The music that was played reminded me of three radio stations back in Massachusetts combined. Good variety of tunes, a lot of repeat artists though in the short time of listening; Ozzy, Nirvana, Rob Zombie, Red Hot Chilly Peppers, Metallica, and Tool to name a few. I traveled as far as Powder Mountain and Snowbird and station was clear. Thank you for providing music for my brain to process old memories.

For music there are different features throughout the week, like Living the Circle of Life (Native American) on Sunday mornings and Smile Jamaica (reggae) on Saturday afternoons. I didn't really appreciate how great KUER was until I moved to another city. I live in SF now and my local NPR station is probably funded 10 times as well as KUER, but I honestly think KUER does a much better job with local reporting and bringing a compelling local angle to the programming. During the 10 years I lived in Utah the voices of Jenny Brundin, Tasha Cook, Michael Havey and others felt like like family during my daily commute. KUER does a fantastic job in a difficult market, and it's obvious they are passionate about bringing quality news and discussion to Utah. And don't even get me started on Doug Fabrizio and RadioWest. He's one of the best interviewers in the business, and I'm constantly wondering why he hasn't moved on to a national show yet. I still listen to the RadioWest podcast even though much of the local material shouldn't be that interesting to me anymore. The only thing I don't love about KUER is the jazz at night, but that's just a personal preference (plus it gave me a chance to listen to some KRCL). Overall I'd trade the fancy-pants big city KQED here in San Francisco for KUER any day of the week.
