We're patient so we don't mind waiting & we understand they could have had to-go orders but the quality of food we were waiting for wasn't worth the time (or money). The octopus in the takoyaki was rubbery & unpleasant to chew. I always finish my food but I had to toss those out. The push-pop sushi was new & exciting but the content was lackluster & ultimately creates a lot of unnecessary waste. The tables hadn't been cleaned nor the chairs & the walls had residual goop on them. However, I give them two stars because I could obsess over their purple sweet potato fries... Kenko used to be my go to spot when I was in college, but coming back to visit, I I didn't have as good of an experience. While the restaurant was still cute and the service was excellent, my food wasn't the best experience--the hibachi steak was great with the white sauce, but my California roll turned out to be an absolutely gross Philly roll (and the server confirmed my order too). It was fun trying to play the little 10-second game on the wall, but that was probably the highlight of my experience. Might give this place a break for a good while. read more

The presentation was beautiful. The meal had to be one of the best meals I've had since being back in Lynchburg. If you like Eel, I highly recommend trying the Unadon. Sweet and savory Eel with rice, fish eggs, avocado and cucumber. I had it with a cup of hot tea since the restaurant itself was cold, which warmed me right up. If you don't know, hot tea pairs amazingly with fatty eel. Half was enough for me to be full for the rest of the morning but I'll be enjoying my leftovers tonight! The service was awesome. I don't eat out alone often but there was no pressure here at all. The server I had was very nice and very attentive. I'm very thankful that I got to spend my Sunday Lunch here! I have never had any issues with my order until today. I picked up my online order and got home to find out all four containers of the Yum-Yum Sauce had spilled all over inside the bag. The bag was upright the entire time on the drive home. Whoever placed the food inside the bag could have done a better job of checking the tops of the sauce. This is unacceptable. read more

I ordered an entree and sushi to go. They put the shushi on top of a hot meal. The sushi was warm by the time I got home and the fish partly cooked. when I called to bring the food by in to get in replaced, I was argued with that I should have asked for the sushi to be separate. Common sense says to not put sushi on top of something hot that could be cooked. they only offered 20% off next sushi order. I will not be going back. We came in late with a big party, about an hour before closing. They were very accommodating, and we pushed together tables out front. The staff was great, as was the service. We had a lot of different items ordered within our group, and nobody was disappointed with the food they got. I ordered the steak bento box. Every part of it was amazing and it was plenty of food. The California roll was done right. Steak was cooked perfectly. Egg roll and cheese ragoons were perfect and crisp. I highly recommend this restaurant not just because of the food and service, but also because it's an amazing value for the price you pay. High quality at a low price is hard to find. read more

My wife and I recently ate at kenko and had the sesame chicken meal which was delicious but tonight we decided to order doordash from there instead of driving to dine in. The portions are very different take out ...it was easily half the amount of chicken and a ton of rice. We both were disappointed over all as it not only was smaller and just a box of rice mainly but also whoever packaged it did a poor job as the yummy sauce had opened and emptied into the bag and all over the contents. I think Kenko has done a great job at not only providing the Cornerstone area with some much needed, quality hibachi, but also providing something that no other hibachi in LYH really does: bento boxes. That's my pro-tip: if you go, grab a bento box. You get your choice of hibachi, cheese wontons, a spring roll, and sushi! It's a pretty great deal in my opinion, and you can order it to go or takeout, lunch or dinner! I think their chicken hibachi is their best offering (that I've tried so far), and I think the sushi is hit or miss. I LOVE going in and eating dinner because they really take care of you, and their presentation (esp of the bento box--hint hint, GET THE BENTO), feels more like a restaurant than their smaller interior would lead you to imagine. All in all, I love to get over here for--you guessed it--their bento box because I think it's a great value. Would be interested to try some of their curry in the future. Maybe next time! Adequate tonkatsu curry but far more rice than I would care to admit for the price I paid. The taste was good but the thing that somewhat dissapointed me was the boba selection. The menu needs to be updated because some of the things offered don't ever seem to be in stock. Not bad but not great. Good to visit if you're looking for an entertaining experience. The boba quality isn't bad by any means. Bubbles cooked well as well but some of the flavors are overwhelmingly sweet, like make your teeth hurt, inducing type II sweet. The peach wasn't bad though, strangely, although it tends to be one of those types of flavors that you'd expect to be cloyingly sweet. I was skeptical to visit after reading other post but chose to try it with hope. The place is small but looked comfortable if you were to dine in with a couple of friends. It's more of a take out location. Here is where they do well. My online order was packaged and ready for pick up when I arrived. My 1st order. Brown bagged and tight. The presentation was nice upon opening. Not a Styrofoam container but a tray neatly organizing each food separately and deep enough for an adequate amount of food. The quality of food was good. As good as the other hibachi in the area... it's hibachi not gourmet. They offer sushi but that's a test for another day. I'll need to see some samples for that. I like the value overall. Prices are good, food is good, wait time- very good, location is good, dine in to be determined. I will go back in the future. Four stars until then. read more

