Is Paul still the owner? I've had good experiences here before, but my last visit was unacceptable. I came in for a basic pedicure ($33), and the service was rushed from start to finish--even though the salon wasn't busy. The technician skipped basic steps, like filing one of my feet, which left my nails uneven. I had to ask for additional trimming, and she seemed annoyed by it. I was also pushed to upgrade to a $38 For a 6 min foot massage. 3 min on each foot. Really! I declined, and after that the service felt even more rushed and careless. This isn't about extras I just expect the basics to be done properly. If a technician doesn't want to perform a service, I'd rather be told that upfront than receive a rushed, incomplete job. Very disappointing, especially since I know they can do better. I'll give it one more try, but if this is the level of service going forward, I won't be back. I remember when Kayla nails opened in 2013, despite being surrounded by at least two other nail salons in the same area, Paul and his team made the customer service outstanding and the quality was excellent. This past Tuesday I had an appointment with my daughter for 10:00 am. I figured, it's my birthday and how nostalgic to go back where I would take my daughter for manicures with me... we moved out of the area about 3 years ago. We arrived and the person who met us at the front was clueless about any appointments. (Kelly) Kelly helped me with a gel builder manicure and Tiffany did my daughter's gel mani while Helen started her pedicure. The vibe: Kelly would initiate conversations repeatedly in their language and would talk over the preexisting conversation my daughter and I were having. (About 3 different times) it was as if despite being the only customers in the salon, they were in a rush to finish and were trying to hurry up. At one point, I asked her to revise some bumps I noticed on my nail, her response: "it's only the first coat" and she continued. Being my birthday, I really only wanted to have an enjoyable day. So I let her carry on. The entire experience was so dull, even the "massage" it was so unbelievably uncomfortable, squirt of oil and about 2-3 taps on my hands. (Hopefully those cameras work and they can review the film) My daughter had requested a certain inspo pic that involved a chrome finish, and once she spoke up and voiced her unhappiness with the first nail, Kelly walked over and some dialogue was said, eventually they complied with her request and changed it to regular color since the look wasn't "chrome" looking after only two nails being done. And to top it off, she was cut on her finger, ouch! Once it was time to checkout, Kelly told me it would be $138, I tipped all 3 ladies in cash, interestingly, she didn't even say ty! I hand her my visa debit card and she asks if I want a receipt, I say yes pls and she hands me a receipt for $142. I ask her about the discrepancy, she says, "it's because you pay with card, next time you pay cash and I take 5% off" I explained to her that my issue with that encounter was about her telling me one amount and then charging another, without telling me about the increase. So deceitful and not good for business. I am not sure what her role is in this business, clearly she has lost touch of what a business thrives upon, customer service, honest service and satisfaction. I can tell you the $60 gel builder manicure was NOT worth it, the complete visit was so disappointing. The 3 stars are a reflection of my past experiences when Paul was there managing a great salon and not this experience from Tuesday. Thee most infuriating and stressful pedicure I've ever endured. Found this salon on yelp, came because the reviews seemed good. Notes: They use Windex to clean their chairs (not sure why, as this is not a disinfectant). I wanted a regular pedicure, with attention to my rough feet that needed exfoliation. I didn't even want nail polish or a top coat. Super simple! Katherine was my nail tech, she was awful! From overdoing it on my cuticles and hurting me, to over cutting my toenails. Katherine thought my legs of my petite body were so heavy, she scoffed and tugged on my leg for me to hold up my own weight. I've never been to a salon where they don't want you to be relaxed. Then she seemed to have a problem with my hairy legs lol and that my pants weren't pulled up above my knees. I had them pulled up as far as I wanted her to go, which was above my calf's. I asked her to scrub my rough heels just a bit more and she was upset! So I just gave up on the experience. I was so taken aback by her rude behavior and I don't think she was doing me any kind of favors LOL. I would not recommend this salon to anyone! Awful ... horrible!!!!! read more

I can back and Kelly (who did a great job the first time I went) once again did a wonderful job touching up the cracked nails. I have not had an issue since. I was very disappointed with the service I received on Tuesday, especially since the first time I got my nails done it was so great. I had an appointment scheduled for 12pm with Tracy. I show up a few mins before and was not seen to until 12:20pm by a man (obviously not Tracy). He was in such a rush to do my nails he sliced finger with the nail filer and the gel was not let to bake nearly long enough. Yeasterday (Wednesday) I noticed that the gel on one of my nails has already cracked. I would not reccommend. read more

