I made an appointment with Dr. Antonis at OrthoVirginia's McClean Office. After a long drive to my appointment I was told it was canceled because Dr Antonis does do backs anymore and that they had called me on 6/1. I was able to show the front desk on my phone there were no incoming calls that day and I hadn't heard from anyone at any other point. So they were pretty disorganized. While the receptionist tried to find another doctor, her back office provided a quick no. I would have liked to have known they really tried but it didn't seem like it. Overall it was to very disappointing experience as their office comes crossed as being disorganized in that they didn't 1.) let people know of the change with Dr Antonis, 2.) inform me at all (email and text and call please or at least for 2 of 3 so you have back up measures), and 3.) seem too interested in helping or remedying my situation, despite their mistake. The front desk receptionist was cordial and did make an attempt for me so that was a good experience. But she clearly was shut down pretty quickly by the back office, which made things worse.

I have been woefully remiss in a review of this awesome Doctor who I first started using back in…read more2018 when I was referred by my primary Ortho Virginia Doctor to help fix a Bakers Cyst and very recently for a PRP to my shoulder, hoping to avoid surgery. Dr Antonis describes himself as "registered diagnostic medical sonographer with a special interest in ultrasound point-of-care exams and ultrasound-guided procedures, including platelet-rich plasma and newer orthobiologic agents, to augment healing" and he has become my go to Doctor for issues that are out of the scope of my regular Orthopedic surgeon . Back in 2018 I could not run or walk and Dr Antonis fixed my issues taking care to show me the issue using ultrasound and then on the dates of procedure took great care using needles to get the fluid out. I am back jogging. So, when my MRI recently came back with arthritis and a tear in my shoulder, it was a choice between surgery or visiting Dr Antonis who I immediately requested take a look and when I did, he thought (as my own primary care doctor did) that this procedure could help with pain relief. Before the procedure, one of his staff Amy O'Masta ,a Certified and Licensed Athletic Trainer and a critical resource to me, sat down and took the time to explain the process, procedure very patiently and once the procedure is agreed upon (remember Dr Antonis has to agree the procedure is beneficial) Amy is so very helpful with follow-up questions and procedures. As a certified trainer she was invaluable to coordinating with my PT folks providing both the necessary paperwork, prescriptions to take before and after and explaining what the patient should be doing. From week to days, you are left with clear instructions. On the day of the procedure, I had also arranged for my wife to be checked for the opposite shoulder and we both showed up to their new really nice office around the corner from the old. Parking is provided and the office was easy to locate. On check-in, it was easy and since I had to be hydrated, the front office staff provided water. When we both were brought in, my wife wentt first and Dr Antonis was able to visually able to show her what was going on and gave her some alternatives (like me) to surgery. My wife, who hates medicine of any kind, felt very reassured by Dr Antonis and opted to take a cortisone shot for relief. She did not feel pressured in any way (to the contrary). While this was going on, my blood was being drawn by a nurse (really nice) Before my procedure Amy again explained in great detail and showed me visually what was about to happen. On the procedure itself, while I was really nervous, Dr Antonis took great care and time (even turning on music from the 70s) explaining every step of the procedure in real time. Having him continually speaking, and letting me know what I was about to feel was really helpful finishing this procedure. He was assisted by Meghan who was great. After the procedure Dr Antonis again ensured I was comfortable and started exercising my hand to keep blood flowing. He really is an outstanding Doctor. Amy then took over and as a certified trainer, showed me the exercises I should be following both at home and at PT. She took her time and ensured we had all the information we needed before leaving. I follow-up in 4 weeks and hope this procedure will help me avoid surgery. A big thank you to Dr Antonis, Meghan and especially Amy (big kudos). If you have any sports issues or ones I mentioned above, I highly recommend seeing Dr Antonis for a second opinion and to perform the procedure if you qualify. He is outstanding and one of a very few Doctors who shows such empathy with his patients.

I took out a star on the rating because it was very difficult to park at this office location. It took about 25 minutes to park (in the garage) and another 15 to get out. If you need to see him in the Arlington office, plan to arrive early so you have time to find a parking space.

However, this is the most poorly designed building for people with sports injuries. The drop off zone has no handicap ramp for folks with mobility issues. Meaning no wheelchair or crutch accessibility for the drop off area. In fact, I call the drop off area the "danger zone trap for the disabled." Look at the drop off area photo. Especially when it rains, the separate pieces of stone get very slippery. After the danger zone maze of terror, your injured loved one now has to go through the American ninja warrior obstacle course and use the one sidewalk available to navigate around a expansive well manicured lawn to enter the building. It's immensely tiring for someone. Especially someone injured. I hope they make some design changes because the doctors visit alone could potentially could exacerbate injuries! Funny story - while I was writing this review an elderly patient needed to go to an attached building to get a vaccine. She noted that she was a nurse, it was raining, and "come on!" she didn't want to have to walk "all around the building in the rain!" To get to the other side of the building. Although the receptionist told the elderly nurse could not go through go the building, she did it anyways! Again, poor building design that does not focus on the patient experience.

