    Propitious mango ice cream
    Anna F.

Kelly's Korner moved into the former space of Regal Bakery in the Chinese Culture Plaza so you can easily access the shop from N. Beretania Street. They have a large selection of Chinese snacks and beverages. There's a small selection of fresh meats (mostly pork), fresh seafood and frozen seafood along with some fruits and vegetables. Their prices are a bit high if compared to the shops in Chinatown but it is reasonable if compared with HMart and 1-2 Buy which stocks the same brand of snacks and beverages. The aisles are in here tight but all the shelves are fully stocked. Some of their inventory is stacked and in boxes that haven't been opened. Some items don't have prices listed either. If you can't find something, it would be best to have a picture of it so you can show the staff and they can tell you if they have it. If you want the propitious mango ice cream, you can get that here. It's $14.99 for a box with 3 inside. I also saw the peach and lemon flavors too. They put these ice creams in a smaller freezer and it's in the middle of the shop. I've always paid with cash here because it's my last stop before leaving Chinatown. I think they accept credit cards but like most businesses, you might get that extra 3% processing charge. I like that they have a few parking spaces out in front so I just go in, buy my things and get out in under 20 minutes. The stalls are compact so watch out when you open your door.

Great to see another supermarket like grocery store in Chinatown. They have a few parkings in front of the store that you can park for a short time to get in and buy your stuff. (if the store is available, they are always full.) The store is pretty good size. They sells a lot of Asian goods. they also have produce, live seafood and meat section, you can buy pork, can you make , etc. They also have some Chinese herb, pretty much what you can find in a typical Chinese grocery store. They have it all. This remind me of the 99 Ranch that no longer has a store in Honolulu . Now besides going to H Mart, I can come here to check around. I'm glad that my wife told me about this store so now I can go there to do my grocery shopping often. They do charge 3% surface charge if you use credit card, so bring some cash with you.

They moved to a new location inside cultural plaza (the old Jolene) and man I think I can do one-stop shopping here from now on. They have the same products from the old location plus fresh produce. Now they're adding on meat section and live seafood! And it's very bright and clean. Will just do my grocery shopping here from now on after having dim sum next door!

We stop by to pick up some Chinese parsley and was surprised to see baskets of Samoan crabs all pretty large sizes. The inside they sell preserved seed and dried and can good products and Chinese medicinal items. Lots of times you cannot find parking spaces in the there parking lot and need to find street parking.

Grocery shopping in Honolulu's Chinatown... I needed some "Chinese ingredients" for soup and I was tired of stressing out about parking in Chinatown. I dislike the municipal lots because they seem crowded, dark, and unsafe. I dislike the metered street parking because I can't park there for free anymore... Unless it's Sunday or a holiday. What I like about Kelly's Korner is the five free parking stalls right in front of the shop. Kelly's is located right next to Mun Lun Chinese School... Next to the Chinese Cultural Plaza. Outside, there's a pretty good selection of fresh produce. I was able to find watercress! Inside, there's more produce and lots of dried goods like ginsing and scallops. I wasn't able to find the canned items that I needed, so, I had to still go to the regular store on Maunakea Street. Uhg. Anyway, I appreciated the air conditioning inside of Kelly's Korner and the organized shelves. They sure had a lot of merchandise for such a small place! I'll be back!

This a cool little small market behind the Chinese cultural center. This market is packed full of Chinese groceries like instant noodles..produce..teas..herbs etc. In typical Chinese fashion the staff aint friendly and just down to business. Prices aint cheap but not unreasonable unless you go for the pure ginseng ($250 or more per pound yikes) I guess my mask made the staff a bit uneasy (I dont blame them pandemic covering up) so had to rush the pics...but its a pretty cool market to visit.

Since Kelly's Korner (KK) moved down 2 large blocks down mauka on Maunakea St, I don't really see a need to shop here as I have my go-to places in the heart of Chinatown. However, recently on 2 occasions, I stopped by KK as I had an emergency. You see, I had done all my shopping and had already left Chinatown and I get that phone call of a missing ingredient. With the parking hassles I wasn't willing to go back to Chinatown for just ONE item I needed. What did I do? I drove to KK because of their convenient parking in front of their store. And, with much less foot traffic, I knew it would be a quick in and out transaction for me. By pure coincidence, we were making Chinese soup and both occasions I was informed we were short just ONE ingredient. Grrr....... And, these ingredients are something you most likely won't find at your local supermarkets. Dried honey dates? Whole dried Chinese black mushrooms? So, I was already in my car and luckily didn't enter the freeway yet. I drove to the Chinese Cultural Plaza and pulled into the parking lot just in front of KK. Had no problem pulling into a stall and as you walked in, the door sensor is set off to inform the staff someone has entered the store. This spot was previously occupied by Cheung Chau Store, which was there FOREVER. It was during the time when I attended Mun Lun School just next door and that was AGES ago. It was an open, garage-like atmosphere with no air-conditioning. They pretty much sold similar items what a Chinese grocery store would sell - - fresh, live, dried and canned products. Because I knew what those ingredients look like, I immediately found what I came for, which was laid out on their counter against the window. The young male (I'm guessing the owner) asked what I was looking for in Cantonese. I pointed out to the item I came for and he informed me I could also purchase those items by pound or pre-packaged. My colleagues don't like to sit on inventory and believe in just getting enough ingredients for that one time use. Despite the pre-packaged items are more economical but need to purchase them in a larger quantity, I declined and just bought enough for a pot of soup. Both transactions resulted in just a few dollars each time and because I was getting reimbursed, I asked for a cash receipt where he obliged. My transactions were hassle-free. With me being nosey, I decided to walk through the aisles to see what they carry. I did see some fresh produce and to my surprise, live Samoan crabs and prawns. Yum! I found KK to be on a smaller scale Chinese grocery store compared with competitors but it was clean and bright. Although KK is not my go-to place for shopping, it is a great back up when I need to pick something up last minute. 2019 #80

Extremely rude shopkeepers. I went there to pick up a few things for my Mom recently. Asked them if they carried what my Mom wanted...they acted like as if I was there ask to borrow money from them. Lol... So sad... people like that shouldn't be allowed to have contact with the public, let alone running a shop. I feel extremely sad for the older folks who go there because I see the same treatment was extended to them too. Parking was easy tho... spaces readily available right in front of the shop. Probably because no one wants to to there. I remember parking was much tighter when the previous shop was in business. Garbage are often left out by this shop near the store entrance. Totally an eye sore for everyone in the area. Spend your money some place else where your patronage gets appreciated. I wouldn't go there even if I was to be paid.

The layout of the store is pretty strange, with the entrance on one side, and the exit at the other end of the store by the food court. It forces you to either park near the entrance or exit (or in the middle), and either way, it's gonna be a long walk. We parked near the entrance and went in and found the food court at the other side of the store. The store is fairly large, and offers a huge selection of Japanese foods, snacks, and other specialty products. It was surprisingly empty for a Friday afternoon, but at least we didn't have to wait very long. They have a large counter for sit down dining, along with tables in the middle of the court. The skewers were a petty good size, but the meat wasn't as tender as I had expected. It was a bit stringy, and chewy, but the taste was good. They also provided a Teriyaki style dipping sauce, which had a good flavor. I like that it included both a green salad, and mac salad, and the bed of rice under the skewers were also topped with furikake. For some reason, although it was a take out order, they forgot to include any utensils for the eating salad and rice. The exit is located right by the dining area, so the walk back to the car is quite a distance. I understand that having only one exit reduces the chances of theft, but it's still pretty inconvenient for their "primary" customers, who are probably an older demographic. Maybe that's why they're not as busy as when they first opened?
