Dr. Munoz is my hero! I was visiting Santa Barbara for a few days, and late afternoon on a Friday, a cap on my front tooth came off. I'd had it for more than 20 years, so of course, it had to come off when I was out of town. After looking up dentists who were open (with good reviews!), I called Kendall, Rohde & Associates, and was informed I could come in. Dr. Munoz could sense that certain things bothered me (e.g. the sound of some devices), so she'd suggested I put in headphones as a distraction. I am so grateful to Dr. Munoz and the team for accommodating me on such short notice and for fixing my front tooth! Regarding Dr Jeff Rohde, Dr Farkas (Surgeon )and the whole staff. I had left my regular dentist because I I knew him to be dishonest. So, I had abandoned my lifelong relationship w dentistry for a while. Then my bone density test comes back. I'm like China doll... about to break in pieces So, the first thing to go ... omg... my 2 front teeth. I'm no Youngster, but vanity is for life , it seems. A local dentist said she couldn't handle my case, So she referred me to Dr Rohdes. First thing great over there ... The whole X-Ray business . ...no miserable bite block that is too big for me. (I had asked for a child's bite block for 20 yrs... but that was ignored for 20 yrs.) So, the X-rays were taken with an instrument that by passed that whole misery of cardboard in the gums and a bite block for a bigger person. This process at Dr Rohde's office takes about 5 minutes. Done. Meeting Dr Rohde... no phoney, was enthusiastic, friendly. Reassusuring, easy on the eyes... and basically a Kindness, there, I sensed. And an autual subtle sense of humor, also. . . .not a born again Christian - with very little humanity. Those 2 front teeth were out... handled also by the (more quiet) and Expert surgeon... and then a lovely temporary bridge was put in place I think the whole delightful ordeal was done in about 2 hours. This might've been weeks elsewhere . These 2 Dentists analysed the situation throughly knowing full well that I couldn't start the Osteo injections until the gums were healed. (PS, I had to have every doctor in town give me an ok- but the final and, it seemed, the most critical was this dental healing.) So, though, this operation is known more for its Cosmetic talents, I think, and pediatrics, I was confident that the osteoporsis was understood. Btw., I'm glad it's for little kids, too. This is a rather large - but low key environment. . About 4 or 5 front desk people and very kind friendly and talented dental assistants who make the temporary bridges - and never whine- if I break them. They take as much time in there to make it look and feel right. And there is never additional charging on the credit Card. But, I don't feel that bad, because the initial cost is - not nothing ..and my insurance has never been generous. Now, . my previous dentist bought a lot a lot of Expensive Equipment, but many things , I think, were unecessary toys that the patients, unwittingly , were paying for .... Today, I met with a hygienist who was also talented, careful and bright. .. for a cleaning . He handled the Situation ... I don't know... like he'd be a good Piano Player. I was amazingly surprised that no numbing injections were needed. So, in 2 weeks the final Real Bridge goes in. And, I think this dentist will also be discussing the type of bite and appearance I d like. This should be interesting. I like going here. It's safe It's Real. We have been so disappointed in Kendall, Rohde & Associates. They conduct deceptive business practices, negligent misrepresentation, and consumer fraud. WATCH OUT! They recently billed our insurance for procedures that were not performed. Yikes! They also billed us incorrectly - things just weren't lining up with the statements we received from our insurance company. Additionally, after five years of our family of five as patients, they had all of us in for nine appointments without communicating that they had dropped their contract with our insurance company. At every appointment, the front desk confirmed our insurance and mailing address, but did not bother to disclose the termination of the contract. The procedures were repeat procedures and had previously been fully covered. Had we been informed of the termination, we would have simply requested an estimate prior to proceeding - standard practice. We requested to speak directly with Dr. Rhode and Dr. Kendall on multiple occasions. Neither returned our calls. After years as patients of the practice, we were extremely surprised to be treated with such disregard and disrespect. The lack of disclosure constitutes abject failure in ethical duty to provide transparent information that directly impacts a patient's financial responsibilities and decision-making. I'm satisfied with the clinical staff and treatment received at Kendall, Rohde & Associates. However the lack of transparency around fees, billing, and pre-authorizations from the office staff (notably Tracy) is upsetting to me. I am no fan of the insurance industry and appreciate how difficult they make life for providers and the insured. That said, I would have appreciated if this office supported pre-authorization claims so that way clients know the financial burden they might be up against. In discussions with Tracy, obtaining pre-authorization is 100% the burden of the insured, even when obtaining such pre-authorization requires specific clinical information. In my particular case, my wife needed a crown on her molar. We have coverage through Guardian for crowns so I assumed all was well and assumed that Kendall, Rohde & Associates worked with Guardian to have an understanding of coverage. It turns out that the particular crown type used (ceramic/porcelain) only is covered for certain teeth in the mouth (not molars), so this procedure was not covered as expected (by me). Tracy's position was that I needed to call my insurer to determine coverage and eligibility, articulating specific billing codes and discussing the specific teeth affected, so that I would have had the information up front. Perhaps this is my naivety in that I assumed dental offices would submit the pre-authorization (not unlike you see in other medical practices), but apparently, this is not the case. It's unfortunate this soured my experience with the office but I will be seeking alternate care and focusing on how the office is managed along with the dental care provided. read more