Persistently Non-communicative Office Support When Trying to Coordinate Care…read more On one hand, the doctors at INOVA Medical Group Sports Medicine are great - the challenge is getting the office support to respond in order to receive the care needed. We contacted them to get my wife's gel shots for her knee, which we have been doing since late 2023. Seems like every time is the first time they've done this. This year we contacted them in April to order the shots and never received a call back. Called again in May... nothing. Called again in June, and they finally ordered the shots but with two issues: it was a different prescription than my wife has had before that cost over 3x as much ($1466.99 vs $368.92) and because they didn't get it filled til July, the cost was 100% on us, since we were now in a new deductible year for our insurance (begins 1 July). When my wife tried to get help from the nurse manager, my wife got blamed for this dilemma and then via mychart messaging said she would no longer engage on this issue, since I reached out to INOVA Patient Relations for their assistance - who have also not returned any of my calls. Additionally, I messaged my wife's doctor directly via mychart and have not received any communication there as well. I've spoken with initial office staff who logged our concerns on 19, 24, and 26 August - promised each time I'd receive a call back; but none have occurred. Very disappointing to be stonewalled this way considering the great medical care we've both received from the doctors in this practice. 27 Aug UPDATE: After writing the above on 26 August, sent this to my doctor and let them know I'd be posting this on the 27th if I hadn't heard anything back from them by noon that day. Saw a mychart post that they called and left a VM for my wife on her mobile that morning. I've previously explained to them that my wife has no cell access during their operating hours, and have repeatedly given them my number instead since I'm retired and available all throughout the day. Called that person back in the morning and once in the afternoon and sent the info to my wife who called and had to leave a VM as well, but neither of us ever received a call back, today (27th). Called their main number and was connected to one of the persons who attempted to help me previously. She apologized and said that she was messaging with the office manager and that it had been elevated. She confirmed my number and said I'd receive a call from one of the same two people who were supposed to have called me on the 24th. I asked if they'd call me today, and she said they'd call when they got out of their meeting; told them I'd be patiently waiting. No one called. Feels like this office staff is giving us the silent treatment, waiting us out... hoping we'll just go away. 28 Aug UPDATE: It's after 11am and no call. Reached out to their practice manager (again) and left her a VM. Received no calls again today.

He always throughly explains everything regarding my injury, the surgery and post surgery recovery expectations. He has a great sense of humor and bedside manner. The office staff has always been helpful and accommodating when I needed to adjust appointments and also with helping me process the necessary paperwork for my insurance and medical leave. I never had a long wait when arriving and am often taken back early for my appointment. I am 3 months post surgery and continue to have great experiences with this office.

He immediately ordered X-rays, blood work, and an MRI, and then referred me to a specialist, ruling out a cervical issue, which I initially suspected. I was very satisfied to see the genuine interest and dedication he shows toward each of his patients. I observed how carefully he reviewed my X-rays and ordered the necessary studies to fully understand my condition. At my follow-up appointment, I had the opportunity to be seen by his PA, Jennifer Leeman, PA-C, who performed additional tests in the office, consulted with Dr. Hughes, referred me to a neurologist, and ordered additional blood tests to further evaluate elevated lab results. I 100% recommend these healthcare professionals. They are extremely professional and care for their patients as if they were members of their own family. So he sent me for CT and MRI and told me to book the follow up with his nurse Jennifer since its the fastest way to get an appointment and he added " but I will be there as well"so i did and went to the fairfax to discuss my results... i was called in pretty quickly and the assistant who is clearly unqualified to work there asks me if i am pregnant or done either my periods... what? I am over 60 then she takes my pressure and tells me its 69 over 40 ... i asked her again and she said you haven't had breakfast thats why'! Really? The nurse took it again and it was the normal range as i expected. Then comes to my results obviously she had not even looked at them or discuss them with the doctor reading what the radiologist written snd briefly looking at the images and giving me what i could read myself . Very disappointed because i had questions that were not answered by the doctor who i paid to see because he never came in as he said he would. I dont think discussing results should be done with a nurse who clearly not an expert in imaging or diagnosis. I got nothing out of this visit so waste of my money and time and still dont know what really is causing my issues. Oh and the ladies at check out need to be politer and nicer either way the patients.

I'd like to operate on both at once". "Oh, do I have to," I asked. "No"...he said. "You you will have a much faster recovery having one done a a time". So, I had my first total knee replacement (TKR) done on my right knee. I begin to have issues in a month such as pain in right heel and right buttock. My right foot now turned out causing my right knee to turn inward especially when walking up and down stairs. I felt I could fall at any time. So on the second month visit I mentioned my problems. He then looked me straight into my eyes and sharply said, "Come back in a year"! So, I waited until after a year to see him. On that appointment I told him that I was happy to say that the pain I'd experienced in my right heel and buttock had resolved itself but that I was concerned that I might fall as my right foot continued to turn out which caused my right knee to turn inward especially when I was navigating the many stairs in my old house. Plus, now I was anxious about having my other (left ) knee replaced as I was having such problems with my new right knee (lousy balance and gait). "Well, have you noticed that you have flat feet?" ..." (I have never had flat feet) And, that the reason the foot turns out is that there is a hip problem", he continued. Then, strangely, he asked, "You don't want to have your left knee operated on and have the year long recovery.....do you"??? "Well, then, why don't you go home and think about it for a while?"? Then, he actually repeated the question several more times! "Then, if you want to go ahead I will do the surgery. Call all my surgical coordinator and have her set up an appointment"... --There was so much negativity on his part at this last visit, blaming me for the serious issues of my right foot turning out and the right knee to turn inward causing imbalance, gait and stress issues. And, can you believe he was always so friendly and attentive in many years before surgery?? I told my hb as we were leaving his office, "I don't think Dr Romness wants to operate again". And, who wants a doctor to operate again when he treats you like he could care less about you when problems arise after his surgery??? I can not under any circumstances recommend Dr Romness for total knee replacement. I do recommend that you do your research-in depth. Read read read. Ask many many questions and get many referrals from friends and acquaintances.
