It is a combination small zoo, 4H exhibit at a fair, and charmingly ramshackle. Harley the bird startled me by saying " hello" out of the blue, he has a great voice. It is worth it to buy some feed bags when you buy your tickets, as many residents are most enthusiastic about receiving some of that cracked corn. A few enterprising birds seem to have snuck out of their cages so as to indulge in corn that bounces off the cage. Pretty calico cat hanging out at the entrance. Staff all very nice.

He was very good at spotting the gators and other critters along the river. He had a nice commentary and useful information about the history of the area. The airboat was very loud so it was quite difficult to hear everything he said. Our guide even gae us a nice run on the river with a bit of a splash/spray as he made the turn! Definitely saw lots of gators this trip. After the trip, you are invited to visit the main shop which was also the check in area for an opportunity to hold a real life baby gator! The gator was rather soft on the belly side. Was a fun trip. The day was not too hot so it was very enjoyable.

Went on a nice easy hike here at Flat Island Preserve. The trails are well maintained, but can get…read morea little muddy if it's been raining recently. We took the 'red' route which brought us to the canal. About half way through there was an actual boardwalk that was above the water/swampy area. Walking there it was really cool to see the forest of palms. We also saw plenty of butterflies and geckos. No alligator sightings in the canal.