The employees here are nice, but their work and service is very mediocre. Cleanliness is also questionable. I asked for acrylic in my two big toes and it seems only one nail tech was able to do acrylic. See picture, the yellow lines is my actual nail, so why did the build the nail so wide on both sides .. the tip isn't even straight. Not very good technical skills. I also noticed that when they took off my previous gel on the big toes, they did not clean the toenails at all and just went straight into applying acrylic, I could still see remnants of my previous color on it (I know the black polish covers it now, but trust me it's there) I think this was done because they had another appt come in with the tech that applied the acrylic, and that was rushed. Sanding band on the nail bit of the electric file was already on and definitely used before - those should be tossed out after each client. The other nail tech who did the rest of my service did clean my other toes, but it didn't seem very thorough as other places I've been. Besides all that those things I did think that their chairs weren't the most comfortable , my booty was sore after the service and found myself wishing the service could end so I could get up. Some other little things like their towels being very hot and they kinda do talk about you in Vietnamese (apparently I don't look Viet) , but my main concern was the cleanliness of the equipment. They also use windex as disinfectant (it's should not be). I would not personally visit again but I do hope they increase their skill levels change their cleaning protocols so they can succeed further! 60$ pedicure service + 2 acrylic big toe + gel polish = 100$ before tip . Kayla's is conveniently located in beautiful Downtown Willow Glen - Depending on the day, street parking could be a bit hard to find but no need to worry - Kayla's has a huge parking area directly behind the shop. Paul and his team are superb! They greet you with a big smile, a warm welcome and by name as you walk in - Makes you feel like a billion bucks each and every time. I've been coming here for years and love that the team has picked up on the little things: They know that I always choose white for my pedicure, they know that if I come in during the week that I'm on a lunch break and need to be speedy vs. coming in on the weekend, I am there to relax and indulge - To me, this is incredible! The salon has more than enough manicure and pedicure stations to accommodate but I would absolutely suggest making an appointment {although walk-ins always seems to be more than welcome - as well as last minute appointments like myself}. The stations and tools are always cleaned/sanitized in between each client {super important} and the salon is always sparkly clean. I always opt for the regular pedicure {once a month} and a gel manicure {every two weeks - although, the manicure/color stays in tact for three weeks but the re-growth kills me} - Plenty of colors and designs to choose from! "Cash discount". It is actually the credit card fee. So, if you use your credit card, you pay an additional fee ON TOP of your total for services. If you don't use your credit card, you don't pay the fee. Mani/pedi: subpar. Quality of work wasn't great. Lots of defects and no attention to detail such as ensuring nail edges were completely painted. Edit to add: They don't use the mini-sealed individual nail supply packs that other salons used - with supplies that are used for one customer and then disposed of; most salons open these in front of you so you know everything is new and sanitary. I've gone to Kayla nails 2 times now in the past few years and each time I haven't been happy with the results. The only reason I went back again last month is because the owner Paul is generous and texts me about 30% discounts. The first time I asked for the viral Hailey Beiber glazed donut nails after showing a picture and got clear sparkles that instantly turned yellow after a couple days. The second time, I asked for the trendy soap bubble nails and ended up with a nude color that wasn't even dark enough to hide my nail. Not even close to the picture. I had to take engagement photos the next day and was really disappointed. When you try to say you don't like it, the technicians disregard you and try to justify that it looks good and then also expect a large tip. I also had to remind them about the discount several times...I think I'm finally done with this place. Not worth the discount. Sorry Paul. read more

I've been coming here for years, but after several weeks of quarantine, I had to update my review. In early March, I came to get a gel manicure before I headed off on vacation. Well, while out of the country, the entire Covid-19 situation unfolded in the states, and when I returned 3 weeks later, everyone was sheltering in place, and I knew I would not be able to get my nails done again for a very long time. But, as I sit here over 4 weeks after getting my gel nail manicure, I have to say I am incredibly impressed! While there is growth, my gel nails are still in excellent condition. I've cooked, cleaned and gardened, and they still look great! Now, I've compared my nails with colleagues (on zoom meetings of course) and by far mine are in the best condition. I've done a bit of filing to keep them a reasonable length, and this hasn't harmed them at all. While I've always known Paul and his team do excellent work, this has absolutely solidified it for me, and I cannot wait until all this is over and I can go back and get my nails done. read more

