, but I don't mind that when I have an interesting space to occupy. The coffee wasn't the best I'd ever had. It wasn't the worst either. The douche who thought it was cool to berate the barista and talk loudly about himself did not color my review. Randomly stumbled onto this little charming corner cafe 3 blocks away from a friend's place. This is how I've imagined cafe in Seattle would be like - friendly service, fresh pastries, and solid java. No frills. Just plain goodness with really laid back attitude. The place is cozy (translate small) but it has a lot of foot traffic with folks from the neighborhood dropping by with their dogs or on their way to work. But there are a few tables with stools if you need to sit down to write your yelp reviews, or just get reconnected with yourself in peace over a cup of coffee. I'm on vacation.. It's early.. I'm grumpy. I'm the first one up so why not make the morning coffee run. This was the closest shop with the best reviews, so I made the stumble over. Greeted with a warm welcome and smile, my frown turned upside down. Great java selection to choose from to fit just about everyone's taste buds. This quickly went from a " grab and go" to a " grab and chill". Before I knew it everyone in my party met me there to grab their own cup. Love it! Met Katy this morning and she is extremely friendly! Katy makes all sandwiches and baked goods by hand. She was making some quiche like items while I was there. The owner's child was running around jumping up on high chairs which made me a little nervous. People's dogs were snapping at each other which was a little awkward, too. Just an awesome spot, really glad they're open right now. I'd walked and driven by a thousand times and wanted to stop in, and seriously - it's well worth it. Lovely people, very tasty fresh-baked goods (my banana bread was still warm when I got it this morning!) and even though I usually don't like sweet drinks, their vanilla chai is absolutely incredible. This is what I love about neighborhood coffee shops, the staff is friendly, the food is fresh and the coffee isn't overdone. You can grab a latte to go or sit and snack on your breakfast bagel sandwich. If you're a regular, the staff knows your name and your "usual". I had the macchiato (2 shots of espresso and foam), rich and strong. I also got to try the cold brew which I would also recommend. And the breakfast bagel has cheese and cream cheese (along with egg and ham or whatever meat you want)... YASSS! read more

The food was really good. I ordered it from postmates after I flopped on my midterm and it was the yummiest thing. Great customer service! I came in with my kids 10 minutes till close and they were more than happy to take me. I ordered a hot chocolate with hemp milk. It was delicious! We stayed at a nearby AirBnB in late April 2017 and discovered this gem right away. The three of us are pretty predictable: americano, vanilla latte, chai latte. All three of us thought these were some of the best of those drinks we have ever had. In addition, the breakfast sandwich was very tasty - although, having egg, cheese and ham on a bagel every day for a week is not great on the belly size. The guy working the counter was very helpful and friendly but when I asked for an open face breakfast bagel sandwich (tryin to cut down on those carbs) the women helping me gave me a "Really?". Bathroom was locked for 15/20 min (Almost positive there was no one in there and someone had accidentally locked it). When I inquired about it, the same women just shrugged it off "Nothing I can do". My partner and I frequent here often and we absolutely love it! Best coffee and chai in the area, and they have made-to-order sandwiches that are fresh and delicious! The sandwiches are made with love, so expect to wait a little longer than average for them to be ready--totally worth the extra time. I recommend the BLT, adding pesto and cucumber. The workers are very friendly and know many of the patrons by name as many live in the neighborhood and visit Katy's often. I remember sitting in the window one Saturday afternoon and an older lady just stopped in to say hello and bask in the ambience of the place for a bit. She had just had recovered from surgery and Katy's was the first place she had ventured out to after being cooped up for some time. If you've watched Gilmore Girls, this is your Luke's Diner. I am staying at an air bnb across the street. I woke up early and walked over to this tiny little cafe for coffee. It seemed like a bunch of regulars that were having good conversation. I walked in and was greeted but told that it will be a minute so I put my things down at a chair. 5 minutes later someone else comes in. Literally 10 minutes later the next order is taken and it's not mine even though I was there before the other person. So if you want your order taken, expect to have to literally stand there in front of counter doing nothing for at least 10 minutes. Then wait another eternity for the food itself. read more

The clientele is entertainingly diverse: Stroller-pushing moms, web startup geeks (e.g. me), a few unfortunate folks who sometimes skip their meds and Capitol Hill hipsters in skinny jeans and Urban Outfitters hats. The lovely Katy and the other baristas are relaxed, funny, conversational and in control. Katy's is a truly wonderful neighborhood coffee house. The baristas greet eager caffeine junkies (or weekends-only half-caf junkies like this reformer) with the kind of sweetness I have been searching for in my hood. The vibe that Katy's puts out into the universe is enough for me to feel truly transported away from reality back to the indy coffee house I worked in in small town Minnesota before work and life obligations were even a glimmer in a college girl's eye. Sigh. Back to Katy's: the drinks are fairly consistent (hence the 4 stars), the space is welcoming and they have an all-you-can eat brunch one Sunday a month. Can't beat that! read more

Update: They now offer white coffee! Other than Sureshot in the University district, this is the only place I know of in Seattle that offers it. It's beans that aren't as fully roasted, so they have significantly more caffeine. The flavor is much more mild, though, so if you order it make sure you get it with flavored syrup or it'll be really bland. I remember Sureshot having mentioned that but they only offer it in conjunction with syrup and I forgot, so I ordered one without syrup and it was like drinking heavily caffeinated soymilk. read more

Small, cute, homey (by which I mean somewhat crowded and not terribly well-organize counter display). It's a cozy place to have a cup of coffee while you wait for you kid to finish at Meter, the music school a block away. My barista was eating his lunch as I came in, which made me feel a bit like I was interrupting. The coffee itself was tasty, and perfectly adequate without knocking me off my feet - not too burnt, not too light-bodied, and well-balanced. Katy's is probably closest to what you would experience if your own living room were a public coffee house, I think. read more

I've been here a couple of times. I'm not going to lie, I don't really remember how my coffee was. This was before my yelping days. What I do remember is the excellent customer service I received! Katy was super nice, and it kind of took me by surprise how genuinely interested she was in the mundane details of my day.