I came here for dinner tonight with some friends and unfortunately don't think I will be returning despite the food being decent. Our waitress was pretty good and the food was good (we all got hibachi dinners which were recommended and good) however the portion sizes were tiny and meant for a 3-yr old (this is coming from a 5'3 110 pound person). They gave a giant mountain of rice and the meat was a bit tough to cut, however flavor was on point. We were all a little disappointed the portion sizes especially it being a hibachi place and tbh my expectations were not super high being a Lynchburg native, I would try somewhere else where you will actually get your money's worth. read more

I normally love this place. The food is always excellent and they're always nice when I go in. I doordash from here several times a week and sometimes more than once per day. Never had a problem but today I asked that they include a straw for my boba tea I ordered as I didn't get one last time and was unable to drink the tapioca part which is my favorite part of the drink. They made my food incorrectly because they were so worried about proving a point about my request for a straw. They put five straws in the bag. I could be overreacting but I just feel like it was rude an unprofessional to be petty over a straw when I asked as nicely as possible. read more

This place is absolutely horrible! Last Saturday my husband and I had a taste for Japanese, but we didn't want to take our young child out due to it being cold and almost her bed told (about 7:45PM). I remembered that we had got a flyer for this place on our door in a while back, so we decided to try it. Let me just say, SAVE YOUR MONEY! Eat something you have at home or go elsewhere. I ordered hibachi chicken and steak w/ the veggies separate (I don't like them touching my food, but I like them). My husband ordered hibachi chicken. Both the chicken and steak was sooo try! No sauce, no flavor. All you could taste was salt. I had no vegetables. I couldn't eat it, even with yum yum sauce. My husband who will always eat my food when I can't or save it declined it and said he was forcing himself to eat his food. This is coming from someone that is NOT picky! We received the food almost an hour after ordering it. I will never order from here again. It's so disgusting! Yuck. read more

A good place for a bunch of people enjoying some drinks during happy hour and a plate of wings. 2. Service was excellent. 3. Price point was okay. Within the average of a typical Lomein dish. 4. And that is what i got: Lomein with beef. It is good as it is. My wife enjoyed it but it is not yakisoba. What makes a yakisoba? Thinner noodles, yakisoba seasoning - it is a very distinctive taste. I have heard of this restaurant for many people in Lynchburg. So I tried today with take out order. I ordered a steak and shrimp and a steak and chicken dinner. Guess what, the amount of food that I had for what I paid for was just crazy. I definitely understand that majority of take out foods are relatively smaller than what you eat inside of the restaurant. However, this is NOT RIGHT!!! Also, the food was really BAD. Steak is so salted and marinated by teriyaki sauce that you have to drink water and rice together to mitigate the savor. Moreover, chicken is the same thing, teriyaki marinated with a lot of soy sauce. (Probably chicken is the same chicken from Hibachi Grill on Wards Rd.) Also, rice is another disaster. Not fully mixed soy sauce and so sticky!!!! How you could this kind of rice...? I really don't understand why people rate this restaurant for 5 stars with this price. I would never visit this restaurant. EVER!!! Go to others to taste something japanese or Chinese foods. read more

Got To-Go from here for the first time today. We got the Shrimp Curry and the Chicken Curry. I asked for the Chicken curry to be spicy. It was barely spicy at all. Both entrees had a lot of rice, which was nice, but not enough sauce. The overall flavors were not very exciting compared to the Thai curry we prefer. It wasn't horrible, but wasn't great, and not worth what I paid for it. Maybe their Hibachi is better, but I won't be hurrying back. read more
