Therefore, I discovered this hidden treasure years ago. (Before that I tried a couple of other similar venues in the city and was disappointed.) I first learned about Ethiopian food in Atlanta, GA in the early 80's while attending university. Good versions and bad versions. Since then I have experiences both in diverse places such as Boston, NYC, St.Paul (MN), Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, Oakland, Sacramento, Houston, Paris (F), Rome (I), Berlin (D), and some cities I don't remember. Lalibela in Frankfurt is one on the top 5 restaurants. The food is authentic and flavorful. Both veggie and meat dishes. (Many times only the meats are spicy and the veggies are bland.) Plus the owners are a true delight. Friendly, cheerful, they showcase their culture. We were just back yesterday with my best friend from college in Atlanta. She has been living in Hamburg for decades. I had not seen her for over 30 years. She came to Frankfurt to meet up with us while we were in Germany. I offered her several different cuisine options and she wanted Ethiopian. She loved all of it. Nostalgic flavors. Authentic smells. Plus the amazing hosts! We will always call me back.

The owner was serving us and she was one of the nicest people you could ever ask to meet. One of us has very specific dietary needs and she went out of her way to make something that fit the bill. I opted for a mixed platter that would allow me to sample different vegetarian and meaty dishes and I really enjoyed it. My favorite was the Derho though - and my son, who sampled my plate but had just ordered the Derho by itself, certainly agreed. The menu is sort of limited, where you pick a handful of items to be served on a single large plate and shared. We got 3 kinds of beef, chicken, lentils, and white cabbage. They all had a good flavor, and some were quite spicy. It was served with lots of bread on the side, which was flat, soft, yet somewhat fluffy. The way to eat this is by grabbing the food with the bread (kind of like making a little wrap). It's 18 EUR per person, which is a decent deal. I also got the non-alcoholic "momo is back" cocktail (9 EUR), which was a mix of lime juice, grenadine, peach juice, and guava juice. It was tasty and served in a nice cup with garnish on top. The staff are friendly and helpful. We were able to get a table for two with no wait on a weekday night, but I know it can be quite busy at peak times. I haven't been eating meat lately, but didn't care for chickpeas or veggie food last night, so I had a lamb vindaloo. I needed heat and something tasty. My boyfriend ordered a lamb madras. Both were very delicious! The vindaloo had some heat, but it wasn't so overpowering that it took away from the taste. The madras was just tasty too. What I was most impressed with from Little India was their service. They were efficient and made us feel like the only people in the restaurant despite there being quite a few customers. Very impressive for Germany! Our dishes were just over 11 Euros each and very affordable compared to a lot of Indian food around Frankfurt. I would love to go back here frequently, but I don't think it is possible based on its location compared to where we live. But if I am ever back in that part of town, I'd gladly stop by and eat there again!

Now four years into living into Frankfurt and on my 5th apartment I no longer live within the delivery area of this place and to be honest had forgotten about how good it was. Yet this weekend I was looking through yelp to find a place to eat after watching sport and Little India popped up. I explained to my girlfriend that this place was good for take away and we should give the restaurant a chance. Once again it didn't disappoint it fulfilled my Indian food needs perfectly (these needs are an almost daily want for Indian food). The service was wonderful and the wait staff were very attentive. The food was also brilliant just as good as when I first had it delivered to my doorstep. Just a note: the take away menu is a couple of euros cheaper than sitting in the actual restaurant.

I really liked the meat - it was not greasy at all, the spice combo they are using on it seems to be a little different from what everyone else does and it tasted great. My Döner Teller had a good ratio of meat vs fries vs salad. I definitely enjoyed my food, but have a couple of comments. They did not deliver everything with the sauce on the side which means by the time our order arrived, the fries were completely soggy. That could be improved. Also, you cannot order extra cheese or fries on their Deliveroo page which is kind of a must have for us. I am planning on getting Döner from Taxim again, but next time I will go to their restaurant to be able to compare how the food is onsite.