Absolutely HORRIBLE Experience. I have insurance through UCSB and their office assumed that I was okay to go there. Partly because they had me mixed up with another patient in the first place, and also because they didn't take the time to plug things into the computer correctly. Ended up getting at $350 bill because AFTER the appointment they decided that they didn't accept the UCSB dental insurance and also realized that I was not the same patient that they plugged in. Great! Let me pay this money because YOU SCREWED UP! I am EXTREMELY disappointed in this and don't understand how difficult it is for them to check insurance when I make an appointment. They were on the Delta Dental list and are not accepting my insurance. Now I face a financial hardship because of this. When we moved to SB - our doctors did not. We were lucky enough to time appts to when we traveled back which really delayed the inevitable. I asked around and was referred to Dr. Kendall. Cindy was able to schedule appointments quickly and fit us in. The whole process is painless b/c the paperwork is done ahead of time - and via their internet portal - which saves paper (and whomever has to read my bad handwriting). I brought the kiddies for their first dentist appointment - scared for no reason other than old wives tales, we walked in, flustered as we were late, and dreading ear piercing screams of children....but we were met with friendly staff. I mean not normal for SB friendly. They took the time to literally explain EVERYTHING - all the equipment, the furniture, the process. Gave them choices for what flavors they wanted for the polish. Explained beforehand what they were going to do, the equipment, had them touch the equipment. This put the kiddos at ease before the procedure started. I had my first appointment with Dr. Rhode yesterday and it was excellent. He was the most informative dentist I've ever been to with amazing technology to help explain exactly what was going in in my mouth. While he explained options, I never felt that he tired to up-sell me on any treatments. He answered all of my questions and never seemed rushed. My hygienist was fantastic despite my general hatred of getting my teeth cleaned. I was also impressed that there were both adults and children in the office getting treatments and I did not hear a single cry or complaint. I had been a patient of Dr Rohde for about 2 years. I had been happy with the office, even referring a friend. On Friday April 27th at 2 PM one of my crowns came out, I called the office to find that you close at 1 PM on Fridays, I thought "With 4 or 5 doctors in the office no one is there past 1 PM and not there on the weekends either? Oh well it IS urgent but not a true emergency, I will just wait until Monday morning". So Monday morning April 30th I called first thing and was told that the soonest that I could be seen by ANY doctor would be May 21st. What???? I expressed my surprise and then my concern that I have an open uncovered crown tooth and that can't possibly be okay to make me wait over 3 weeks to be seen to put it back on. I asked if another outside doctor could be recommended to me, there was no response to this. The receptionist asked if I could give her to the end of the day to see if she could work on getting me an appointment sooner. She did call at the end of the day and said I could be seen on May 16th, phew.... only 2 1/2 weeks away. You have got to be kidding! She also said I could be on a cancelation list - That is really tough for me to drop everything at the whim of whatever cancellations they get. A couple of days later I was called about a cancellation which I didn't take (that was the only offer) and other than that they were going to make me wait the entire time. In the meantime I found another dentist who got me in right away and took care of the tooth, getting me a new crown. I was so stunned that not one of the doctors could spare the time to see me, even to make a temporary solution until the proper work could be done? Not one of the doctors had time to even take a look and then send me to someone else if need be? Everyone I tell this story to is flabbergasted, as am I. HOW IS ANY OF THIS ACCEPTABLE TO THIS OFFICE? IS IT HEALTHY FOR ME TO GO MORE THAN 2 1/2 WEEKS WITH AN UNCOVERED CROWN TOOTH? I sent all of this in an email to the office on May 14 stating that this was why I was leaving their office and the office manager called me and left a VM saying that she "apologized for the hiccup" and that any x-rays that were in the office were mine to take to whatever office I was moving to. She was very indifferent. I feel the office and doctors were negligent, only caring about my health when it was convenient for them and it appears that the office is mismanaged. read more

Dr. Renata Da Fonseca is the best Paediatric Dentist ever!!! My three year old son just had his first appointment with a dentist ever. I delayed having his teeth checked for the first time thinking it was going to be a traumatic experience. I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised and very impressed with the service we received at Kendall, Rohde & Associates. Everybody at the office was extremely pleasant at all times. The receptionist (sorry I forgot her name) was very sweet; she welcomed us and made a point of making small talk with my son witch helped him feel at ease and comfortable. We were first seen by Adriana, the hygienist. She introduced my son to some of the tools she was going to use and let him touch them and explore them before she even started working on his teeth. She also explained everything she was going to do beforehand. She was extremely patient with him and made sure he was comfortable at all times. Soon after Adriana we finally met Dr. Da Fonseca, she was also extremely patient with both my son and I. She explained everything very thoroughly and answered every question. She gave me many tips on prevention and how to make sure my son's teeth continue to grow strong and healthy. I was very impressed with their service and how they made my son feel very comfortable. The whole experience was extremely pleasant. I will recommend Dr. Da Fonseca and her office to anybody that is looking for a Paediatric Dentist. read more

