And so, following a conversation with this friend, off I went to taste the brew being poured at this Norman Park cafe. I arrived at around 11 and there were a few customers about - two women who I'm guessing had just finished a flex yoga class next door, two mothers catching up and general cafe goers. It was a calm atmosphere even with the air-con technicians attending to the cafe's unit. The space itself is light and breezy. My latte is solid. It's not distinctly any particular blend but it's just a darn good coffee. My friend was right. I also ordered the smashed avocado on sourdough. The bread was fresh and soft - easy to eat delicately and I liked that the avocado came separate to the toast so I could put as little or as much on as I liked. I imagine that locals are loving having this kind of cafe in their hood. And while I won't necessarily drive here specifically for coffee again, if I find myself in this area, I know I have a solid option up my sleeve for a strong coffee.

Unashamedly using a wide variety of flavours borrowed from other cultures around the world (think labne, sagnaki, chipotle and kasundi) you'll end up coming back for more. If you're still looking for bacon and eggs, try the BRAT (order extra sagnaki though!) which is the best breakfast sandwich in Brisbane. The coffee is some of the best in Brisbane but by god the most reliable any day of the week. It wins huge points with me for serving filter coffee with a proper breakfast menu too.

By far the cleanest and grooviest cafe on ipswich rd, I was first tempted in by the delicious food aromas wafting down the street. Part coffee shop part vintage collectable paradise this sweet little spot emits a lovely glow of vintage charm. And while the coffee is a bit average the food ain't half bad. I recommend scrutinizing their delizioso toasties (Mozzarella and prosciutto omnomnom.) and the veritable selection of cake and cookies. The place gets understandably packed for breakfasts but is well worth a visit when out and about in Annerley.

It's true that there are probably only two places to get a good cuppa in Annerley; Dudley Street Espresso is one of them. Being a cafe that sells collectables on the side, it fits into that stretch of Ipswich Road just nicely, with it's antique stores and it's op shops. It's a busy cafe, on a busy stretch of road, so you can expect it to be noisy. The coffee is creamy and strong. The food is worth a mention- try one of their sandwiches. They're yum, and very affordable. I probably come here more for the food than the coffee to be honest (nothing beats a good sanga). Go sit down at long table that runs down the middle of the space, or sit in the window and people watch, or...car watch, as it does look out onto bustling Ipswich Road. The collectables are cute, but I always get the feeling they are more ornamental, an actual part of the shop, rather than goods to be sold. Maybe you'll feel differently and find yourself a nice treat to take home with you. The choice is yours.

My main requirement was just a decent coffee and I was not dissapointed as my double shot espresso was one of the best, the barista knew his stuff! The food on offer looked delicious but as I was happy with just a plain croissant with my coffee I cant comment more, although watching how the food was presented to other customers was impressive. This cafe is the reason I'm a coffee snob. The owner is the barista (most of the time) and is so incredibly passionate about coffee. Large coffees have a free, optional 3rd shot of coffee, and alternative or specialty milks are also free. Personally, I appreciate an owner that wants all their customers to enjoy their coffee more than they want the extra 30 cents. The lactose intolerant are truly welcome here. It's not even the cheap faux-milks, either. Since it's small beginnings it has grown a lot. The most impressive is the pizza oven, which is really opened up the kitchen to make some really delicious breakfast foods. These guys do a classic breakfast menu, so if you want an eggs benedict, this is your place. (Most of) the cakes may not be made on site, but they are brought in from somewhere that knows what they're about, and they are always fresh. 2shots started with 3 tables and have a dozen seats - and now they have an outdoor table area. I hate sitting outside, but this is an exception. The eating area has blinds, so wind and rain can be kept out, and of course a roof, which heaters for winter. To compliment this set up is a truly ludicrous amount of potted flowers around the edge - which keeps all the tables cool and insulated from the weather, and looks wonderful. Want good coffee? This little corner of Windsor's Homezone complex seems to change hands often these days. It's…read morealways occupied by a cafe, but the name on the door has been changed three times in the past year or two. Nevertheless, it's a nice spot. The inside is an air-conditioned shelter from the complex's hot expanse, and the decor is modern, unassuming, and relaxing. Kafe Krave seems to offer both table or counter service, depending on what you want to do. You see a lot of people placing takeaway coffee orders at the counter and selecting a piece of cake or a salad from the cabinet, but there are also people who opt to settle in at a table and wait to be brought a menu. I found the staff to be very nice and helpful, and my pot of tea was brought promptly (I hate when restaurants let it set at the service counter until it's brewed to the point of bitterness) and with a smile. My companion enjoyed her coffee and said her piece of cake was very satisfactory. Even though Kafe Krave is the latest in a string of cafes in this spot, I hope they last because they definitely deserve to.

Lots of different types of seating inside and out. Food and menu looks diverse and delicious. But we just needed coffee. Beans by Veniziano. Coffee was well made and a perfect temperature. I was excited to try Bacano Boutique Caffe, especially after hearing that their small store in Rowes Arcade had proven so popular that they've recently opened another cafe on Charlotte Street. So I definitely walked in with a "this is going to be good" attitude. I had to get a takeaway coffee because there was no room to sit in the cafe, which was fine, though it would have been nice to sit and enjoy the chalk board painted walls with pictures of people sipping coffee and funny quoted all over the place. I must say, it wasn't too great. The coffee itself lacked body and flavour and the milk in my cappuccino was thin and not at all frothy. Come on guys! It it's any consolations, it was quite busy at the time that I went in, but in my experience a great Barista can still churn out a fantastic coffee, whether they are knee deep in orders or not. I can't say I'll be back at Bacano in a rush, but hopefully I just caught them at a bad time.
