I went for the filet mignon and it did not disappoint. The meat was so tender I barely needed a knife. It had this buttery flavor and was topped with a little herb butter that melted right in. I liked that the portion size was filling but not overwhelming. The server gave great wine pairing advice and everything came out in good time. My wife and I spent several days in Valparaiso to both visit her sister and introduce me to the town where both of them went to college. I had always wanted to go there and am very happy to say that I totally enjoyed the visit. While there, we visited a lot of places and ate most meals out. Kelsey's Steak House was one of them. This was a pretty nice place. The dining rooms are large and roomy. We were seated at a table in a back room near the door to the outside dining area. Our server, Tyler, was very helpful and attentive. He had immediate answers to all of our menu questions. I ordered seafood bisque, sea bass with a crab topping, and a loaded baked potato. For dessert, I ordered the white chocolate covered white cake shaped like a cow. I don't remember what they called it. The seafood bisque was delicious. It had a lot of seafood chunks in it, although I couldn't tell you what they were. The flavor was rich with a hint of butter. The sea bass was a huge nicely cooked chunk. It was the biggest portion of sea bass I have ever been served. I liked the crab topping which was actually on the bottom. It had a strong crabby taste, but only small chunks of crab. The baked potato was my first loaded baked potato in a long while. I thought it was wonderful. The bacon on it was really smoky and piggy tasting. My wife had prime rib- the main reason for our coming to this venue. She really enjoyed it. Her soup choice was french onion, which she said was really good. It was served with little blue scissors to cut the cheese, which, of course, prompted me to say, "I guess we'll know who cuts the cheese!" The cake was amazing. I can't believe I didn't take a picture. It was shaped like a cow resting on its side. Mine was encased in a white chocolate shell. My wife's was in regular chocolate. Neither of us could eat the whole thing and ended up bringing a lot home. The white cake was so moist and delicious that the white shell was almost overkill. But, it didn't kill me, and I ate every bit. The restaurant was clean and comfortable. I don't remember any music. I was too busy watching the servers hustle and bustle around the place. I would definitely come back. The prices were on par with most San Antonio restaurants. There were some more expensive items on the menu, but I think you could get out of there for about $40 a person, if you went light on the cocktails (we didn't) and split a dessert. I get the Kelsey's garlic butter for the veggies - but I do hate having to pay extra just because the veggies have practically NO seasoning whatsoever. Ambiance is fine but not great. I would love to see the lights dimmed throughout the whole place to give it more of a "steakhouse" feel. walked in at 8:42pm, not realizing they would be closed at 9:00pm. I was greet with warm, happy faces. I was seated immediately. Joe was my waiter. He was quite attentive and personable. I ordered a sweet tea, and Joe brought me the entire carafe. He said it was best to grab it now so as to no one throwing it out. I knew what I wanted, and I was hungry. I started with a cup of stuffed peppered soup. It was a tomato base, very flavorful, filled with meat and green peppers in every bite. Then, I ordered the ribeye steak medium rare with sauteed mushrooms and grilled onions and a side of mixed vegetables. Joe thoughtfully brought me a baked potato with sour cream on the side and the house potatoes, as I forgot to order a potato. So he brought me both. A massive amount of mushrooms and grilled onions were presented to me for my steak as well. Joe was attentive without being overwhelming. Mike(manager/owner) was making his rounds. He engaged me and assured me there was no need to rush as I apologized for coming in right before closing. He said if the doors are open, we are going to serve you. We had a lovely conversation. Right away we knew that our waiter didn't care to wait on us. Maybe because we are senior citizens? We didn't order drinks or appetizers and he appeared disappointed. We ordered steaks twice baked potatoes, and salad. Everything came out slow, and we spent a lot of time chatting. After our meal was complete, we realized we were not offered the dinner rolls while everyone around us had them. When we told the server he wasn't apologetic. He offered the rolls and we said we're done eating. He insisted we take them home and gave us a bag even though we told him we didn't want them. So Today, Tuesday August 18, 2020 My lady and I decided to give Kelseys's Steak House a try. For some time we have both wanted to give their establishment a try, but something always came up, then with my health I have to watch where I go since I am a high risk to covid. So today I decided to treat us both to dinner at Kelsey's, by ordering a take out order, and then going to pick it up and bring it back home. So for dinner we ordered the following and shared it between the both of us: Appetizer: Bacon Wrapped Scallops (3) Soup: (came with out meal) Seafood Bisque 40oz Prime Rib (Medium Rare, Warm Red Center) w/ Onions and Mushrooms(Steak Topping, Addition Fee), Garlic Mashed Potatoes, Snow Crab Legs (Seafood Addon, Addition Fee). Dessert: Bluberry Mascarpone cake with strawberry syrup and whip cream. Note: I let my Lady pick what we should get, so I will have to update the name of the dessert if I am wrong on what was brought home, but I So I will start off with saying that the Bacon Wrapped Scallops were awesome, the scallops on each bite was excellent, almost as if it was melting in your mouth, the flavor of the bacon and scallops were on point. The Seafood Bisque has some great flavor, as well noticed on every bite there were bit of seafood in the soup, I will not be greedy, but almost wished there were more pieces of crab and or lobster in the bisque, but just says we should have ordered more soup, it was that good to us. As for the 40oz Prime Rib, my lady and I cut this in half and shared this steak. I have got to say that this is the first time in my life I have had a steak that almost melts in your mouth on every bite. Kelsey's knows how to make a steak. Our steak had some fat on it, but what steak does not. With our steaks we tried it with combination of the horse radish like sauce given to us and the Au Jus I want to assume the juice like ingredient was. With out steak we chose to have the Garlic Mashed Potatoes, which we felt was just right, not too strong and not too bland, but just right. We did a Seafood Add on of 1 cluster of Snow crab Legs. The Crab legs were fresh and had flavor, they came with a container of butter and lemon. The Dessert which I will have to update this review later on because we were too full to eat our dessert. We just took small spoon and sampled it and the cream I was unsure if if Whip Cream or Mascarpone, with strawberry like syrup and blueberry like cake. It had a good flavor, but like stated too full to have our dessert. Other than this, my lady sad the gentleman who took our order was very professional and helpful with placing our order. I really appreciate the awesome customer service guys. I can say at some point in our life, we definitely will be back to order another meal with Kelsey's. read more

Excellent experience. Went with family before they headed south for the winter. I would suggest reservations if you don't want to sit at the bar. The parking lot was packed a little after 5p on a Friday evening, and there were a number of people waiting for seats. The decor was what I would describe as "classy-local". There was no snooty pretense of your "downtown in Chicago,, $80 per a-la-carté" steak. It was just a great meal for a very reasonable price. If you're a glutton for fried cheese, start with the cheese triangles. They were fantastic. My steak was a PERFECT medium rare, the Kelsey's potatoes were a delight, flavorful with a pinch of spice. I'd probably pass on the asparagus in the future. It was fine if you're eating a low-salt diet, but it was a little on the un-exciting side. Just steamed asparagus. I love it grilled, sautéed, garlic-y, peppered or with lemon. It was just asparagus.