I don't even know where to begin. :-) Never in my life have I ever had a dentist like Dr. Jeff Rohde (and Associates). Aside from the obvious fact that he is an outstanding, state-of-the-art dentist and clearly cares, he has managed to put together an entire team of genuinely lovely people who support all of that. The "and Associates" is a very important part of any medical office and Dr Rohde clearly gets that. I have only started going since last summer and have met 7 or 8 different people on his support team, ALL of whom I would be happy to run into at a party. They are warm, engaging, funny, friendly, interesting and professional and somehow, on top of all that, their efficiency kung fu is very strong. You can tell this is a thriving practice when you come in as the phones are often ringing and appointments are being booked. But that's not off putting in the least. Both of the 2 women who work the front desks are still super warm and friendly and it's typical to be checked in within 60 seconds or less. The only reason it would ever take longer is because you might find yourself in a casual conversation with either of them like you would a neighbor over fence. I realize it's odd to rave so much about the support staff, but they truly deserve it. They always make me feel like one of their favorite people out of (I'm sure) hundreds and hundreds of happy patients. The comfy waiting room has fresh, craft coffee always brewed and if that doesn't appeal, there's a Keurig machine there with all of the flavored options. The longest I've ever spent in the waiting room (because I didn't have an appointment and they squeezed me in due to an emergency root canal) was just enough time to have a cuppa and observe these things. But to the heart of the issue: Dr. Jeff Rohde is one of the most pleasant, warm and friendly people I may have ever met in town! I know it sounds over the top to say that, but I'm sure any of his existing patients would agree. It just happens that he's a state of the art dentist who loves his work. Working with anyone in any field who loves what they do is always a treat. By "state of the art," I've seen my dental x-rays appear in (literally) 1-2 seconds on a high res. screen in front of me immediately after taking them. There are big, beautiful flat screens in every examination room. My 12 year old son has had plaque and tartar removed from his teeth with a laser. It's a painless cavity repair device and makes one feel as if the future (as seen in Star Trek) has finally arrived. As we worked to get an implant done for me, I watched 3-D modeling spring up on the screen so we could see exactly what we were doing all 360 degrees. And the fact that they can measure and create brand new porcelain caps IN-HOUSE in about an hour or so is just mind blowing. No more waiting with horrible, plastic temporaries that fall out and have to be avoided when chewing anything! It's just amazing. Dr. Rohde is truly the all-in-one, one stop shopping dentist as I was fitted for the very unobtrusive Invisalign braces that I will wear for only 5-6 months to gently adjust my teeth for the implant. The only thing I've experienced so far that he does not do in-office, is root canal work. And there is good reason to go with a specialist for that. I needed an emergency root canal yesterday, which leads to the best case scenario experience I had below. After having sensitivity to hot and cold things, I finally called Rohde's office and asked if they could squeeze me in for an emergency consult. The amazing "and Associates" got me in at around 3:30 on a Thursday and even though nothing came up on x-rays, Jeff had a very strong feeling that something might be going on underneath a cap I had on a molar. The x-rays could not see through it, but all signs pointed toward that being the source of my pain. They called Dr. Lawaty's office (I had seen her for my only root canal 9 years prior and she was amazing) and somehow got me an appointment for 5 minutes later. She's only about 6-7 blocks away and sure enough, she diagnosed that I very likely had some gnarly infection going on under an old cap and booked me for a 6:30am root canal surgery the next morning. I left her office about 5pm and decided to rush back to Dr. Rohde to see if he was still open. I was hoping he might be able to take me in as soon as the root canal was done and do the permanent crown. If he was unable to, I'd have to wear a temporary through the weekend when I was scheduled to do a couple hours of public speaking. I raced over, got there about 5:15 and realized the office was closed, but the door was still open so I stuck my head in. Dr. Rohde appeared along with one of the front desk women and they were obviously on their way out. I told them my plight and asked if I could get in right after the Friday root canal to get the permanent crown done. Unbeknownst to me, they close the office at 1pm on Friday and they read more

I found Dr. Kendall through yelp and can confirm that I had a great experience! Everyone was friendly, from the reception staff to dental technicians and Dr. Kendall. They have up-to-date technology and Dr. Kendall explained exactly what she was seeing during the teeth exam. As someone with a phobia of needles, I appreciate that they use a laser to numb the area should I ever need a filling or some other work done.