It was such a painful experience! The person who did my pedicure kept digging into my nail bed and made it so painful. That alone was horrible. To make it worse, even the manicure was badly done. My cuticles were not entirely cleaned, and it barely looks like I've gotten a manicure done. Plus, the nail polish lasted like a day and it started chipping right away, even though I didn't do anything much with my hands. Very disappointed! Went in last Tuesday for a pedicure and a full set. I had an appointment and a referral from a long time customer. Myself and my co worker received gift cards for teacher appreciation week. I was so excited to get in there because i was flying out for a wedding the very next morning. While getting my pedicure i asked several times for someone to turn my chair on, the woman had an attitude, laughed an then continued to talk to the woman doing my nails. I was very specific with how i wanted my nails. She seemed to get upset when i was explaining to her that i don't want pointed nails. The owner Paul came over to fix what she had done. He proceeded to tell me i need to ask for coffin. I told him i showed them both a photo. At this point i was frustrated and began to cry. I just wanted my nails and toes done. For the pricing i shouldn't have had to tell the woman to turn my pedicure chair on or argue. It is expensive and i do not mind that If i am treated properly . Rushing your clients is unacceptable. My nail broke before the wedding. I will not be returning to Kaylas. I do hope they slow down and take better care of their clients. I tipped even after all of this frustration smh. Went as part of a bridal party with mothers and the bridal party getting their nails done. Go to end to read tips. Greeting was fine. We picked out our nail color. There wasn't too much communication with my specialist to tell me that they were out of my color so I sat there wondering what was going on Also, they jumped around with who would be doing my pedicure. Otherwise, they did alright with my pedicure. My left big toe smudged from her hand and she cleaned it up then didn't fix it so.. What I am not ok with is my manicure. The lady was confused first with how I wanted one nail to be the same length as my others. Then she didn't really pay attention and I had to keep asking her to unstick my skin from the glue. I also asked for rounded nails and she didn't know how to do that. I just gave up after trying with her twice. You can tell on the sides of my nails that no nail polish was applied. I'm paying for this so please, paint my entire nail. I kept pointing it out to her and she just wasn't listening to me. She did so many layers that my nails are too thick now. Finally, at the end she asked me to wash my hands and when I came back, someone was sitting there. No acknowledgement. Thank you so much. You have to tip with cash so do make sure to bring cash. Also, parking is difficult since it is downtown Willow Glen so try to come during a time that is less busy to make it easier to find a spot. It was nice that they allowed for alcohol, provided glasses and poured for us. Hours are Monday through Saturday, 930-7 and Sunday is 10-5. I liked that they accommodated all of us. It does have a very nice ambiance with a random bubble in the flooring in the middle of the room. But I am unimpressed with the job and customer service. If you are Asian, don't come here, they will happily treat you like shit. If you are white, you're fine. No worries. You can come here and it'll be good service. Lookthe other Yelp reviews, you get blamed for your negativity. I'll post the pictures of my nails. Would I go again? Nope. Does it look ok? Yeah. Overpriced? Yes. I moved to the area a couple years ago and this nail salon came highly recommended from a close friend. This is the place to go for any type of nail service: gel pedicure, gel manicure, dip nails, waxing, etc. Kelly and her staff are amazing and I cannot speak more highly to their customer service. Their space is modern, welcoming and friendly energy. Might I add they do not miss any details! They answer the phone promptly and are always there to squeeze you in if you're in a pinch with last minute timing. Still friendly, still very clean, and still full of nice people. Great color selection and the gel mani stayed on for 2.5 weeks with no chips or peeling at the edges. They are fast yet relaxing. I brought my expectant daughter here in late October to get a special pedicure together. First, I loved the salon as they offered you three different levels of service. This is the first salon I have been to where they actually removed some built up polish reside from my the nails first before applying a new coat of polish. Kudos to the salon for doing this! The nail salonists were friendly & I enjoyed the conversation we had. Another plus as some salons the pedicurist ignores you altogether! The prices were reasonable, too. Some salons are outrageous price-wise. We called here because another salon down the street could not take us as walk-ins. I am very happy that I decided to give this place a try. I called last minute before heading over and they were super sweet and accommodating and got me in. As soon as I walked in the door I was greeted kindly and taken over to the nail station. The lady who did my nails took her time to make sure everything was how I wanted it which was a nice change. They got my nails lookin' clean! I loved my nails so much that I came back a second time. My nails looked just as good, if not better. Sold. I am Very satisfied with the service, the color selection, the quality and the prices. I am so happy that I finally found a nice, clean, relaxing salon. Most places these days line you up, give you a number, shuffle you around, talk to each other about you, don't listen to what you want and end up doing an annoyingly bad job. Not here. It's actually a relaxing experience like it should be. The staff are all polite and skilled and take their time to deliver the results you are expecting. They are located in Willow Glen on Lincoln. You might be able to find a parking spot on the street out front, otherwise there is a parking lot in the back.
