Came for milk bread Overall not a stand out bakery, would not recommend you coming out of your way here. The baked goods weren't super fresh looking. They have a $15 card minimum which is lame considering Paris Baguette and similar bakeries don't do that. Overall I was too lazy to drive to a different place and didn't want the milk bread in the 99 ranch market so Kee Wah was the option for the day. I was not impressed by the options. We stopped by for a last-minute birthday cake for my father-in-law. We came here specifically because I know their cakes are not overly sweet; my wife got me a birthday cake from another location last year, and my in-laws loved it while I hated it. I figured they would like one from here. My father-in-law didn't want a cake for his birthday, but I still wanted to get him something. They were all out of cakes, so we were about to leave when my wife suggested we get individual cakes instead. We got a few chestnut and strawberry cakes. They were okay, but not my favorite; however, my in-laws liked them. I wouldn't come here for cakes personally, but for non-sweet-loving relatives, this is the place to go. This review is specifically for one of their birthday cakes, the napoleon taro . The visuals don't disappoint! This was a monster of a cake. Fed 20 people easily. Friend ordered it in advance for a party. Taste wise, it could've been a little more moist. The taro layer wasn't as creamy as we'd like but I appreciated the use of ACTUAL taro (not the artificial stuff). The napolean layers were crispy. The cake as a whole wasn't too sweet. The middle cake layer is dry without the cream that the sides had. The fruit was a great touch. Cheaper than other places for similar cakes so overall a good deal! read more

This is hands down the best bakery in SoCal. While Sheng Kee in the Bay Area has fluffier bread and more cream (albeit maybe too much), the prices here are also extremely fair and the breads are classic Taiwanese- and Hong Kong-style offerings. Egg tarts! Tried two of each. Original has that barely-sweet egg-pudding filling. Crispy is the same with a crunchier crust, but I think the original is fine. Portuguese is sweeter and has a more caramelized texture. They're good, just make sure you like egg because these are very egg-y. They make solid bread-pastries as well. Can't go wrong with a good pineapple bun. All good here, and I'm glad I got to try the OG place. Will be back for mooncakes when the season starts. read more

Kee wah eggtart never disappoints. We got both portugese and traditional hk. Both are good, depends what you like. They're around 2.25-2.50 each- not super cheap but worth it. The lady staffs are all so nice. It's custardy but not runny. The eggy flavor is just right. And the tart's hold up well. Nice little breakfast with coffee or afternoon snack. The bread is all fully stocked with a lot of variety too. Very affordable and so far everything taste good. This one is the MPK location. Kinda hidden, located in the 99ranch plaza. read more

One of the things I gotta get used to in LA is the open malls they have here. They have a lot of shops lined up like this. This is my first time in Kee Wah Bakery since they don't have this chain in NYC. I was trying to find a non flaky crust egg tart and this was the only place that had it. It was a bit pricey but was super delicious. It was the best I had in LA so far. The other thing I tried were the Pineapple Cakes. Apparently they make it themselves. The filling was good but the cookie dough was a bit too dry for my tastes. They also sell homemade moon cakes which I didn't get to try. I would love to come back here next time I visit the area. I wish they open early. They don't open until 9:30am and close early too. read more

Kee Wah saved the day! After going to Diamond Bakery across the street to find out that they ran out of egg tarts by 3pm, Kee Wah had plenty as they just made a fresh batch. $2.25 each for the original Hong Kong style. Needed these for a holiday party/surprise birthday and the lady was so nice when I asked if she had a birthday candle, she gave me one even though I did not buy a cake. She packed them in a nice and secure to go box and they were a hit! Everyone loved them, how can you go wrong with egg tarts? Their pastries are priced right, the quality is there, and the place is always clean and neatly organized. You won't find Asian pastries better than this in the 626! My favorite is the hot dog bun (been a favorite ever since I was a little girl ). My mom loves the ham & egg bun, which I've only ever seen at Kee Wah, and my dad's go-to is the coconut cream bun. I have enjoyed their moon cakes, egg tarts, bolo bao and then their milk tea and lemon tea. Although there is a Kee Wah Bakery in Cupertino, I don't go there often, because it doesn't feel the same. The girlfriend assures me the food tastes the same and she is right, but experientially, she is wrong. I know the ladies there. I know the layout. When I come here, it feels right and I do come every time I am in the SGV. These past 2 trips home I introduced 2 friends to Kee Wah, MP. I brought them here after an afternoon of doing touristy stuff in J-town and DTLA. We had milk tea and bolo yau; and, of course, they loved it. They are native San Franciscans and have never been to Kee Wah and did not know about the brand's rich history. I told them to come to LA with me more often and they will love Kee Wah MP. read more

Been customers for ages and love their breads cakes puffs cookies ... Sad to say their quality is on a downward trend lacking in TLC and enthusiasm. We always waited for them to open so to get them fresh & warm like in Hong Kong. Today's order was very disappointing as the meat were one block not crumbly & moist with gravy - the others were over bake & dry too. They used to post baking times so people can get them piping hot. Everyone appreciates a hot warm fresh pastry like ordering a pizza - imagine pizza or fried rice cold. Really hope they look into the quality control and reconsider putting out the hot baking schedule again & they can bag them off the tray not let customers help themselves because some really misbehave like hitting the pastry with the tong - why? Egg tart with flaky crust: 4/5 its creamy and sweet but i expect more egginess when biting into a regular tart, i think they used too much cream in this version Portuguese egg tart: 2/5 it looked underbaked and it was less creamy than their regular egg tart. There was also no browning on the top. Not worth the $2!! Go to jims bakery down the street instead Their other breads and buns are decent. I normally love their egg tarts, but was craving bun. With COVID-19, they have an employee standing outside and you tell them what you want and they'll get it for you. It's fast service. I have waited too long to write this review. I keep giving this bakery another chance but they just keep getting me disappointed. DO NOT BUY ANYTHING IN HERE! I use to buy their cakes for birthdays and such but the quality has definitely decreased a lot. Workers lie to you when you ask them if it is fresh and made today. They say yes to make you feel better. But do not trust them and buy their cakes. This is not the first time I bought the roll cakes from here. Both times I bought it, the cake is dry. Little late on the posting for this review but i came during Covid where you can't traditionally pick up your pastries yourself but... how they transformed such a old school store to be fully functioning and efficient in a pandemic was amazing to me. The pastries are still as amazing as they tasted when i was a toddler. I recommend the hot dog buns and i'm also a sucker for fruit tarts hehe. They were also giving out free gifts with purchases depending on how much you spend! *If you're asian american you would know the traditional cute paper calendars that just show up on your wall at home and you never know where your parents or grandparents get it from... well now you do ! hahhaha read more
