Kazoku Sushi is one of those places you almost don't want to tell people about... but it's too good not to. We've been twice now, and it's officially a must-visit every time we're on the island. It's a true hole-in-the-wall spot! nothing flashy, but don't let that fool you. The sushi is phenomenal. Every roll we've tried has been consistently amazing, and the rice is perfect (which honestly makes all the difference). You can immediately tell how fresh the fish is! everything tastes clean, high quality, and thoughtfully prepared. I've even ordered rolls to go, and they hold up so well. The staff is another highlight, so kind, welcoming, and genuinely sweet. It adds to that feeling like you stumbled onto a local favorite rather than a tourist stop. Seating is a little limited, so just be prepared. There are a few small booths, but most of the seating is along the sushi bar. Totally worth it though. This is hands down a place I think about long after leaving, and one I'll keep coming back to every time I'm in Oʻahu. read more

Wanted to go to Sushi Bay but they were closed. Found this place near Aulani which had good ratings. Ambiance When I found it I realized we have been here years before. It is a small dated place. Most times than not these places have good food. Customers appeared to be locals which is a good thing. Rate 3 Customer Service The 2 young ladies serving were very polite and attentive. Racking my brain trying to remember the name of a sushi restaurant we ate at our last visit to HI. It was good yet no review. In Yelp pics it looked like the place, well it was. Small place 6 full tables and a bar with room. So we sat at the bar and ordered a Lemon Drop & King Kong. It was good stuff & too much for us. They hit one of my pet peeves - they charge a 3% gratuity after taxed total for the kitchen staff. It's well publicized on their menu so you don't miss it. So be prepared. read more

Dropped in here for a quick bite. It's been awhile since I've eaten here and forgot about their BYOB policy which is pretty cool. The bad side was empty so I chose to sit there as a single so that other parties could use the booths. You can see the chefs cut and make your dish right in front of you. First service was excellent. Two stars are for the food. Poke bowl was pathetic. For $21 it was NOT worth it! The poke served was substandard and portion was small. The vegetable tempura was burnt and it tasted burnt too. I swear it was leftovers. The shrimp tempura was excellent. Unfortunately the batter used for the vegetables was different. Vegetables rubbery. Pre Covid this place was awesome but now it's not worth the $230 we spent for lunch! The Karaage was dry and hard and tasted more like Mochiko. We absolutely love coming here as a special sushi date night. What we love is that you can byob and that the sushi is fresh. It is on the pricier side, however, the food is delicious. The staff is always friendly and we never have to wait to be seated. If I had to give a constructive criticism, it would be that the rolls can be packed with too much rice. Passing on the cost of staffing to your customers is diabolical. Especially since we didn't order anything from the kitchen. I asked about the charge and I was told it goes on all the checks. The food become just ok... they used to be great however it's declined drastically over the past couple years. The restaurant is clean , nothing really notable. Everything about this place is top notch. From the wait staff, to the sushi chefs are super friendly and FAST. The quality of the fish and food is A-one. We try and go there at least once a month. There's ample parking, not a lot of wait time for a table, friendly service and good portion sizes of food. All of which account to a great place to eat at for me! When you get walk into the restaurant, to the left is the host stand. There are booth seats, along with sushi bar type of seats where there was once a rotating menu in the middle of the restaurant. Though that piece isn't operating, the servers take your order and the sushi chefs hand that over the sushi bar setup to you. Love the Deluxe Bowl that comes with spicy ahi, a spicy crab mix, and sushi rice at the very bottom. The sushi rice is the perfect consistency and flavor. Not too sweet, not too vinegary, they really got the recipe right. The cold soba also had the perfect consistency, with just enough bite and chew in the noodle. The tempura came out crispy and the breading around it was tasty. I think we just found our new favorite go-to sushi place, out here in Kapolei! read more

Kazoku Sushi located across the street from Costco Kapolei is a local Japanese restaurant specializing in sushi. They have various options including specialty rolls, nigiri, chef's 11-piece omakase, and more. I went right at opening so we were tended to very quickly. Our waitress was very kind and checked up on us very often. The chefs making the rolls in the center were also very nice. They asked how everything was, if we needed anything, and greeted my party and me upon entrance, and exit. The restaurant was also very clean. Also, there is a single restroom stall. Everything we ordered was great. My favorites included the roll as well as the chiwan musui. If I were to come back, I would stick to getting their specialty rolls and some appetizers. That is because some of their appetizers were expensive for the amount they gave. In total, I spent about $82 on everything. Would I come back? Yes! We were in the area and craving sushi at the time. We stumbled upon Kazoku Sushi which is pretty hidden. It wasn't busy at all and there were counter tables and booths available for seating. It was also BYOB which was surprising. Once seated we got our waters and looked over the menu. Lots of sushi and fried food items to choose from. We decided to go with the combination bento ($32.25) and out two choices was the furikake salmon and chicken karaage. The combination bento also comes with salad, rice and miso soup. We also ordered the vegetable tempura ($16.50) and the spicy crunch roll ($17.38). The spicy crunch roll came out first. It looked super good! There were crumbs on top of the sushi and their spicy tuna was different from other sushi spots. It looked more like a paste. But that didn't stop it from tasting good! The vegetable tempura came next. There was a mix of onions, bell peppers, potato and string beans. The combination was the main event. The salmon was my favorite. Crispy on the outside and soft tender meat on the inside. The furikake was a nice touch. The chicken was also crispy and the sauce on top was tasty. Salad was good. Wish they had a little more as it was finished quickly. Overall, the food was good. Service was fast even though there wasn't much staff working at the time. I went here today for lunch by myself. I've been here before and I knew it was going to be great! They greeted me as soon as I entered the door and the customer service was spot on getting me seated and getting me something to drink. I had hot green tea and then got into the sushi. I got a Dragon Roll, which comes with Unagi (eel) and it's one of my favorites. Then I tried their Ikura (fish eggs). They even had a salmon wrapped Ikura that I hadn't had before, and it was a great complement. Lastly, I got a Deluxe Specialty Bowl to go for dinner. Overall this only cost me $75 before tip, which wasn't bad for two meals of high quality sushi! My complements to the chef and the staff! There is plenty of parking in this area. Easy peasy sushi dinner after work. I mostly enjoy coming here for the soft shell crab & chawan mushi. You need to place your order for chawan mushi when seated because it takes 20 minutes to prepare. It wasn't busy & the two sushi chefs were kicking the rolls out so didn't have time to take any pics. The waitlist can be long on weekends as it is not very large establishment. There is a row of sushi belt seating and some booths that seat 4; 5 if you request an additional chair. Btw, the belt is not running due to Covid. We tried doing take out couple of months into the pandemic & it was horrible. Shrimp tempura tasted freezer burned or twice fried.
